Middlesboro 2017
#31
Lol. Madness send his kids to Middlesboro. That would have been funny on a whole new level. I'm sure a board decision helped you with your decision.
#32
If someone didn't fire Randy for a political move for Massengill to be in. Middlesboro wouldn't be having these issues. Boro has the talent. Not the coaching! Just like Bell Co. they have the talent. Just didn't have the coach. Coaching plays a big roll folks. A good coach and take mediocre players and win. It's all about fundamentals.
#33
I've heard 5-6 Middlesboro kids are going to transfer to Bell Co once Dudley is officially announced as Head Coach. I mean who wants to play for a team that can't win? Can't blame the kids.
#34
Hears a little fact for you guys that think Dudley is comming back! The football coach has to be posted for 30 days state law! Amos would have to resign first for the job to be posted.... the website is open for anyone to look the job is not posted.... School board doesn't meet again until End of March so Dudley couldn't be the head coach until the end of April... Because the board would have to accept the resignation of Amos... So everyday Amos has not resigned it will be at least 30 more days before Dudley can be the coach.... Dudley is already on probabtion from the camp incident he's not gonna press his luck.... So that means no spring practice for the bobcats

Everything you just posted is incorrect. The job was created for Dudley as a classified job and was done Tuesday night. Extra curricular jobs do not have to be posted for 30 days. McCreary will keep his job and help Dudley. Please , understand what you are talking about before posting. So everything's in place waiting on Dudley. Some word on other assistants would be Frazier and
T. Hoskins from Middlesboro. Get it right

I have heard the same thing. I really hate to hear this but It does make sense i think he either played or coached with hilton before at pike so there is a relationship. Whatever happens best of luck to him.
#37
These last few post is exactly what I was saying and if that does happen, it will be the worst case for Middlesboro. Players will flock to Bell. Facilities are great and will now have great coaching. Trashman it is more than just a rumor. I do however think much, much more has to happen. I don't think it is a done deal just yet. We better hope and pray it doesn't.

Again, not for Football Coach, extra curricular doesn't fall under that. Classified 100 day contract is not a teaching job. Even if it was the wavier would allow them to hire him in two days. Spring ball will happen as scheduled. Nice homework, if Dudley wants to come he will be working with them within a week.(Football) The job doesn't start till the fall.
#40
Need to concentrate on how to keep everyone if he does.
#41
Jackets will work hard and see what they have I'm sure... And let the cards lay where they might
#42
With the combination of Martin and Massengill staying at Middlesboro and Hilton coming back to Bell, it is a given many will want to go to Bell. Now academics can be considered as well as they are the leading system in the country. Middlesboro had better make changes soon.
#43
Middlesboro certainly underachieved last year.

Looking at the county it appears that everyone did. Bell was awful by their standards. Pineville was supposed to have its best team in a long while and they lost 4 or 5 games. All around just a bad year for football for all area schools and I hate to see it.

I hope Middlesboro and Bell rebound big time in 2017 and I think that both can. From what I hear both programs are on the cusp of big changes. Obviously bell with a potential coaching change that would be huge and Middlesboro is overhauling their system from what I'm hearing. Bell and Middlesboro have good talent on both rosters and both are capable of wining again this season.

All I know is I'm ready to see some good football being played in Bell County again.
#44
Just don't see how Middlesboro underachieved last year if you watched their junior high program the previous four or five years. I said four years ago they'd be really bad in 2015 and 2016. They should get better if they don't lose key players.
Pineville was very competitive last year. They just don't have any depth and have issues with numbers. They have to start over again next fall.
Bell County had some really bad junior high teams until this past season, so it could take a while. Dudley has worked miracles before though, I guess you could say, so who knows, if he returns.
#45
You're probably right HCS and I value your opinion. Talent comes in cycles.
#46
Because we don't develop players for sure.
#47
NextGeneration why don't you go get a job coaching
#48
As tragic as that would be trashman, results may be better. Anyone can coach to the record we have had the last three years.
#49
It's interesting, both Bell & Boro have had recent struggles and both are looking to get back to what they are known for. Bell turns to Dudley and Boro turns to the option. Excited for both programs to re-establish themselves!
#50
The option isn't going to fix our problems. I guess that's all this staff knows now. unless the option comes with some players and coaches and a defense don't think it will help.
#51
With fans like some of you I dunno who would want to Coach this team!!! Amazing
#52
I think a true fan understands what is going on here. If it were any other coach they would have lost their job with Martin. They are 7- 26. When you do what Martin done and hire his best friends son, now he can't fire him. Daddy Massengill knows to much. That is what these fans know. It is time for a change fans know it , Martin knows it but there will never be a change until we have a change with Martin. This is why they both must go. True fans know this, kids and the program are more important than the good ole boys. Results , no one from Middlesboro cares for that anymore.
#53
Middlesboro will never make it back as long as current people are in charge. To much politics in the program itself. You can change the offense / defense all you want but until you change administration and staff you will not make it back. You can change schedule so that you may win a couple more games but that is not back to Middlesboro. Continue to mask the real problem and cover it with a few sub par wins and collect his checks, Martin's strategy. Of course when you are the main problem hard to do anything else. A true example of what an administration can do to a sports program when a person thinks they know more than anyone else on every subject. Good Luck, I see no light at the end of the tunnel for this program.

Russell County won 30+ games from 2011-2013, and if not for LexCath/Boyle in the playoffs...they win more and who knows what other heights. The last three years? They've won 4 games. Coach Sharp hasn't forgot to coach.

Tom Duffy had two years at Henderson County in 99-00 where they went 1-19. You don't need me to tell you who Tom Duffy is.

Mike Bowlin at East Jessamine only won 7 games from 2012-2014. This year? They were their 4A District Champs.

I can list a slew of others out there, but you get the point. There are a whole bunch of coaches out there who have had some rough years.

Sizemore at Bracken County only won 7 games from 2012-2014 (10 games from 2012-2015-four season), and this year they go 8-3 with the reality and expectations of next year being even better.

It's easy to get lost in our own worlds; seeing it with blinders on...but, when you look out at other programs (especially coaches- good coaches at that) it's easy to find many, many, many other examples of struggle.

I completely understand what you are saying, doesn't apply here. This is the entire record for this staff. 7-26. They didn't have a great record ,it was the first ever job. Listen sometimes coaches are bad and administration are worst. I don't think I have ever seen where you have acknowledged that? You are a coach right? It would seem so. Unless you are here and know everything that has happened can you really give an assessment of the situation? This program needs a change. Everyone here understands that but politics has made this situation and it needs to change.
#56
Flying Duck are you really comparing this coach to Duffy and the others? I think you missed it on the analogy just a bit. Need to come up with some others because those do not fit this situation at all.

Why doesn't it apply here? Coaches who have been in it for years can have a bad 2-3 years in a row at their current program(s), but new coaches can't? I don't really get that logic. If anything; it should be the other way around.

I have no direct insight of the Middlesboro program. None; which is why I used examples of other programs and coaches who have had ups and downs...either out of the gates and/or some years into their respected tenures. That's the only perspective I gave.

Technically; I've never given any kind of an assessment of the Middlesboro program..good or bad.

On situations the I KNOW first hand about I've been critical, but if I don't know (and, I mean....REALLY don't know) then I usually choose 'glass half full'. It's easy to be critical on here.

I don't KNOW the situation at Middlesboro. None. All I did was list SOME (and, there are plenty of others out there) coaches (young and old) who have had some really crappy years.

Did you know Kevin Wallace was the Head Coach at Warren East HS for 10 years back in the 80's-90's before going back to Bowling Green as an assistant and literally having the job fall in his lap in the summer of '96? His record over that 10 years at Warren East was almost 20 games below .500, he'd never had a winning record in that time and also had never won a playoff game. He's since turned BG into a Maserati. Obviously, he was a good coach (now proven to be a GREAT one, and maybe the best our state has ever seen).

Sam Harp's first coaching job was at Calloway County back in the early 80's, and they were HORRIBLE, too. I want to say they won 12 games or so in 4-5 seasons? He then ends up at Anderson County, and wins the schools FIRST EVER Region Title in 1987 I believe it was.....He then goes to Danville, and well...the rest is history. He did to Danville (in the old 4 class system) what Kevin Wallace did and has done to BG.

Both examples coaches left and went to another school. Time for this one to do the same and best of luck and hope he wins big. Again, you don't have a clue to this situation or been to a game or watched anything related. For every example you give I can give 10 of first job head coaches that never make it as head coach. Every situation is different. So, if you are saying let this go it will get better, I can not agree in this case. To much politics. Lost the kids and community.
#60
With all of that said; I think four years is a good number to give a coach. Crazy things happen in their 4th years (Bill McCartney only won 7 games in his first three years at Colorado back in the early 80s, and then they never had another losing season the next 10 which obviously included a National Title and a Runner Up).

Now, after that 4th year and there is not GROWTH (W/L, Numbers, Youth League growth & interest, etc...and, I'd look at a mix of all) , then it's probably time for a change...and, more times than not...the coach(es) himself knows that better than anybody.
