I was very impressed with North Laurel tonight. They were focused and looked like a much better team than they did against Harlan County.

North beat a good Perry team... I knew they were better than they showed against Harlan Co.

But since they haven't been playing that well except for the last 10 days that may have peaked to soon with no room for improvement!

I always trust what Olred posts, but I would like to hear from Playmaker too and get his thoughts on this one, he's usually brutally honest even about his own team.

Props to Coach Mahan. He always has his players playing like they would run through a brick wall for him. Contrast that with South, whose coach told them all week he didn't think they could win because North was so much tougher than they were. Girls are funny that way, they believe what you tell them. South's leading scorer sat on the bench for 7 game minutes of the first half (no foul trouble). Surprised that South never abandoned the press, even after North shot their 86th layup.

Final score was 79-69. North was definitely focused. Lawson came with something to prove and she did. Good game North you earned it!

I really like South Laurels team... at the beginning of the year I was a doubter of what they were because they were still just a .500 team last year but they really are much improved. They had a bad shooting night some of that because of North and some because of the game itself I believe (nerves). Some of the substitution patterns was a little odd but over all the shooting was the issue. The rematch will be interesting in Feb. and one I plan on being at. These two teams are probably the two most fun to watch in the region.

3-19 from 3 will not win south many games. 15 percent. South press did give north a lot of layups but caused a lot of turnovers too. South fouling to much and putting north in the bonus with 3 min to go in first q didnt help. Making shots solves a lot of issues even on the defensive end. South simply didnt make shots. north got a lot of those lay ups on long missed shots by south. Coach has most the girls scared to make a mistake cause they know they coming out and sitting a long time. Hard to play aggresive and confident when thats going on. jmo

Play Defense and rebound and you'll play... Score 69 point u should win..
Averaging 68 points a game. Don't seem to me they're playing scared... Hard to score 68 points a game playing scared...

anybody thats watched south will see the confidence level is no where near the level it was early in the year. You can not play basketball worried to make a mistake cause you are gonna make some. You better have your horses confident. South is not right now.

Can't play basketball just worried about scoring either... Defense is the issue...

Guys north beat a very good Pcc team by five at Pcc an ran Harlan city out of the gym ! South has good team an they beat u by 10 on your home floor! I could complain an tell you that Pcc best player who shootsclose to 90 per from the free throw line missed a bunch of free throws an Pcc would have won if she hit half of what she missed, but north still came to play an beat us! South an Pcc need to just work harder an move on!!

South does have confidence issues, but defense usually fixes that. I'm a huge South fan. I hope this loss makes them better. I hope South (Coaches, players, and parents) learns from a loss and it gets them ready for tournament time. Which is when it matters.

South will be fine... looking at the schedule I don't see many teams that will beat them left to play. Winning cures a lot! The focus will need to be on getting better for tournament time. They will make it out of district obviously as they should go in as a 1 seed. I would bet no one will want to play them in a region tournament as the only team that can match them speed wise on a big floor is NL.

I was impressed with my hounds playing SL so close last week (I wasn't at the game) but I still think speed wins out. While I have the chance I will say that the region needs to watch out as I think Corbin is coming together.

Talent hasn’t been an issue for South for several years now. A culture of disbelief and losing seasons has been. Coach inherited both. Growing pains are to be expected until he figures out how to change that and are normal with any coaching switch. South has the right man in place for the job. He cares about the girls and building a winning program. Adjustments will be made and they’ll be right in the thick of things come tournament time.
