Paintsville center Chelsee Jarrell has been awarded the 15th Region Player of the Year. Although her high school career didn't end the way she and all the Paintsville Lady Tiger fans had hoped it would end, she definately earned it. I knew it would come down to her and Magoffin County's Calloray Howard, really the only two Seniors that could get the award.
Congrats Chelsee on the award and a great high school career.

Congrats Chelsee!!!
Coach Baldwin told me about it yesterday, while I was at PHS!!!
I heard later that Baldwin was named Coach of the year as well!!! He failed to mention that!

This thread was made to congratulate Chelsee, not bash her. I'm sorry Calloray didn't get it, I wish they could have been Co-Players of the Year cause they both deserved it. What you STILL fail to realize is that Calloray didn't face the same kind of defenses Chelsee did. She was double and triple teamed ALL year long and still managed 10+ ppg and 8+ rpg.

Seems like a little of an odd pick for player of the year considering Paintsville didn't win their district or even go to the regional tournament, but congrats to chelsea

I don't think that matters too much, Kelly Jo Moore won it her Senior year and I don't think Sheldon Clark made it out of the district that year, I may be wrong about that but I don't think they did.

Congrats to Chelsee.
I do disagree with the call, if it is true, that coach Baldwin gets coach of the year. The coach of the year should at least go to a coach that gets his/her team out of district.

Agree. If Paintsville wouldn't have made it to the semi's of the All "A" State then he probably wouldn't have got the award. My vote for Coach of the Year would have went to Phillip Wireman, JMO though.

Wasn't this voted on by the coaches?
She was also named to the KABC East/West all stars, which gives her an automatic invite to try out for the Kentucky All-Stars to play against Indiana.
Congrats Chel

Also congrats to Calloray for being the #2 choice. Looks like they will get to play together in the Gatorrade all stars as well as the East/West all star game.

Congratulations to Chelsea but I must comment that Calloray has scored over 1,500 pts. in her career and is averaging 13.5 pts. per game along with 11 rebounds- I don't think there is another senior in the region with those type numbers.

I know this thread is about Chelsea but..
According to KHSAA Website-East Ridges Courtney Conley-averaging 14.75 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game.

It is true that Coach Baldwin was awarded with coach of the year. And just because our Lady Tigers didn't get out of the district doesn't play any part in the award. Coach Baldwin is a terrific coach. And he sure did DESERVE to be coach of the year. Congradulations to Chel and Coach.

But i dont think the coach award was right if true. It should have been atleast Jc's coach.

Ok, first of all i'm gonna be nice & congratulate chelsea on her award, but IMO, i hafta strongly disagree with this! i don't mean 2 trash her or anything but her team didn't even get out of the 1st round of districts and plus when ever p-ville would play MC, she would not even show an ounce of effort and would always give up and quit! she should've set a better example 4 her team as a senior and should not have become lazy which means she just left her teammates hung out 2 dry! and +, calloray has been double and tripled-teamed many, many of times, supposedly just like jarrell has been and 1 last thing, Baldwin would not have been my choice 4 the Coach's award because when we played them at home, we held the ball in the 3rd quarter for like approx. 4 min. and any smart coach would've done something about it, especially if his team was losing! But, i will stick with my opinions of CALLORAY HOWARD and PUP MILLER!

There is no way in the world Paintsville's coach should of got coach of the year. It should of went to the coach at Magoffin or Belfry. Heck if he got coach of the year, then they are any number of coaches who should of been in line for this award. You could even throw Hopkins a first year coach from Allen Central in there she got her team to the Regional Tournament at least. It is a joke that he got coach of the year and everyone knows it except Paintsville fans. He shouldn't even get coach of the year in his own district let alone region.

I am a Paintsville fan and I don't think Baldwin should have gotten the award. One thing is for sure Pup shouldn't have, Magoffin was ranked #1 ALL year long and was predicted to win it all, coach of the year never goes to a coach like that. Wireman on the other hand, YES, I thought Wireman shoudl have got the award. At the beginning of the season noone gave him and his very young Lady Eagles a chance, yet once again Big Phil proved everyone wrong.

She did lead her team to the All "A" Classic in Richmond though, and got in one of the games recieved player of the game... Chelsee deserved this so don't try and take anything away from her... we will see who really is the best when ALC plays PC
