Cabell Midland @ Belfry 9/30/16
#1
Belfry suffered a lost last year at the hands of Cabell Midland away. Belfry is coming off a tough lost from a very good Knoxville team. Cabell graduated a bunch and Maxpreps has them behind Mingo Central in ratings. Thoughts and predictions about the game, who you got and why?

Poor Cabell Midland.....

Belfry is coming off a loss, so you know they've had a tough week of practice, not to mention Cabell Midland beat Belfry last year.

I am not so sure about this....

People forget that least year Belfry also laid an egg against Lawrence County the game after getting beat thoroughly against Midland.

Belfry had a performance eerily similar to Catholic where they nearly lost to the Bulldogs due to fumbles and general bad execution with costly penalties.

I have seen a lot of posts about how "the fumbles were an one time thing" or "I feel bad for Midland"... but from what I have seen of Belfry teams this often is not a simple one week fix when they start having flaws exposed. In 2014 they were fortunate that the team they played after their two losses were weak.

Maybe they will prove me wrong, but I am worried that this week is going to be an absolute dog fight as Belfry has to reclaim their identity.

Belfry likely has some players from last year's Cabell Midland team so I'm picking the Pirates to win this one Confusednicker:

I'm going with belfry with the win but Cabell Midland has some fast receiver and I look for them to pass often
And try beat belfry over the top don't think Midland can run on belfry so I think you will see a lot of screen and short pass plays to bait belfry for the deep ball

Belfry 39
Midland 12

Good Luck to Belfry on Friday night. Here's to a good clean game and no injuries on either side. Just thought I would say that Midland has gotten better as the year has went on. They were ahead in all three of the games they lost this year. Stupid penalties have killed them so far. They have averaged about 400 yards rushing per game. They have 4 of the top 15 Running backs to date in WV. Should be a good game. This is the same o-line they had last year only losing the center. Again good luck and can't wait til Friday.

Sounds like it could be a BALL GAME!!!! Hopefully Belfry takes home the W!
#14
Cabell has three O lineman back one D lineman back and Duncan played in the defensive backfield and he plays halfback this year they got five guys back from last year but they are getting better each week this won't be a push over game at all and I expect us to hold on to the ball this week so it should be a good game

If Cabell is just a running team I will go with Belfry. If they pass then it's a toss up if Belfry don't send a linebacker to help put pressure. I don't care who you are its tuff beating a double team and even sometimes a triple team on the line. Belfry has to put pressure.

According to this site Midland was underdog last year. And according to what I've read we are again this year. Last year got got ugly as Midland ran up the score 49-7. So I'll take the Underdogs again.

I agree but Cabell don't have a QB like we seen last Friday and they definitely don't have a receiver like Rogers so i think our D line will have more time to get to the QB

Midland offensive line is pretty tough and sophomore running back is a beast I'm looking for a defensive battle Friday
#19
Mingo Central schedule is not nearly as tough as Midlands. I think it's gonna be a low scoring game

If Midland can't hit some big plays for touchdowns on Belfry then they are gonna be in for a rough game. If Belfry has anything you can call a weakness it is stopping the deep ball. They have great athletes back there but it is the only way I have seen Belfry give up points. I have no idea what Cabell has coming back but I gotta go with the Pirates on getting some payback for last year. Belfry 35-14.

I definitely agree on bringing pressure. I think the pressure will have to come off the edges though. That would take some of the double and triple teaming off of #44 and #23. both are getting beat to death. Once Adkins is healthy and can return, IMO he will provide much needed speed and another level of toughness to the back half of the defense.

As long as Belfry cleans up the penalties and turnovers....I believe they bounce back and come away with a victory. Nevertheless, champions are not crowned in October. In the grand scheme of things, this is just another game on our way to Bowling Green. These kids and certainly this staff have dealt with adversity in the past. There is NO WAY, a loss or two shakes these kids confidence. If people are thinking that....then they're simply dreaming. This is a tough, hard nosed group of kids who know exactly what it takes to bring home the hardware.

Win or lose Belfry will be fine.

I must agree with all of this. But I think half or more of the fumbles Belfry had were due to KC coaching. They discovered something to go a long way to beat Belfry - literally take the ball from them. It seemed runners were held up and others stripped at the ball. How else can a ball pop out for 20 yards unless someone got a shot-put grip on it?

To me, that is the definition of chicken-crap football (if I can't stop you, I'll just steal it). Of course it is not illegal in any way. It is seen in the pros every time someone can rip at it. I don't like that style, but it is legit.

Actually we have 4 returning OLine, Yes Duncan is back but there is also both returning Corners on D. One of which is in Blue Grey All American bowl. The RG on offensive line moved to center and the new Right guard is 6'6 330lb junior. Should be a good game.

Woke up with a bad feeling about this one.

Not feeling highly confident at all to be honest. By contrast I was feeling pretty optimistic last week so maybe that's a good thing though HAHA

I know Belfry is continuing to deal with some nagging injuries to key players who will still be going tonight, but more than anything I think you are seeing a Midland team that is finding their footing while Belfry is having to get off the mat some.

My ultimate concern is I think Midland does a good job neutralizing Belfry's greatest strength up front and as a result are able to make Belfry have to beat them playing three yards at a time between the tackles. Belfry's Offense is geared toward the big play more so this year, and I am afraid that when asked to be patient the Pirates' fumble bug has not fully healed and will make a re-appearance this week. I also worry that if asked to win this game 4 yards at a time that Belfry will continue their trend of penalties that now create a 2nd and 12 or 3rd and 8.

Defensively CM has some really nice pieces to go get the deep ball. They aren't exactly geared to pick a defense a part with timing routes, but they have a big, strong running game that opens up the deep ball and they do it well. I could see them hitting a couple deep throws whether by skill or by blown coverage. I also am worried that if those fumbles happen they can mount a couple drives on a short field and this gives them just enough points to pull it out.

Hope I am wrong..just a feeling.
