I wasn't to far off.... No bread and butter plays for Russell= another loss and a 0-3 start. Ashland made adjustments and shut down Russell for the rest of the game.

Say what you want but the proofs in the pudding and the kool aid is real sour. Russell lacks balance when it counts at least when we ran the WingT we could at least run the ball well. It doesn't sound like Maynard's offense can do anything right consistently.

Feel bad for the Russell players. I hate the current administration, but root for the kids at heart. This group is better than 0-3, the lack of performance is due to coaching not talent.

Come on boys let me have it!!!😝😝

Congratulations to Ashland on the win.

I disagree with Thin Blue Line about what is wrong with Russell. I didn't get to see this one, but I listened. Russell doesn't have the playmakers on their team like Ashland does. That's the biggest difference...not coaching. It's the Jimmys and Joes in this case, not the X's and O's.

So what was it last year and the year before when they couldn't manage to even get across the 50 against Belfry?? Russell had enough to beat Ashland.... it's 3 games in and Russell's QB already has like at least 8 interceptions... coaching must adapt to talent
#8
Ashland made adjustments.... aka COACHING.... The first quarter clearly indicated that Russell had enough to win
#9
The talent level between Ashland and Russell are very similar.. the coaching is way off.. Russell was flat out coached in this game.. the play calling for Russell was atrocious!! TJ needs a new offensive coordinator..Russell needs a leader.. they seem like they don't care

We go through this each and every week for the last 3-4 years with ThinBlueLine. The problem is you still not over when Russell decided to go in another direction for the Head Coaching position. Don't get me wrong I was a Freshman when Coach McGlone won his 1st State Title in 1978 over Woodford County 17-7 behind Brent Muncy at QB. Coach McGlone did a lot at Russell building the program where it is today. The only problem was the 6-7 years he was 35-25 in Regular Season and 5-6 in the Playoffs and lost to Belfry 3 times in those last 6 years. When Russell decided to move in another direction in 2014 that is when the Passing game was starting to be huge in HS Football just like College Football. Coach McGlone just didn't want to move in that direction and that is why each year he was either 5-5 or 6-4 in the last 6 years and lost 6 games in playoffs and to Belfry 3 times. I mean come on ThinBlueLine Coach McGlone had been at Russell nearing 40 years and he had just turned 75. I just believe the Administration new with the move and direction Raceland was heading that they had 2 or 3 Coaches going to move on to the other bigger High Schools and that was TJ Maynard, Scott Grizzle, and now head coach Michael Salmons. I believe getting Coach Maynard was huge for Russell and they are doing fine at Russell in his 3 full seasons. In his 3 seasons Coach Maynard in the Regular Season is 24-6 and 5-3 in the Playoffs. Coach Maynard has lost to Belfry 3 times but I believe these last 3 season that Belfry could beat some College Teams with there Depth and Talent on both Offense and Defense. This season 2017-2018 Russell has started out slow and we should have beaten Greenup at home but it was in OT and Ironton on the Road is Ironton and tonight's game was 10-7 at half with Ashland. The problem is we lose the best playmaker at WR on offense and best playmaker at 'D' at Defensive End in Ryan Stump. That really hurts to start the season plus Austin Church at QB was out all Summer and Pre-Season with Shoulder injury and didn't even practice with the team during Pre-Season and Scrimmage games. Church first action was vs. Greenup at home so he is rusty and lost his playmaker in Stump at WR. I know you can say well that is 2 players but when you lose best playmaker on both sides of the ball in a player like Stump and Church out at QB for all Pre-Season and Scrimmages that really hurts to start the season. Boyd County is next and we could easily go 5-0 in the conference and win at home in our last game to go 7-3 or 6-4 in regular season. My problem is that when you reply to any Russell post you have to go on your vent about Coach Maynard and you thinking that Coach McGlone should still be there at almost 80. He was there near 40 years and that is great in High School sports. I just believe in last 6 years going 35-25 in regular season and 5-6 in playoffs and he had lost 3 times to Belfry too that Russell admin. believed it was time for a change at Russell. I do believe that Maynard has done an outstanding job and they are extremely young this year and will be back to finish this year and for many years to come with Coach Maynard leading Russell Football.

David 5164 when you don't play seniors on senior night I won't support you nor will I ever quit bringing it up... I was a supporter of the decision to hire Maynard not the decision to fire Ivan.

As a disciple Ivan yourself you realize that this never occurred under him. I view it as classless and I don't care how much you all don't like the truth suxs!!!

I'll go as far to say Russell under Maynard's fancy pansy SOFT spread offense will NEVER EVER beat Belfry. Ivan had between 8-10 wins vs the pirates, he won't get any.

When leaves fall off the trees the air gets cold and that ball gets heavy you better be able to knock people backwards and be balanced. Russell is soft. Maynard's Ultra Soft Cotton Devils.

Weak district. And they won't beat Raceland. Facts are Facts. 6-4 best bet. If they beat everyone in the district.

ThinBlueLine - I am a Huge Coach McGlone fan and what he did for Russell Football. I just believe that he was nearing retirement. He was close to 40 years of coaching and Russell was trying to make a change that would benefit the football team for the future. Coach McGlone was nearing 80 and 40 years of coaching and he knew he had only 1 or 2 more years left in coaching. Russell knew Raceland had 3 or 4 coaches that was ready to take over as head coaching in Kentucky high school football and they wanted to grab Coach Maynard before another school grabbed him. I believe it was an outstanding move and we will see in years to come that it will be a huge move that we got Coach Maynard to Russell. Give him a chance since it has only been 3 years and this will is starting his 4th season at Russell. If you look at Belfry since 2002 they are 175-28 .862 winning percent and Belfry is 6-5 in State Championship Games. That is Belfry that has went to the State Championship game 11 times in 15years and going 6-5. That is 6 State Championships since 2002. What this adds up to is not many teams beating Belfry over last 15 years no matter who the Head Coach is at Russell High School!
