Best Team That Will NOT Make it to Region?
#1
With only a few weeks left in high school basketball season, which is the best team that will NOT make it to your region's Final 8? I know in the 15th region there are at least 2 really competitive districts that are anyone's to win (57th and 59th).

This shows the importance of district games during the season. 4 good teams in the 57th (inconsistent play though). Same true in the 59th,except 3 teams. 58th 1 team!! Haven't watched the 60th so I have no idea.

Hard to tell in the 40th.

Current standings

Paris 3-0
GRC 3-1
Bourbon County 1-3
Montgomery County 0-3

The District Tournament is at Bourbon County. The last time it was at Bourbon County in 2015, the #3 and #4 seeds won!

Knott, Cordia or Letcher will be probably be fighting for two spots in the 14th.

by what I have heard. started next year. every team will make it to the region T-ment. they are going to seed them. if it is true, this will be the last year of districts in the 15th region.

To me the probable answer to this question is a no-brainier. It will be either Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian or Dunbar. All three are very good and are in the same district.

I think the super regional idea is great. The 15th is the pilot for the state and if it goes well they are supposed to do away with all the district stuff and everyone will be doing it. This will take care of all the re-alignment every time a school closes or consolidates with another. One big tourney at the end is much better than playing district tournament games that are usually the 3 and 4 seed getting blown out again, not always but most of the time.

Johnson Central, Magoffin County, Sheldon Clark.... one of these will be left out in the 57th.

This should be one of the best 57th district tournaments in history.

What's the difference in gettin blown out in the first round of districts and getting blown out of the first round of region, lol.

In the 15th Region next year, instead of districts you're gonna have region seeding. That means the 1 seed will play 16 seed, 2 seed play 15 seed, etc etc. Still gonna have blow outs.

Didn't say their wouldn't be blowouts in the region, just saying that I think winning a district is a waste of time, when most of the time all you are going to do is play #1 and #2 in finals and the game doesn't mean anything because you both go to the region. In the Super Region it's win or go home, all the districts do is give 2 more games that don't really mean anything. Love that they are going to seed them too. Best teams during the season get rewarded for their play. Such a great idea.

How can you say these district games don't mean anything? It's all some of these schools have to play for is a district title. And for those schools and those kids. The district does mean something.

Only advantage it has is a district winner plays a runner up in 1st round
I like the idea of a super regional though

That is why I think they are doing seeding, to make sure the teams that won the most games get the easier game for the first round.

This is from the press release on KHSAA:

This would result in all teams advancing from the district tournament to the region tournament in those sports, but seeded by regular season play, rankings, voting or other methods to be worked out in future meetings with those schools.

So, if I am reading this right, district tournaments are still being played.

I am willing to give the super region a chance in the 15th, but don't get rid of the district games or tournament. Because in most cases that is your biggest games for a crowd draw and money. Hopefully the district games will still have meaning. For instance your team wins their district and is awarded a better seed than a team that didn't. I think they will need a balance of schedule strength, wins/losses and district tournament placement. But I can see 57th and 59th as toss ups. Going to be exciting.
#16
For the 14th region whoever doesn't make it out of the 54th district, all four teams are good this year.
#17
Who will decide the seeding , and what's it gonna be based on? All teams in a region don't play each other in regular season. Looking at records in the 15th, Johnson Central would play Betsy Layne if it was in effect this season?
#18
Campbell County or Scott may not in the 10th. Both are fantastic though.
#19
Two teams from the 54th will be sitting out and all 4 teams are probably in the top 8 in the region.

Perry has the most talent, granted 3 players brought their talents to Perry-I know only to better their lives and academics. Leslie has beaten Hazard and Buckhorn now but both games were close. Hazard and Buckhorn both have some nice wins and will always compete.

But anything can happen in the district. Draw will be an entertaining one this year
#20
There two or three district that could lose a regional contender out. Owensboro,Daviess Co,Apollo or Owens catholic another one Ballard Trinity Wagganer. and then Lexington Christain, Lafayette, Dunbar and Lexington Catholic. Thats just a few good district.

some districts still draw??? that's ridiculous!!
#22
Not from Buckhorn or Leslie's pov. I could give you 20 names in the last 10 years easily that would support their decisions. But that would be a violation of the rules. And all of us don't have the kind of pull to get away with breaking or bending the rules. So I'll just leave it at that. Kind of how Buckhorn and Leslie does with the draw.
#23
The way I'm hearing is the top seed will be getting a bye for the first rounds so the lower seed will battle to play the higher seeds so it should in theory prevent some of the blowouts

Campbell County and Scott will both advance, IMO.

#9 and defending state champion Dunbar is out. So far, this is the only top 25 team that is out.
#26
Dunbar

I was told by a AD in the 15th region that district tournaments will still be played. Winners of those district tournaments will be ranked 1-4. Runners up will be seeded 5-8. The rest of the field is ranked based on whatever criteria they choose. So basically the first round of the district tournaments still mean something as in if you win you at least get a home game in the first round of regionals.

Super regional would have been nice this year inbthe 15
