13th Region Preseason
#1
1. Harlan County
2. Harlan
3. South Laurel
4. Whitley County
5. North Laurel
6. Lynn Camp
7. Clay County
8. Corbin
9. Knox Central
10. Pineville

I would say Harlan first since they are defending champs. However, Massingale graduating is a huge loss leaving Harlan a one guard team. Brock cannot handle the ball by herself and HC (with 3-5 guards) will frustrate her from start to finish. I think Harlan and HC will seperate themselves from the rest of the group.
#3
rest of the region has caught up to Harlan, losing the shooter will hurt them badly. They won't be clsoe to the team they have been last 2 years.... they'll still be near the top but Harlan County by far best team......
#4
I know it was just summer ball but Clay beat Harlan county and lost to Harlan city by 1. How are they at number 7?

1. Harlan City
2. Harlan County
3. South Laurel
4. North Laurel
5. Clay
6. Corbin
7. Whitley
8. Knox.
9. Lynn Camp
10. Pineville

With the top 5 being very close.
#5
I saw them this summer. No one is "by far" the best team. HCHS beat Harlan by 3 or 4 at Union in a very close game. South is also right there with Clay and North also in the mix.
#6
South Laurel is very talented. They could make a big jump forward this year
#7
I like South Laurel and their talent. I also think Williamsburg can move into top 10.

That's your opinion, we will disagree. Clay and North aren't close to top 3.

My opinion: Harlan and Harlan Co will be the two teams to beat and it will be interesting to see how they develop through the season. Harlan Co has so much talent but Harlan has my favorite player in the region for next year in Brock... on the high school level and in this area she can flat out get it done as well as Bianchi which is one of the most underrated players in the region. I love South's pg and they have everyone back from last year which will go a long way but still was as sub .500 team last year and lost to NL by 20 or 30+ both games last year so while losing the Bruner girl will drastically hurt NL I won't put South WAY ahead of NL or Clay for the preseason. I do think that South has the most complete team though and could be very dangerous this year. Especially with a new coach...
The team that I think will most surprise though is Whitley. I think this could be a big year for Whitley(as bad as that pains me to say). So as this is all just our opinions this is my pre-season picks in tiers...

Tier I
1. Harlan Co.
2. Harlan Ind.

Tier II
3. South Laurel
4. North Laurel

Tier III
5. Clay
6. Whitley with a chance to make a big leap

Tier IV
7. Corbin
8. Knox
9. Lynn Camp
10. Pineville

This may change as I have heard of some transfers this fall which is odd for girls... I don't know this for sure so I'm not using them for my current rankings.
#10
South did finish the year 10-5 in their last 15 games. No huge wins but did beat clay on the road and Whitley twice in that stretch. They are getting better but still have to mentally get over some humps. most talented team in region IMO.

I know you know basketball from reading your posts, but I just can't see Clay and North being in separate tiers. I think a lot of people will rank Clay ahead of North. I think it could go either way. I'd also put Corbin in the same tier as Whitley.

To follow that pattern, I'd go:

Harlan
HCHS
South

North
Clay

Whitley
Corbin

Pineville
Lynn Camp
Knox Central or Jackson County

I don't know how much I really know about basketball but I can coach with the best of them from the stands... I completely understand what you are saying about clay. North lost to them in district championship in ot and only beat clay by 10-12 in the two reg season games. I think that goes more to style of play. NL has to speed you up or be hitting from the perimeter. I thought we (Corbin) were as good as Clay last year losing by 2 to them but north killed us in region as they could speed us up and was hitting from outside and they can't do that to clay. That can be made as the argument though to either put them together in the same tier or apart. It all comes out in the season though.

Love watching Brock play.
#16
Brock as well as Green from HC are 2 of the best players to play in the region in the last 5-6 years, maybe longer. They would probably even be 2 & 3 during that time span.
#17
Watch out for Jackson County only got one senior and one Junior the rest is freshman and sophomores
#18
I didn't think Cats Pause was released yet.
Cats Pause always does an outstanding job.
If I had to rank the 13th region I wouldn't change much.

Remember this name Amerah Steele south laurel freshman. She didnt get to play much last year but she will be way up this list by years end year. Taylor cromer from south has improved a ton this summer too.
#20
South Laurel will be deadly at every position this year. If their chemistry matches their talent (and the egos are kept in check), they have the potential to be very dangerous.
#21
Anyone seen the preseason rankings for the 12th Region? Can you create a thread with it?

Better than Maci Morris?
#23
No neither is better than Maci Morris. Reason I said they may be 2 and 3 during the last several years, meaning 2nd and 3rd best. Morris is best to play in the region in a very, very long time - could make a case for maybe the best ever. But after Morris can't think of 2 players right off that would be considered better than Brock or Green, in the last few seasons.
#24
Sierra Feltner from Whitley County is very underrated. She is long and athletic with a nice skill set.
#25
There is an excellent level of talent in the 13th this year and most teams have multiple dynamic players including a load of young ladies who have yet to "break out." Should be competitive and fun to watch...
#26
Agree with most of the Cats Pause player list...Pretty hard to rate with such a deep talent pool in the region, but hard to argue based on career body of work for these young ladies.

How Brooklyn Bryant from Lynn Camp is not a top 10 player is beyond me!!!

Because there are at least 10 players better than her perhaps? Confusednicker:

Bryant, Tye or Hall aren't better than anyone on the list.
The only girl I see possibly left out is Mackenzie King of Harlan.
