If JC wins, I think this will be the third time in 4 years that Coach Hall has a 30 win season! Very difficult for the schedule that he and the Eagles have played the last several years! Go Eagles!!!

Paintsville's last trip to the State Baseball tournament was in 1990.... and it ended very well for the Tigers.

Paintsville beat PRP 5-0 and Tates Creek 10-4 to win the 1990 State Championship.

From 1976 through 2002 only Four teams made it to the recognized state tournament. Regional champions played each other in State Sectionals. A team could have won a regional championship, but not have made it to the actual state tournament.

From 2003 through 2009, Eight teams made it to the recognized state tournament. State sectionals were still used, but only one round was played.

From 2009 to Present, all Sixteen regional winners advance to the state tournament.

That's when they went to a Semi-State format...It was NOT the same format as the old sectional format. It became a best 2 out of 3 process between two regional winners.. The winner then advancing to the state tournament which was comprised of 8 teams....In this area, it was comprised with teams from the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th regions, and it was rotated yearly determining which region was paired against the other out of the 4 regions afore mentioned..

I think JC wins this one. I hate predicting scores, but I'll go with 8-2. My thoughts are that JC is just a different animal than the rest of the 15th region RIGHT NOW. I think Paintsville and LC are building towards that with their crop of young players, but right now JC has the talent and the experience. When they have the arms they do, the chances of scoring a bunch of runs are not likely, so you must try to win a game 2-1 or 3-2.....and with high school kids, especially young players, that's difficult to do with all the pressure.

Paintsville impressed me the other night sitting in the stands watching them play LC. They have a nice team. Their two middle infielders, I feel, saved them several times with clutch plays. They didn't swing it well, I think the Daniels kid had 4 of the 6 hits. But LC's pitchers are pretty good, too.

I think next year JC, Paintsville, and LC will be back in the region and TWO of them are destined to meet each other again. Hopefully in a semi-final game, and finals....and not in the first round like this year.

Good luck to both squads tonight.

You also have to remember that until Lawrence went to the 60th a couple of years ago, that wouldn't have had the chance to even happen..One of the 3 would have stayed home.

That's why when a lot of people (and I don't mean 57th people) spoke about the ridiculousness of Lawrence moving to the 60th I didn't see it that way. I saw it as improving the regional tourney instantly! By having LC, JC, and Paintsville in the region you can guarantee the best field of teams will be in the tourney.

Personally, I loved that idea that was floating around about a super regional tournament replacing the current format. I think some sort of a double-elimination style regional, like what they do at the collegiate level, would be awesome! But we know that this won't ever happen....makes too much sense.
#17
I've thought of the super regional format also, which it could be the previous section format. Regions 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16 like it was up through 2003. Could be double elimination over a 3 day period. Winners from each section meet up and play a double elimination final 4 format.

B. Kelly, T. Meade and J. Patton should be available.
My guess is that Kelly will get the start, but that is only my speculation.
