The Founding Fathers: Deism and Evangelical Christianity
#1
https://www.britannica.com/topic/The-Fou...ty-1272214

I simply ask folks to apply the four questions/tests to our Founding Fathers. If you won't read a Britannica article, move along. You don't want to be bothered by historical reality.

Just a tidbit from the widow of FF Patrick Henry, orthodox Christian, to demonstrate a tension between Deism and orthodox Christianity existed among the Founders:

"He {Patrick Henry} met death with firmness, and in full confidence that through the merits of a Bleeding Savior his sins would be pardoned...I wish the grate [sic] Jefferson & all the heroes of the Deistical party could have seen my...husband pay his last debt to nature."

In honor of football and basketball polls, I offer a top ten of the Founding Fathers, with honorable mentions:

1. George Washington
2. John Adams
3. Thomas Jefferson
4. James Madison
5. Benjamin Franklin
6. Samuel Adams
7. Thomas Paine
8. Patrick Henry
9. Alexander Hamilton
10. Gouverneur Morris

Honorable Mention: John Hancock, John Marshall, Peyton Randolph, John Jay

Again, folks, do a bit of inquiry using the four "tests" in the Brittannica article.
