IMO playing games 1st week of August and finishing regular season in sept is crazy. I think they should bump everything 3-4 weeks forward!!
#3
Then we would run into difficulties securing fields to play on as high schools would be finishing up/starting playoffs at same time and they want their fields.
#4
Bump

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully those that didn't attend won't be doing their annual complaining Confusednicker:

I am curious about one thing. And that is why the khsaa was ever given any say over anything to do with middle school sports.
I remember this being talked about, but IMO, they screw up enough with high school teams.
Exactly what powers do they have with middle school?

The short version is that far too many schools were not doing things properly and self policing themselves to do things properly. KYMSFA realized early one that yes some schools (its members) wanted to do things properly, but there was still far too many that didnt. (thats just for football, in being on the taskforce in 2012 we found at how much worse other sports really were.)

In short they only way to get some basic guidelines, safety standards across the state was to get the the umbrella that all the schools fall under to oversee that, Kentucky Board of Education, (which defers its athletic management to the KHSAA, hence their involvement.)

I forgot to answer this part, Full authority, if they choose to use it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure that had been mentioned in here before but I just didn't see it.
I can see this as good in a lot of ways, but wish there was a separate entity from the khsaa that dealt specifically with middle school sports.

Wont happen unless the legislature funds it, KBE wont let that happen so this is what we get.

It was. Up to three complaints now.
#19
Guess more people should have came to clinic and then they'd know more. Now they have to wait.

I wish it was over stuff we went over at the clinic. Its always random things.

1. Why do we have tryouts so late for FBU when other teams are having their tryouts now.

2. Can 5th graders play on a MS team, and if so can a school pick and choose which ones can and can not.

Heard that there is going to be a top ten poll with a corporate sponsor this season. Is that the semi-big news you alluded to a few days ago?

Nope, that has nothing to do with the KYMSFA. just some person with a blog doing it from what I hear.

State title prediction across all levels...someone from the mountains wins at least one of the divisions!!

Preseason polls are great bulletin board material!!
#24
Couldn't agree more. Season is over before I'm even in football mode.

I agree. I think it would help with numbers too.
If middle schools didn't start practice until Aug 1st then there'd be a lot more kids out
#27
But then we'd run into difficulty getting sites for games and would run into high school playoffs.

Fayette County Schools start practice the last week of July. Their championship games are the week before Thanksgiving.

Disagree numbers wouldn't change much.

I can count on my hand how many kids that start in August and stick with it.
