to be honest, coaches didn't have to discipline us. We usually took care of that on our own, if someone was acting a fool they would be approached by a group of us and we handled it. If they did have to discipline them, back then they were allowed to run them until they couldn't walk. If you did that to a kid today you'd be fired and sued. I wasn't trying to single M'boro out, that's just how society is now. I can't call a parent I barely know because their kid is out acting a fool, I would get blasted on social media for not minding my own business and somehow their feelings will get hurt and say I called them horrible parents. We often hold coaches and the school up to a certain standard when it comes to discipline because that is what we were used to when it was allowed. Now unless a kid is caught with alcohol in his hand or drugs in his pocket you can't do anything and if you do the parents will sue for defamation of character and be on Good Morning America, and they will win because the kid in the picture was "just holding it for a friend and not drinking it."

And there you have my problem with this administration, they were. Listen say whatever you want to. I am not saying that all schools don't have these problems, but the successful ones do not put up with it on their athletic teams on a regular basis and play them every Friday night.

I meant to add that if a coach were to sit a kid out for this, there would be nice little group of parents who would rally together on message boards and social media to research how it was illegal. Then present it to the board and have the coach fired for disciplining their kid, fast forward 3 years when the kid is arrested on possession charges and the parents then blame the school system for letting their kid fall through the cracks.

We all do have crazy parents, however do you think players can do whatever they want and play. I respectfully disagree with that philosophy.
04-21-2017, 04:25 PM
I don't think players should be allowed to do whatever they please. However, I have read too many articles and seen too many news stories of coaches getting fired for disciplining kids without having a smoking gun. My philosophy would be if kids do things like that then I would have practice as early as possible and we would get out all those impurities through puking and sweating and hopefully they feel absolutely miserable, but then I'd be on the news, fired, and in court for mistreating little Johnny. I have witnessed a foster kid fail a drug test at school, get kicked off a team, foster parents take them home (probably got a cleansing kit on the way) and come back in the next day with a passed drug test from the agency. The school was forced to let the kid back on the team because they said the school drug test was faulty. Until we change as a society and not cater to people who have their feelings hurt, this will be the norm, kids can do no wrong it will be some other persons fault. I want things to be the same way you do, but I also know what would happen.

I got out of coaching at just the right time!! LOL I had the BEST parents in the world. When I disciplined, most of the kids would beg me not to tell their parents.
Nowadays the entitlement attitude flows to the kids. It's a shame.

Why so much ink on team that plays on the level of Jenkins , Phelps and Berea?

Because Middlesboro was once one of the winningest programs in the state, and good or bad, still has a big following.

Many posters look at what I put on here as hating on the program. I graduated from here and care deeply for this program. When a tradition rich program such as ours has been dismantled by a group of people that just want to take care of themselves, that is why I speak out. Not only here but in our community as well. This school and program needs a change , these folks can not do the job of coaching or leading our system. Why so much ink, I want to return to something we can say that is Middlesboro Football and School system we all know and love. What you are seeing here is the fall of a very tradition rich program. It deserves the INK as you say.

Tough times in Jacket land. No where to go but up. That may take a while though.

Old saying, You reap what you sow. What I gather is most in that community are satisfied with what is going on. Even a few on this board.

That is right and the ones that are satisfied are the ones getting something in return or the relative has been hired or promised, or family occupying the position. This program and school has been bought and sold by the good ole boy system. That is why some are satisfied.

Sadly we had great coaches but we managed to run them off. Now they are at another school winning and building a program. They (Frazier and Chappell) understood they way you build a program is not to recruit but to build from within by building fine men first and good football would follow. I'm afraid the Jackets are in a death spiral and will lose all the quality teachers and coaches that are still at the school.

Any bright spots? Be nice for them to at least be competitive. Our district will be very good again this year but Yellow Jackets are falling farther and farther behind.

The bad thing about Middlesboro is the coach is telling these kids they can win 6 or 7 games. Its gonna be a repeat of last 2 years. Dead period may put the final knife in this team if some players don't give up the party life.
06-11-2017, 06:37 AM
Sounds like the bad has started already for Players
06-11-2017, 02:28 PM
Yes it has, something like this has happened every year. Coaches still play them and parents and guardians just buy them out of trouble and the teams suffers. I could take below .500 if we had any discipline on this team. Our administration and coaches are clueless as to how to handle discipline. To allow these kids to continue to play after this type behavior is beyond me. IDK anymore, Martin and Massengill please wake up when it comes to discipline, sometimes you just have to let a few go, for the teams sake and to set the standard . One would think they would know that. At this point I think they are scared. 1) of the kids parents and guardians. 2) of the kids transferring to Bell. If we want to beat Bell that would be the best thing. So tired of this broken record with these guys. Administration, Coaches and behavior.

When coaches are scared to parents it is time to resign and let somebody else have the con. (no pun intended, only a star trek reference) Sometimes it can be addition by subtraction when you get rid of your problems, you give a kid a chance and he may step up. And what of the parents with kids playing behind the one or two who can not be disciplined? I would be mad as a hatter.

Boy do I have some stories about these parents.

Middlesboro is ruled by Martin. He has no discipline, he leads with fear of jobs and has no accountability to any discipline in schools or on sports team. He just tells community it is the principal and coaches call. Then he tells principal and football coach what to do. Sad situation all the way around. As long as a weak principal and coach are in place, a dictator like Martin will run this program, this is the behavior we can expect.
06-13-2017, 06:41 AM
Don't think this is on Martin. This one falls right on the Head Coach. 2nd arrest in 3 years time for the parents to wake up! Run with the dogs you get fleas. 2-9 year again.

I agree, but when the super tells you to keep him, he can help you with athleticism. Double edge sword. In the end, you are right at some point Coach has to say, I am in charge. This is what you get when your super thinks he is the coach.

massengil Still trying to Scramble for Coaches . hard situation for a coach when admin Don't support you . I ve been There.
06-15-2017, 11:45 AM
I have never seen so many jobs every year in such a small system in my time in this business. Every year they post at least 10 jobs or more. Something just is not right with that. Coach Massengill can not get or keep a coach that comes in. More turnover in that system than anywhere. That equates to just one thing, they have problems that are not being solved.
06-15-2017, 10:01 PM
Bob is the best principal in that system. Sounds like Pride 101 is using a high turnover of teachers as a excuse. Massengill has zero discipline has zero morals zero interest of this kids best interest or he would of resigned this past year. Football needs a complete overhaul start from the ground up!
06-15-2017, 11:10 PM
Truthhurts take yourself on some where! The kids and town have enough problems without you running that sucker! Ive got a pocket of 100s says you never even played football or anything for that matter! Keep your hometown dreams up and things you wish that would come to town you cant afford! Hollar at your boy if you would like to do lunch and discuss football!!!
