Russell was led in scoring by Gill with 18, VanHoose had 14, Sizemore chipped in with 9 and Blair with 6. Elliott's high scorer was Ferguson with 19, Weddington had 15, both Faulkner twins had 5 points each. The game was tied only once at 2-2 and Russell went ahead to stay. Thanks for the stats Yellow Snow! Looks like Scott Gill came up with another strong performance for Russell, he's played extremely well as of late. Also, Vanhoose and Blair for Russell both fouled out. I believe Gill and another Russell player had four fouls near the end as well.
Russell controlled the game almost the entire way. It was tied at 2-2 early but Russell took over from there and built a 16 point halftime lead. Elliott County threatened several times, but for the Lions it was too little, too late. But I tip my hat to this young Elliott squad, they played hard and didn't give up when Russell made big plays.
Congrats to the Russell Red Devils on winning their first 16th region title since 1972. This team played with a lot of heart throughout the tournament. Russell senior Milan Maddox wrote an inspiring letter to the team and I think that had a positive impact on the way Russell played. Once again congrats to Russell and good luck at Rupp! I'm rooting for you all the way!

Amazing that the freshman from EC was named MVP from the losing team and he only had 19 points, he must be an AWESOME player cant wait to catch him next year. Keep your head up young man sounds like you will be one of the best from the area.

I should also add that Russell is the sixth team to win the 16th region title since 2000. Boyd won it in 2000, Ashland won it in 2001 and 2002, Rose Hill Christian won in 2003, Morgan County won in 2004, Rowan County in 2005, and Russell in 2006. In the 1990s, Ashland, Boyd County, and Greenup county were the only teams to claim a regional title. That shows how balanced this region has been in recent years.
