Both teams played a heck of a ball game tonight, Fairview made a couple more big plays towards the end. Fairview held a small lead for most of the game that got no bigger than six points. Ashland started the game leading 4-2 but Fairview quickly went on an 8-0 run that was sparked by two three pointers. But Ashland got right back into it as the tomcats used a run of their own to cut the lead to 12-11 at the end of one. In the next quarter Ashland led 14-13, and that was the last time they would lead for a while. Fairview built a 21-15 lead but it was quickly but back to 21-20, but on Fairview's next possession, a player nailed a three, and there was a foul away from the ball. Fairview got the ball back and scored again, making the score 26-20. Ashland kept their poise and hit two free throws to make it 26-22, and both teams would score once again before the half to make the halftime score 28-25, Fairview's lead. In the second half Fairview still kept a lead and lead as much as 35-30, but Ashland came back and tied it several times. In the fourth quarter, Tyler Reliford for Ashland (who had 8 on the night) scored on a drive and gave Ashland their first lead since they lead 14-13 in the second quarter. Ashland led at 44-42 then lead once again at 47-46, but that was the last time they would lead. Alex Barker and Cody Black hit some HUGE free throws down the stretch for Fairview as they took a 52-49 lead late. Ashland had the ball at halfcourt with about three seconds to go, but a Matt Thomas three hit the rim, and bounced out into the hands of adam cannoy, who tipped it in at the buzzer to make the final score 52-51.

Fairview moved the ball around offensively against Ashland's 2-3 zone, and played very patient. They did a great job of getting open shots and making the extra pass, and their interior passing game was impressive as well. When a team has a good interior passing game and unselfish players like Fairview, it makes them extremely hard to defend against. Also, Fairview hit their free throws during the game and in the final moments, and I can definitely tell that Coach Cooksey did an excellent job of getting that team prepared. As for Ashland, they played well tonight, they just didn't convert. They had a couple good looks at the basket and a chance to get the lead back in the final minute but they just didn't pull it off. They shot well from the line and made some big plays, but it just wasn't enough. On another note, Ashland center Brandon Williams went down late in the third quarter when he busted open a scab diving for the ball. He was taken back to the locker room and they bandaged it up, but he wasn't put back in the game. Anyways, Congrats to Fairview on winning their first 64th district championship and good luck in the regional tourney. I hope we meet again.

Congrats to Fairview!! Good finish for first year in the 64th! Good job for the Tomcats getting back into contention for a shot at the region! It has been a tough year for the Tomcats.
