The Mighty Musketeers from Greenup County (5-2, 2-0) make the trip (and it feels like it's about six hours) down U.S. 23 South this Friday night for a major district contest.
Johnson Central (6-0, 2-0) has been on the road for the past three weeks straight (@ Harlan County, @ Boyd County and @ East Carter) and are looking to get continue their undefeated season at the Nest.
Outside of this game, I am a pulling for Greenup County to get 2nd place in the district. They already have wins vs. East Carter & Rowan County. They will more than likely beat Boyd County. A win vs. Ashland Blazer should get them 2nd place in the district and a Home playoff game. Greenup County's win last season in the playoffs was HUGE for their program. A home playoff for Greenup County would be their first since the 2008 season.

Gc can probably make a game of it for a while i see the eagles wearing out greenup by the third quarter. Jc is really talented and deep. Number 7 is the best football player I've seen this year. The kid is special

A 7-28 Loss in the 4A state championship game vs. Trinity (Louisville).

I think Johnson Central wins this one in a blowout.
I think you are off base, Pulp Fiction, in your prediction for the district standings, though. Ashland is a better team than Greenup and will take 2nd in the district.

What are the chances Ashland Blazer cancels not just football team, but their entire Athletic program?
The world would be a better place if that happened.

We all know the Wikipedia is an accurate source of information.... but somebody needs to check the official KHSAA website for who won the 1977 KHSAA 4A state football championship.
There were two teams involved, Greenup County & Trinity (Louisville)......
Just sayin'.

The playoffs were differnt then. 4a was the largest class. The winner of 4a in the rest of the state was called 4a champion at large. Then that team would play the best Louisville school that year who was trinity in 77. This made GC state champ at large and Trinity state champ.

Let the record show that the KHSAA has Trinity (Louisville) listed as the 1977 Class 4A state football champion. And the term "At-Large" is not mentioned on this official KHSAA website document. This KHSAA document doesn't have any "At-Large" state champions listed for any season.
Furthermore, the Wikipedia page doesn't say "At-Large", it says Home of the 1977 Kentucky 4A state football champions.

If we are gonna award "At-Large" state championships....
JC has the 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011 "At-Large" state championships in 3A, 4A & 5A.
Loosing to Cov. Cath in 2006 (3A state champions)
Loosing to Ft. Thomas Highlands in 2008 (5A), 2009 (5A), 2010 (5A) & 2011 (4A)
All four of these seasons, HHS won the state title in their class.
So, congrats to JC for winning the "At-Large" state football champions 5 times over.
(Yes, I am kidding about this.... for those of you that have no sense of humor.)

10-03-2016, 07:48 PM
Since it was the "louisville champ" vs the "at large" in 4A.....then no JC would have have zero "at large" championships because those teams are from the Covington Area.......but ill excuse your misconception.
