New Summer Transfers
#61
RunItUpTheGut Wrote:Just curious, did owsley play summer ball?

I don't think they had anything scheduled when Macie joined the SL team. After she was playing with them I believe the Owls freshmen and sophomores played 3 or 4 games against some schools in the area. This is what I was told when I asked one of the girl's mom's when I saw her at the grocery store. She said they played a few games and sounded disappointed that they didnt play more.

They came and played at Shelby Valley

I think they played at Leslie County too.

Olred Wrote:Not a tick off this old dog but, if she enrolled the coach can not keep her from playing. I believe the summer rules for khsaa is that you can not turn any enrolled students away. You can also not "legally" take role or use that against a player if they do not play. He could have dressed her but not played her but if I was guessing the coach was playing her in HOPES of her staying. She is a special player who will be playing college somewhere a year for now. We can argue what is ethical or right here all day long but it is like playing the lottery. The coach risked some development time for kids who had been subs for a chance at a really good player. IF she would have stayed South would have been in my opinion (no one get upset) a slight favorite to win the region. No not preseason number 1 but by the end of the year I think so. Now with what they have they are still very good but I believe they are at least second and more like third to me. They will miss Davis and Reynolds who graduated. I know I hear they are going to be one more short but who knows that could just be summer rumors probably. This does happen a lot on the boys side but it usually plays out that they stay so no one thinks twice about it. I won't say it's right but I would say most coaches would lay out the red carpet and pray that she stays. Everyone knows I'm not a South fan so I'm not defending anything and like proudpanther said about his team I will say they will still beat Corbin this year too so if she stayed or left we won't be winning the district this year either way.

Ok i couldn't stay away,:blabbermo:blabbermo

I think what was risked was loyalty. to his current players. Who had been there for years. If it was as has been suggested, that everyone knew it was just for the summer. Just seems like dumping your girl friend when a better looking girl winks at you. She was just flirting and ends up going home with her current boyfriend. Does your old girl friend take you back? Does she trust you again? We'll see. And as for those girls who their time wasn't affected, if he could recruit over you, bring in a better handler, defender, shooter - would he push you to the side? this isn't pro's or college or even AAU. And whether most coaches would have done the same thing really doesn't change whether it was the right thing or not.........................

Sad to say but loyalty is long gone in most cases and to be honest if you don't win even in high school you won't have a coaching job to worry about. I agree with everything you said and wish things where how they were a LONG time ago when playing for YOUR school and community meant something. Trust me when I say that is not toward anyone today as the time and culture has changed and things will never go back to the smaller schools with community pride. I would say most of the better players at south though where begging her to come. Depth will hurt South this year and probably will get worse every year from here on out. Well unless they have a few move in and actually stay.

I will say one more thing that I hope no one takes offense with... I read an article about a month or two ago about transferring in high school now starting to affect (not eliminate) kids recruiting. With the quote "transfer epidemic" in college, major d1 college coaches are worried about kids who look to transfer just for greener pastures. They know most freshmen will struggle for them and then look to transfer which is happening more and more.
#67
olred - loyalty is only a thing of the past, if we make it so. It takes only a few people to start doing the right thing that are willing to risk themselves. Like I said, just because others do it, doesn't mean it's the thing to do.
#68
Loyalty is not a thing of the past. The game has just changed. Not the high school game but the way kids are recruited. Very few college coaches ever see a high school game. It's all aau and I ain't talking daddy ball aau. It's the top level. 100 plus coaches will b at the top tournys. They can see many kids at one stop. High school has become like I said many times not important as far as recruiting. Loyalty to a high school team is still there just not for the elite kids. They don't even have a need to play high school ball. Why would a family or kid care about a high school game when no college recruiters are there? They can go to one aau game and be seen by over 100 coaches. For d2 or 3 kids or naia high school can help but even those kids get seen in the summer. I still predict ur top kids soon will not even play high school No need.

Sad but true Playmaker, a lot may not agree with what Playmaker is saying but it is going to happen. It is starting to happen in girls bball also. In fact big events in Louisville and Chicago going on now.
#70
Macie is at an event in Louisville this weekend with her Kentucky Premeir team. There's over 600 coaches signed in to observe the weekend activities.
#71
Playmaker you are 100% correct but AAU is slowly killing the game as far as development and teaching the game both offensively and defensively. AAU is a great thing for kids and I am all for it but they still have to be taught and developed into players in my opinion.

I noticed Macie plays for a 16u team. I figured being a senior she would play 17u like Blair Green. Macie team is not on the schedule in chicago this week for the national championships of EYBL. Is she on a different circuit?

She's not on the EYBL team. According to the guy who runs Kentucky Premeir AAU she's on a team who's players are all designated as D-1 prospects. I'm not sure who is on it. I believe a big girl from Harlan County is one of her teammates.
Her team has a series of games scheduled for Westfield, Indiana and Lexington later this month.

I'd like to add to my above post that I wish she were on the EYBL team but she's not. I would have to think she was close, though, being on the next team down from that one, which is also D-1 potential. The 2018 class has a lot of good players across the state. And I may be wrong but I think a player or two on the EYBL team are from out of state.
However, I haven't seen any of the games so I'm not sure. I'm going to try to make it to Lexington to watch them later this month.

I know more about the boys side. Boys have 17u, 16u and 15u. From what I am understanding is premier has no 17u but a bunch of 16u, then 15u, 14u etc. I dont understand why they dont call the sr to be 17u
#76
2018 class in Kentucky is the best the state has ever seen! Many D1 kids and a bunch that will play college basketball!
#77
Kentucky is producing big time D1 talent.

She probably should have been on the EYBL team but aau is so political and very bad basketball so don't worry about her because her talent will win out. She is a great player
#79
From my experience with girls sports. This will come back to bite the coach. It may have been an 8th grader who's mommy thought she should have got some playing this summer, or a sophomore or Junior who thought this was going to be the year they was going to get a lot of playing time. But you can bet there some parent that is pissed over this and will be until there kid graduates.

Casey County added 2 player and Mercer County added 1 this summer
#81
With schools starting back who are the transfers in the 15th and 14th region.

If people dont know who the best player is in a district how would you know who the best player was in several states? Just a good common sense observation about commenting about something when you dont know who the players even are, much less talent.

You make very little sense lol
#84
No I make perfect sense. I am saying if someone is not capable of telling me who the best player in a district is then how can they tell me or be able to evaluate a player based on a national stage?

You are correct, it's the rest of the world

Now that makes no sense.......Please explain for the rest of the world.

I'm guessing you are about 11 or 12 so I'm done with you lol

Close, but please explain it for todays youth. And elders.

Exactly what I'm talking about lol

AAU is a mess. I'm not sure how any college coaches get anything out of it. Harlan's girl is d1 but I really disagree that all KY Premier girls are all D1 bound. It's about which parents can pay it out..
