Johnson Central 77 Paintsville 61 57th District First Round

The Golden Eagles and the Tigers will take a little trip next Tuesday night on Rt. 460 to Salyersville to play in the first round of the 57th District tournament.

JC beat Paintsville in both games this season.
1/13 @ JC - 83-68.
2/10 @ Paintsville - 106-77.

I see JC getting the W and moving on to the 15th Region tournament.

Why is both girls games on Monday in the 57th and the boys have one game on Tues and one on Wednesday. Greedy as heck is what I call it

I would say that might be 15% of the equation.... But from what everybody said about the Double OT game that Magoffin County and Sheldon Clark played a few weeks ago, the gym was packed. Add in the JC crowd and the Paintsville crowd and I don't think Salyersville could hold it all.

I've not been to the new Magoffin County HS, but I've drove by it a bunch going to Lexington... it looks pretty big, not sure how much parking they have. I would think that the schools would have to agree to having the boys games on separate nights.

Well if they can't host two games in the district on the same night, then how could they ever think about hosting a regional tournament because that crowd would be a large.

How many seats in the new MC gym? There are single seats in the middle of the bleachers. When we played they were charging a dollar extra to sit there which is rediculous. A seat is a seat.

The KHSAA school directory says 2,000.

But somebody who would know sent me a message and said it's more around 2,300.

JC only plays one game this week... Friday night @ Tates Creek, who is 4-24 on the season.

IMO, this was a great coaching move. It gives them time to polish up on some stuff that might need polishing before post-season play begins.

Paintsville is young and will battle hard but they are still a year away from contention. JC doesn't need to look ahead to a matchup against SC or MC and just take care of business. They punch their ticket and win by 15+

Some of these middle of the pack to good teams play just a little bit harder when it comes to crunch time

Win or lose on Tuesday, Paintsville has really improved over the season. They had a few team issues and could have thrown their hands up and gave up, but they have persevered. So they may or may not get it together this year, but they will definitely be a contender in the net couple of seasons.

In 2008, Paintsville made it to the Elite 8, but since then, they have not made it to the 15th region tournament.

The senior class was in 3rd grade the last time Paintsville played in the 15th region tournament. That is hard to believe.

Upsets can happen... and do happen.

Paintsville has come a long way this season. However, JC has too much firepower for them tonight.
