MayfieldCardinal Wrote:The National Record Book is maintained by the National Federation of State High School Associations and according to their records that would place Pikeville after confirmation of 665 wins at 7th in the state and 52 nationally. Here is #38 through #51 and it shows that Pikeville could move up the list quickly with continued success like we saw last season and give the team even more to shoot for.

698.0 Arcola IL (1894-2015, 698-331-40)
695.0 Thomasville GA (1910-2015, 695-330-46)
693.0 Philadelphia Central PA (1887-2015, 693-409-61)
690.0 Williamsport PA (1892-2015, 690-461-55)
690.0 Seminole OK (1912-2015, 690-346-34)
686.0 Martins Ferry OH (1907-2015, 686-363-36)
686.0 Omaha Creighton Prep NE (1893-2015, 686-218-23)
682.0 Philadelphia William Penn Charter PA (1887-2015, 682-363-53)
682.0 Fostoria OH (1896-2015, 682-447-42)
681.0 Greensburg Salem PA (1894-2015, 681-364-39)
677.0 Huntingdon PA (-2015, 677-359-39)
675.0 Dover OH (1896-2015, 675-352-44)
671.0 Somerset KY (1907-2015, 671-392-43)
666.0 Pottsville PA (-2015, 666-512-46)

I'm kin to the Rameys that founded Elkhorn, so I know a bit about its history.
Elkhorn was the original name. In 1882, it became Praise per the govt, but the railroad still used Elkhorn. EC was incorporated in 1912, but the post office remained Praise.
Cumberland (no 's') HS opened in 1926 in Praise/EC, Ky. (you decide)
In 1952, the Praise p.o. was finally renamed Elkhorn City, as was the HS.

Harlan Co's Cumberland HS was built in the early 1930s.

9/12/1980 - actually was St. Paul, Va, down in Wise County.

I've been doing research on the Buchanan teams, and I found a couple of things different. Unfortunately, I didn't note if I got the scores from a yearbook or which paper. Our local weekly lost all their pre-52 issues in the 77 flood.

I have the 1943 game as a 9-7 W for us - believe it was down here.
I have the 1953 game as a 7-19 L for us.

Old thread, but was just wondering how many wins y'all have accounted for Pikeville having. I know y'all had accounted for close to 670, and wondered if all years have been accounted for. I just like keeping up with numbers like these. Also how many does Belfry have they got to have a bunch as well.

All years now have at least some results. I am thinking we have possibly incomplete records for 1925, 1930, 1932, and 1943.

1925 and 1930 are the big ones. Just 4 results for 1925 and only 3 for 1930 and an article from the last game, a loss to Louisa, calls Pikeville "previously unbeaten".

1932 just missing a score from a Game vs. Kermit, WV (if it was played).

1943 has just 7 games. Need to do more research.

At this point we have PHS at: 676 Wins, 281 Losses, 24 Ties (Including playoffs)

in the Playoffs: 84 Wins, 33 Losses (Including Fairview forfeit in 2012)

So Pikeville currently has a 69% overall win percentage, along with 72% in the playoffs. Nice! Outstanding work so far!

Without a doubt 1 of the top 1A programs in our state! Rich History!

So what about Belfry? I found where they started playing football in 1924, but have not seen how many all time wins they have had on any list. Playing that long they should have a lot of wins unless they where a struggling program for a long time. Was they not winning a lot before Haywood? They still got to be closing in on 500 or so wins I would think with that many years playing.

A lot of programs would love to have those numbers.

Something I was given by the same individual who helped me with my Pikeville information had Belfry at 568-275-15 before the season. However, it looks like there are some holes in the early years there as well. I would say that those records are not nearly as complete as the Pikeville ones, so there could be many more totals added.
