GRC was a team that Mullins said that Dunbar could defeat.
How does the Dunbar defense win the turnover battle 3 to 0 over GRC and yet the offense fails to produce more than 3 net yards in the entire game?

A picture from the Winchester Sun is worth a thousand words, but I will limit them to less than 40.
...Mullins with his hands on his hips - unprepared for the next play as his player is on the turf at midfield.

Credit GRC's staff and players their defense was outstanding. Coach Lucas and his staff are doing a great job!
They won the game and deserved to do so. There is no shame in losing to a good staff and team like GRC. Coach Lucas has a college National Title ring for a reason.
Do we wish things would have been different sure. We are putting in work and will continue to do so. All we can do is keep digging. What choice is there?
As I said earlier we lost our starting QB in late July and several other players we were depending on and invested in because they moved.
Our staff is working hard to find the right mix. It won't be an overnight fix. We have a long way to go!
Outside observers don't always see or know the behind the scenes challenges. It will be fine, high school football is not life or death.
There are more pressing issues in the world than the struggles of a high school football program trying to rebuild. People have to keep high school sports in it's proper perspective.
God Bless!

I believe this was on a third down so the next play was a punt I believe. Please pray for the young man (Dunbar) in this picture. He is a fantastic person and was injured in this game and will not be able to play Friday night - great Christian young man!
The young man (GRC) making the tackle in the picture played a heck of a football game!
Best wishes to GRC the rest of the year!

Cross Movement, if you are who I believe that you are, then you know that I have firsthand knowledge of the ongoing problems within the Dunbar football program.
Best of luck to the players, but this program will go nowhere as long as Mullins remains in charge.

Your not aware of the player injuries and player adjustments we have recently had to make. Those are the challenges behind the scenes I was referring too.
Honestly, this has been a fun group to coach. The kids are working hard and their effort is good. We knew it would be a tough year.
We are focusing on the process and not allowing ourselves to get discouraged.
We are staying positive!
Heck, we get paid nothing, hold full-time jobs- (in Coach Mullins case a full load of Calculus classes,) we have families to raise, bills to pay, and young men to mentor through football. Coaching is part of our life, but not our whole life!
A high school football coaches self worth should never be determined solely by whether or not they can get 14-18 year olds to win enough games but also by the relationships they build.
I saw several former players and former colleagues from Green Up Co. come see Coach Mullins and thank him for the impact he had on them over the summer.
I witnessed first hand one of his players from last year who moved out of state text him before the Mercer Co. scrimmage telling him good luck and that he loved him! Over the summer I saw numerous players from last year hanging around the program over the summer. This is a sign of relationship building.
Building relationships is the foundation of a program and it takes time. Brick by brick.
So the key is staying positive, focusing on the process and keep working to find the answers!
It's not all on Coach Mullins it's on every coach, adult and player that is part of our football family to get this ship turned around!
God Bless!

Being a former military man yourself, you should understand the need for leadership to get the job done before being loved by his men.
I am well aware of the admiration that many of his former players have for him; however, that by itself does not put checkmarks in the win column.
Once again, you can put frosting on the cake; however, the proof is in the pudding.
15 wins in 6+ seasons.
Yikes!

6 coaches have come and gone since the last winning season at Dunbar in 2005. That's 12 years since Dunbar has had a winning season, heck even a guy with State Championship rings couldn't have a winning season there. Maybe, just maybe it has to do with more than coaching. Hard to turn that kind of mentality around in just 1 season, not to mention the new school pulling several kids. If it's bothering you that bad go have a meeting with him and an administrator and line out exactly whats wrong and how to fix it. Please make sure you take that picture in with you, then explain the correct posture he should have so that everyone in the stands knows he is thinking about the next play while the previous play is still going. If you are a previous coach or wish to be one I hope that you have taken extra precautions to remain anonymous because it may be difficult for you to find a coaching job after these post.

There is nothing wrong with Coach Mullins or PLD's players. It's just that the emphasis is not football with Dunbar. They have great administration and sport staff. The concentration right now at that school is Boy/ Girl's soccer, state and national level cheerleaders, volley ball and of course marching band. And recently Boy's state basketball championship.

not trying to scare you, I felt like it's more common sense. In any position in the world you will have a tough time getting hired somewhere if you are bashing your previous employer out in the community. I'm not saying Coach Mullins is the best coach in the world or that his record doesn't reflect directly upon his coaching abilities, I'm just saying that your complaints will get further if you direct them to him, or the administration. You are obviously very passionate about the Dunbar program which I can admire, however things like this often have negative impacts when players should be trying to gel together and instead people from their community are telling them their coach can't get the job done. By the way posting a picture of a coach in the background with his hands on his hips and saying that he isn't preparing himself for the next play is not posting facts, that was petty. I guess Coach Saban doesn't plan for the next play either.

You will have to do better than that picture because there is no context about what is happening on the field at that moment in time.
Obviously, most of you have never been under the gun to react to a play and make correct substitutions while taking all of about 5 to 10 seconds to get the next play onto the field through signals or a player.

The fact remains:
15 wins in 6+ seasons as a head coach.
Cannot deny that.

Dude, stop.... Just stop. This assumption not being under the gun in a critical situation comment.... STOP cause most of us here played or have coached in the past. I know Iam4thecats have coached. several years. Whatever your personal vendetta with coach Mullins is your business, but don't bash the dude on here.

What does everyone think the final score of Dunbar at Tates Creek will be tonight?
09-09-2017, 01:43 PM
Tates Creek 37, Paul Dunbar 0: Teontè White celebrated his birthday in a big way on Friday night, rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns in Tates Creekâs shutout of visiting Dunbar.
The Commodores (3-1) racked up 220 of their 287 yards on the ground.
White, who also intercepted a pass, had short TD runs in the first and second quarters, then broke loose for a 23-yard score in the final minute.
It was the second shutout of the season for Tates Creekâs defense, led by Cam Stewartâs 9 1/2 tackles. The Commodores defeated Henry Clay 48-0 in the season opener.

If you give this guy team he will turn it around. I tell you what doesn't help him do that: Getting on here and whining about it on the internet. If you have a real issue with the way he is running the program then go talk to him man to man.
I witnessed him turn around Greenup County from what was almost a dead program to what will now be a playoff favorite every year, that was his foundation that led to last seasons success at Greenup.
He isn't the only coach that hasn't had immediate success at PLD, maybe it's not the coach? If you're a fan of this school you don't deserve to have a good HC or football program like he will develop if you won't give the man time to do it.

Mullins won 12 games in 5 seasons at Greenup County.
That is not turning a program around. That is similar to removing a patient from an AED and placing the patient into critical status in the ICU.

Its easy to look at the win loss record and say that no progress was made, but if you would've seen the product on the field when he got it compared to the product on the field when he left Greenup.. You'd definitely see progress. That's why he got hired to take the PLD job.

Obviously, you do not know my background with regards to Mullins.....
You and others continue to put frosting on the cake when the proof is in the pudding.
You say that he turned a program around. That is incorrect.
From 2011-2015, Mullins never defeated any of his main 3 opponents at Greenup County:
Raceland
Russell
Ashland
However, his predecessor, Mike Copley, defeated Raceland each time and Russell once in only 2 seasons as the head coach in 2009 and 2010.
Mullins did worse than Copley and had 5 seasons compared to Copley's 2 seasons.
Cannot attribute the "turned a program around" moniker to Mullins when he was 0-15 in his 3 biggest games from 2011-2015.
09-17-2017, 06:57 PM
Mullins is now 3-12 at Dunbar.
