Estill County 77 Powell County 69
#1
Estill wins the 56th district
#2
Estill County jumped out on Powell and never really looked back. Benton's 3 got Estill up and going at 3-0 and Estill's led grew to 5-0 before Powell County could get on the board. Engineers would go on a 4-0 run to make it 9-2 before the Pirates would make 1/2 FT's. Another 3 by Benton and Estill's led grew to 9 at 12-3. The Pirates got the led back to within 6 at 16-10 but another late 1st quarter push by Estill pushed their led after one to 21-12. Estill's led grew to 25-16 and Estill would eventually go up 29-18...That led would grow to 15 at 37-22...Engineers took a 39-25 led into halftime. Estill with stood Powell's best punch in the second half, every time the Pirates would get to within striking distance, Estill would either make a big shot or they'd get to the FT line where they'd make at least 1 or 2 if not both. The Pirates would get it down to 1 at 70-69 late but 2 clutch FT's by Caleb Bonny to make it 72-69 and that's about it. Estill would keep getting fouled and sinking their FT's on their way to a 77-69 victory over the Pirates. This is Estill's 5th district championship since joining the 14th region back in 2006.
