This game hasn't been very fun for Russell for almost a decade now. What makes the streak against Russell so great is the fact that they never expected us to beat them even once when this game was put on the schedule back in 2007 and here we are nine years later leading the series 6-1. I expect this to be a tight game and while I do think Raceland is the better team, the Rams still have to bring their A game because Russell is more than capable of pulling out a win.

It's actually 8-1. Russell won the first one in 2007 35-14 and hasn't won since.

I know this is off topic, who are the Rams going to play in the first round of the playoffs?

I'm pretty sure it is 6-1. Don't forget that we had a two year gap in 2013-2014.

Raceland had 60 yards in penalties. there were several off-setting penalties, & Paintsville's coaching staff had at least 3-4 penalties.

You're right. Forgot about the gap.

Had they played in those two years I feel very confident that the record would now be 8-1.

Right now it's looking like a rematch with Bishop Brossart at home.

Rams have to make changes in the O-line. Not every series but at least half them.

I have a serious question for the Russell fans? What happened over the past decade? Before 2006 Raceland probably never would have won this game and now we have completely owned the series. Obviously we have had some good teams during the past 10 years but something seems to have changed dramatically in the Russell psyche since this series started because the Devils just haven't been able to find a way to win.

It was a joke aimed at the overly critical. Rams have had a great season and will continue on this Friday

I really think a lot of Russell people thought the Devils would dominate this series based on where these two programs were at the time. I don't think anyone at Russell thought they were going to cool off as suddenly as they did. The talent was there to continue playing at a high level, but the discipline wasn't. The program just kind of lost its edge.

As far as the head to head with Raceland is concerned, there hasn't been a great deal of separation between the two schools talent wise. Maybe Russell just didn't show Raceland the respect they should have. That shouldn't be an issue after losing six in a row.

From the early 2000's to mid 2000's, Russell had a core group of players who sacrificed and worked as hard in the weight room as any team in the state. They won state weightlifting meets during these years. To put it simply, they had some beasts on the field along with the 2 best skill backs they have ever had in Josh Gross and Kasey Clark. They also had some heady QB's during their state title appearances in Tommy Brown and Tyler Jones. Raceland caught the tail end of the last great Russell team in 2007.

That set up 2008 as the season to seek revenge on Russell football. Talent went down a little, work ethic went down a lot, and overall enthusiasm in and around the program all but disappeared. At the same time, Raceland entered some years where their talent was at an all-time high with players like Carver, Denton, Boyles, and Logan. Their coaching staff and fans were hungry for success, particularly after seeing their neighbor have so much of it the previous years. Russell players and parents saw the downturn in Russell football and some even moved to Raceland. At the same time, Ashland also had some incredibly talented athletic teams with players like Hunter, Salow, Withrow, and Whetsel. Russell got demoralized more and more by these 2 teams over the next few years, which ultimately led to the entire program just becoming stagnant. This led to the firing of Ivan McGlone and the hiring of TJ Maynard.

TJ has Russell back on the right track. Crowds are big, players look enthused, the team appears to be in shape, and Russell is playing with pride once again. Will the Devils beat Raceland this year? The task is tough because Raceland is as good as they've been since 2008 and Russell, while having all the effort of the early to mid 2000 teams, just doesn't have the superstar players like Gross or Clark to lead the way. I personally think Russell gets the win this season and keeps their progress going up while this is Raceland's pinnacle season for a while.

I think it's the Devils year. Russell comes playing free and aggressive on defense causing problems for the Rams. Low scoring struggle. Raceland fans are just lucky we didn't play em when I played or it may have been running clocks for few years..... Anyway

Devils- 20

Rams- 12

I remember the year the Devils went to the state finals and lost to an Ashland team that Raceland beat. 2006 I believe it was. So I don't know where you get that running clock crap at.
