Did anyone else hear Pike Central's coach tell the Belfry student section to shut their mouths tonight..A girl from Central got hurt and Butcher was down on the Belfry end..I didn't hear the kids say anything..I think he showed himself tonight, but then again he did get a technical called on him.

Your statement is WRONG!
Belfry's section was chanting "keep crying #10, keep crying #10!" They were being rude and he should have yelled. As for the technical, when it was called Butcher had said absolutely nothing to the ref and in fact, #25 did get a foul that the whistle was not blown for, so he should have been ranting right along with his fan section. Some of those calls tonight were ridiculous!!!! I think Coach Butcher coached a hell of a game tonight and I commend him. If his girl's had as much passion for the game as he does they might would win some more games. They need to toughen up!!!!

no butcher had no right to scream at them kids.. everyone knows good and well if one of belfrys players were hurt pike centrals kids would be screaming and taunting just as bad.. it showed his maturity level was about on the same level as a high school kid.. do you think cidney halbert, mark gannon, tammy tussey wouldve ever done that? no ..i dont think so .. they have a little bit of class and a bit more mature .. :big grin:

Hey now..all I asked was a question..kids will be kids and sometimes don't realize the effects of what they are saying..I don't think they should have said anything, especially when you have someone hurt, but I didn't hear what they said, Thank you for clarifying that..Since you heard it though, what did Butcher say in response? I saw a deputy come over and speak to the student section.

Give me the Rock: I do realize kids will be kids, but I think that Butcher had the right to defend his hurt player and was not "showing himself" in doing so as you quoted earlier. He told the section to shut up. He was pretty angry with them from the look on his face.
Samuel Adams: YOU CANNOT tell me that Gannon would not have done the same. I would take the bet any day that Gannon would have done the same to PC's pep section. That coach has the quickest temper of every single 15th region coach combined. It sickens me to see him get up in the ref's faces and SCREAM, yet rarely get a technical. I don't think maturity had anything to do with Butcher's reaction. Any coach would have reacted the same way he did in my opinion. By the way, #10 didn't play the rest of the game and is still hobbling around today with a very swollen knee. Those tears she shed were from sincere pain. Belfry chanting crybaby and other taunts were uneccessary and I still commend Butcher for putting them all in their place! Belfry's pep section and PC's pep section were both out of line for most of the night, but they are high school kids ~ enough said

Butcher has no class whatsoever. His newspaper article kept talking about "crap" when they defeated Phelps. That truly is a good coach with no class !!!! The Board of Education and his Principal should have a talk with about this article. I personally think he needs to grow up a little as well as one of his assistant's who turned on the Belfry section when we played them on their home court when Haley Ratliff lost her shoe and sat on the floor for five minutes. Amanda Moon lost her shoe in the District game on Saturday and look how fast she put hers back on! Grow up Buther!!

I find it funny that Butcher has "no class" because he told the student section to "Shut up" or whatever for BLATANTLY TAUNTING an INJURED player.

Number 10 did play the rest of the game after resting a few minutes.ÃÂ , I find it funny that a PC fan would say that as he is the one who always calls in favor of PC.

Phoenix,
You're not a very good observer if you think Thompson came back for the rest of the game after a few minutes rest. She did come back in, but could only manage a trip or two before having to return to the bench.

So you admit she did come back in? I hate that Hannah did get hurt, if she did, but she was not the only player on either team that got bumped and knocked around. It was not as if the Belfry player did it on purpose or that it was only Belfry's players who were doing the knocking. At least when a Belfry player knocks someone down they extend their hand to help them up, not step over them like they could care less if they hurt someone. BTW, did you not hear the Belfry side applaud when Hannah got to her feet and walked off the floor.
03-06-2006, 11:14 AM
I think that if Butcher made remarks to the student section of Belfry that it was completely wrong. Kids will always be kids but he is an adult and a coach is suppose to be able to look over things like that. And if he can't he doesn't need to be in the position that he is in. And if any other coach makes replies to the opposing student section, they should not be in their position either. I know it is hard to listen to but you are suppose to be adults
03-06-2006, 11:24 AM
No one ever said that Hannah didn't return at all, I was only saying that she didn't stay in the rest of the game.
I don't think anything would have been said to the Pep Section if they were taking shots at Butcher or the scoreboard, but when it involves an injured player being PURPOSELY TAUNTED, I feel that he had every right to say something. They are just kids, but at the same time, so was the player lying on the floor.

If you were in the stands there is no way you could have heard them say that. I was sitting on the side closest to the pep section and all I could hear was PC's section shouting "this isn't football". You're just trying to cover up another one of Butcher's immature mistakes by blaming it on the Belfry kids. I'd bet there are many posters on here that would say most of Belfry's kids have more class in their pinkie than Butcher has in his whole body! He's a big baby, with a big temper that doesn't know how to talk to refs, reporters, or apparently kids.

I have heard several of Butcher's interviews on the radio and I think he does a fine job. This is his first year as a head coach and he is only 28 yrs old so perhaps because he isn't an old shoe that makes him look immature to you, Acid. I will agree that sometimes he is a bit "green" when it comes to exactly what to say in certain situations, but you need to allow a little slack. It takes time to get accustomed to interviewing and such. He has no more temper than any other coach I've seen. AC's coach, Belfry's coach, Paintsville's coach, etc. have thrown total fits at games, so lighten up. Coaches get upset and that's part of the game. If he said something to the section you can bet something inappropriate was said to instigate such a response.
Also, for clarification on #10 - She came back into the game and went one trip up the floor and was not mobile on the injured knee. She did sit out the rest of the game and according to his interview on the radio last night was still limping and unable to practice yesterday.

bballfanatic you are completely wrong. For one every coach gets on the refs. Mark Gannon has had many t's called on him in his days of coaching basketball but it looks as if Butcher is catching up with him already in the first season. haha another when he gets on the refs, the refs will sometimes admit they missed it,other times he is just doing it to try to get a call but what coach don't? Another Butcher is IMMATURE I mean come on if hes going to let high school kids get to him like that then God help the man. Gannon has way more class than that and would never do that. Yes, he might've got upset but he would've never showed himself by screaming at a bunch of high school kids that are cheering on their team.Yes,Belfry might have been in the wrong by screaming at #10, but WE ALL KNOW that pike central would have been 10 times worse if one of Belfry's players were hurt on their side of the court and you cannot argue with that because kids are kids and they will do whatever it takes to get at teams and espeically the big rivarly teams. Butcher has some growing up to do. But you have no right to say Gannon would do it because 1 have you ever seen him do it? NO didn't think so, therefore he wouldn't. I remember a couple of years ago when Anna Bevins was down on the PC side and the kids were taunting her like crazy and Gannon said nothing to them so there goes to prove he would not do it. Butcher needs to show little more class and grow up just a tad bit more.

Ohh, and by the way bballfanatic Butcher didn't put any kid in place. Him screaming made it worse and made the kids go wild. They loved every minute of getting him fired up. And just to let you know Gannon I was behind the bench and Gannon ask one of the players why Belfrys kids were screaming and hollering at the coach like that and thats when a player told him what was going on,and then he said nothing else he went on coaching, guess EVERYONE realizes Butchers maturity level is on the same as a high school kids.

It's wrong for anyone to taunt an injured player in any sport.. i don't care who you are or where you go to school at.. if i was a coach and one of my kids were hurt, and all i could hear were a bunch of smartasses yelling, then i too would turn around and telll them to shut up.. however, i wouldn't be so nice and to just say shut up.. and if that makes me immature then so be it, but that hurt player on my team means more to me than what you think my maturity level is.
