D.J. Elliot is the linebacker coach at UK. Landis was quality control and his specialty is secondary.

He was assisting with LBs according to the reporters. But yes, officially Quality Control.

It's going to be interesting in seeing how this football team forms up. Starting, right of the bat, at the 6A level with the big dogs. It will also be interesting to see how this new school affects the performance of the other local Lexington high schools such as Bryan Station which is relatively nearby.
I have this question about their new Athletic Director. Maybe someone from the northeast part of the state could give me an answer. Not being smart about anything at all as this is a genuine question. Was this Garry McPeek involved when Fairview got into trouble with the KHSAA? Am I crossing wires with Fairview and Rose Hill? The Fairview mention in the article made the name McPeek stick out in my mind for being fired or some sort of involvement. Thanks for the explanation in advance.
The article is quoted below from the Herald Leader....

About 50 individuals applied for the job, Douglass Athletic Director Garry McPeek said. McPeek, a former athletic director at Fairview High School who most recently served as Lafayette’s offensive line coach, interviewed 13 people for the position, and it was Landis’ relationship-first mentality that made him stand out as a person and football coach.

Yes, it is the same Garry McPeek. I wouldn't trust that man as far as I could throw him.

6A football in Lexington hasn't been great since the 6 Class system has been adopted.

Lafayette has been the Fayette County flag bearer in the 6 Class system. Being the only Fayette County team to reach the 6A title game since the 2007 season.
The Generals lost both 6A state title games to Male in 2015 and Trinity in 2016.

I don't see the new school making much of an impact on the 6A picture. Or at least not for 5-10 years.

In order for a 6a team to compete with the BIG three in Louisville, someone will have to do what they do. Consolidate talent and have great coaching. I do think Lexington and the surrounding counties have more than enough talent, it's just spread out too far.

Oh boy.... it's already starting.

The high school plans to use Stallions for all teams, meaning the girls’ programs will be represented by a male mascot, instead of a female alternative like “Fillies” or “Mares.”

If I was a betting man, I would bet that a change or compromise happens in the near future.

Hopefully they will start with the colors!

Stallionettes or Stallionitas!

Just read they're now letting students vote on the name because "it's offensive to make female athletics be referred to as stallions." Enough of the PC garbage. 🚮🚮🚮
#13
Colors need to be kelly green and white. Thundering Herd for the mascot. Its ok to use horses instead of buffalo.
#14
Not so fast, school is being sued already, lol.

I don't think it was anything to do with PC. It just makes no sense, you can't have a female form of a stallion....I mean What if the boys teams had to play as the Broodmares or Fillies?
#16
I really don't see what the big deal is! There are plenty of other high schools out there that have the nickname of Stallions! The one that comes to mind for me is South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, SC.

Can't do anything these days without offending someone.

But, it's that PC culture that's killing America! I saw it on the news!

I don't like the stallion nickname, simply because it seems to easy/cliche. We get it, we live in horse country. I would have loved for them to have an original and unique name. I mean, how many horse based mascots are there?

Not as many as we'd think.

McCracken, Muhlenberg and Louisville Moore- Mustangs

Harrison County, Newport Catholic- Thoroughbreds

DeSales- Colts

That's all I can think of.

I just don't get when the gender of your mascot really ever mattered. It's a mascot. Whitley County's mascot is portrayed as a male. Do they need to go back and make another colonel as a female so everyone feels included?

I don't think that's really it. A colonel can be either male or female. A stallion, by definition, cannot.

I don't agree with their argument, but I do understand where they're coming from. Granted they aren't the only one, but they are the newest one.

None of these are gender specific; like Stallions.

It matters nothing to me, but I'll bet if they adopted Fillies or some other female mascot for the entire school's sporting teams, people would be up in arms!!!

I always thought Thoroughbreds would be the most logical choice. It's Lexington, male or female works, the horse logo is already there. Sometimes logical is best.
I just hope it doesn't follow the "not ending in S" trend, like most WNBA teams have done.
#23
West Jessamine Colts
Bishop Brossart Mustangs
#24
Racers? Hunters? For the ( Orange and green ) Stars or North Stars for the paper that Frederick Douglas wrote for?
#25
They could be the American Pharoahs!

Or the Moonshiners!

I'm just trying to think of horse things or things about Kentucky.

Also saw that the green was "Keeneland green." They missed a big opportunity to be unique for the orange not being "coal fire orange."

Why don't they pay me to come up with these things? There wouldn't be controversy! Everybody would love for their daughter to be a Stallionita!
#26
Let's just call them horseys

A Mustang doesn't refer to a male, it's a breed. A Colt though is. I think this will open the eyes of a lot of mascots.
#28
Out of curiosity how many schools had these nicknames before females participated in high school sports?

This has been blown way out of proportion by the liberal Nazis.

muh gender triggers are hurting Confusednicker:

After already buying all this stuff, I would not let something so miniscule stand in the way of something so stupid, only the social justice warriors could come up with.

1. To be honest, naming the school Frederick Douglass is more cliché and corny than naming the mascot the Stallions. Henry Clay makes sense, since he is from the area, but that would be like having a martin luther king school or road. Its just nonsense and overused now.

2. If it is in fact such a huge deal for the ladies to be called the stallions (I would imagine most sport playing girls could care less) then why not just change their mascot to the Phillies or something of that nature? Why replace everything when you can just add in Phillies to everything?

3. It is no wonder Lexington football sucks and will continue to do so with so many panty wearing politicians and "activist" around.

4. Their are so many schools in the state that could have the same argument but they say nothing. If im not mistaken Harlan County had a vote for their mascot. Why not do the same with this school?

5. For the love of God and everything Holy, be original. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Lions, Tigers, Eagles, or Bulldogs stretched across their jerseys before its over with. (Id imagine most girls would rather be known as stallions instead of dogs)
