Losing to Corbin tonight nearly places the exclamation point on a stunning late season collapse.
What Happened? After the Cards blew out Corbin in January they were sitting as one of the top 20 teams in the state, and looked poised for a deep run in the Sweet 16. Seems like after the OT loss at North Laurel, the cards have gone into an irreversible tailspin. A blowout loss to Dunbar, losses to Madison Central, Sayre and Rockcastle.
Are there locker room issues with these kids? Injuries? Coaching? Whatever the case, I don't at all like SL's odds of beating Knox Central, Harlan co or Clay in the first round next week
Very disappointing.

I don't think you can put an exclamation point on a "late season collapse" until a team is actually eliminated.

I assume you don't pay any attention to 13th region basketball, let alone South basketball. They've had a ton of injuries since the last North game, and was in the roughest part of the schedule when up to 3 starters wasn't playing. Just now getting everybody back somewhat healthy. Take away Taylor from Corbin, Turner and Liford from Knox, Broughton from North, Carmichael from HC, give them the same schedule as South, and see how their results are. Bad time to get banged up, but it is what it is.

Locker room issues. LoL. I'd say the exclamation point against Corbin may have been the fact that Corbin had one kid shoot more ft's than Souths entire team.

HC has been down a starter for the last 5 weeks.
Every team has issues, usually injuries that they have to deal with this late in the season.

That starter for Harlan doesn't account for 25 points and close to 10 boards a game like Souths 2 starters did. Not to mention that they didn't play remotely close to the same schedule. Definitely no excuses at this point in the year, but there are reasons.

South is still a great basketball team. Injuries and sickness will cause you to lose a few. Playing a schedule like South's you're gonna drop games, especially dealing with the injuries they have. They'll be getting another starter back next week is what I hear and should be full strength for the region tourney. I'd take South over Clay. I can promise you Knox and HC would rather draw Harlan or Lynn camp instead of South.

I'm assuming that Corbin got a favorable whistle tonight? Who else besides Ramey has been hurt?
Any news on Coach Davis?

Tough loss

A tough stretch of games along with some valuable players missing games will often result in a few losses. South laurel is still one of the best teams in the region.

South lost it on their own, but the refs were absolutely awful tonight

That's kinda what happens when you try to foul your way back into a game late. Especially when they're haven't been a ton of fouls called and the other team is in the bonus+. This game was horribly officiated, but it was fair imho. Both teams got by with fouls and walks, both teams had touch fouls called on them. Both teams got away with pushing off. Like I said, it was horribly called, but it was fair.

COACHING
South- no coach, no game adjustment!
Corbin- goes to diamond and 2 and beats South

A diamond and 2 would be tough for anyone to play against.😉

Awful tight whistle from what I was told. Was really looking for this game to be a battle. South needs to get healthy quick.

great coaching move from Corbin. Diamond and 2 will work against most teams. Just according to how good of defense that 6th player plays. This could also help on offense, if they can find that always open man. IMO 6 will usually beat 5 but stranger things have happened.

Triangle 2

Triangle and 2. Diamond and 2 would suggest you have 6 players on the floor.
