Mayfield 35 Corbin 34
#1
Final
#2
Congrats to Cards
#3
Hounds had missed a couple PATs and went for 2 with around 3 minutes remaining. Trying to ride ole Mo for the win. Mayfield up 28-14 at half. Great game...

64 has to be feeling like he is cursed against Mayfield

Not quite enough tonight but year by year I feel like we are closing the gap on the top teams around the state. We got blistered by Mayfields O in the first half but made good adjustments and the 2nd half was a slugfest.

This stings a little. But taking down Belfry in late November would make me forget about it. lol

All Mayfield in the 1st half, all Corbin in the 2nd. Corbin scores 14 in 1st half on a blocked punt and an interception returned for a touchdown. The Red Hound O only managed 18 1st half yards and had 0 1st downs, while Mayfield's offense racked up 360 yards of offense and 28 points in the 1st half, but, due to the mishaps only led 28-14.. Mayfield scores an early TD in the 3rd quarter to go up 35-14 and seemed to have things well in hand, but, Corbin made some defensive adjustments and took advantage of another Cardinal mishap, a bad snap on a punt where the Hounds got the ball inside the Mayfield 10. and took it in and then it seemed Corbin's depth started taking control in the trenches. They were able to put up 2 more scores in the 4th qtr and had the momentum on their side and the Cards reeling.a bit. On Corbin's last score with still over 4 minutes in the game, opted to go for 2 and the win. While a gutsy call, I'm too sure about it. The D was playing lights out from the midway point of the 3rd qtr and going for the tie seemed to be the thing to do, but, high risk, high reward sometimes. just didn't pan out for the Hounds on this night. They did stop the Cards on their next possession and were moving the ball just inside Cardinal territory, but, a Mayfield int and a couple of 1st downs later and that was all she wrote. 2 really good, strong teams going at it tonight and both should have learned quite a bit about their teams and help them when playoffs roll around..

No running clock tonight.

Mayfield with Bright would beat Corbin 5 out of 5 times.

Is mayfield just getting wore down late, or are they losing focus when up big. This reminded me a lot of mccracken game. Owned the first half then had to hold on for dear life for a win. Congrats to the cards, and also to the redhounds for fighting there way back in the game late.

Good effort by the hounds to fight back. Many teams would and have laid done. Defense plays great first half but offense didn't show up til 3rd. Mayfield sent 7-8 every time and could becuase passes were being dropped. Couldn't get anything going first half really hurt. Redhounds showed a lot of heart and will improve.

I think teams with a little more depth start wearing Mayfield down late in games, more so than them losing focus. After the game, Coach Morris said he didn't feel like his kids were playing bad or unfocused, but, just couldn't get that rhythm back that they showed in the 1st half and he credited Corbin for making adjustments and said we just beat a really good football team. He also credited his kids for coming up big late with the interception and then being able to pick up a couple of 1st downs and being able to run out the clock, despite being pretty gassed late.

I'll tell you, a fresh Mayfield team is a scary site for opponents, both offensively and defensively, but, larger class teams with superior depth and less 2 way players will be an issue late in games sometimes, especially really good teams and especially when temps are in the high 80s and 90s.. Once the weather cools down, that becomes less and less a factor, which is a big reason it always seems like Mayfield gets stronger as the season wears on. To me, it's more the weather cools down and they start playing teams their own size and class and just appear to be improved.

It amazes me. We beat a top ten 6a team even with a late comeback and with our best corner on the sidelines hurt. We beat the #2 team in 3a with a late comeback after a long road trip in the heat. Then we hear all this about getting gassed in the end of games talk. Come on people. We gave up a 12 yard touchdown drive and a drive of 50 yards or so for a touchdown. Guys it had very little to do with being gassed, it was more about mistakes. We had a blocked punt for touchdown. We had a pick 6 on our offense. And we had a snap over the head of the punter setting up a 12 yard drive. That's not gassed defense. We will be fine. We are 6-0 and, if I was a betting man, I would say we will win 9 more in a row. Why do we have to always be half empty for us instead of the other way around. We beat a couple of top notch teams in close games. I would a lot rather have that than the alternative.

The reason everyone is saying mayfield was gassed is because they looked gassed. Hands on hips, heads hanging a little, slouching. That being said, the kids still dug deep. No one is questioning mayfields toughness or heart. Maybe those teams made the late comeback because mayfield was gassed. I honestly don't think that was the case. I think adjustments were the difference in the second half. And why Corbin won the second half 20-7. I like the call to go for two. Not only did we have two extra points blocked in this game, but they've been a struggle all year. All that being said, mayfield is a heck of a football team. I wish them the best of luck from here on out and hope that they have great success. I really wish the Bright kid could have played because I knew if it was anything other than a blowout for mayfield then that would be the excuse.

Great win any way you slice it especially with bright out.
#15
Bright is definitely a game changer, but it sounded like Tyler played very well. Any time you can have that many game changing mistakes, and still get a win verses a highly ranked undefeated team its a great day. Corbin really needs to step up there run d or it will get real ugly when they meet belfry.

Congratulations Mayfield I give up :igiveup::igiveup: you little fellas are good. I may need to start looking for a team next year in Louisville and Northern Kentucky area. This isn't good for my heart so for now on until we meet again I am officially a 2A Mayfeild fan.....And congratulations Corbin Redhounds on not giving up after the score was 35-14....When I looked up and the score was 35-34 and Corbin was going for 2 and maybe for the win, i ran up the stands and set right beside mysonis55 and said this is it " I GOT YOU " I don't remember much else except for all the headlights following me back to London..:truestory: 0-4 :insane:

Great game 64. This should help both teams. In the long run doesn't hurt anything just gave us something to talk smack about. Hope corbin makes a run. Mayfield has 3 easy games before they play a good team in Caldwell County who seems to be better than there record would suggest. All 3 games they lost where to larger class ranked teams, and the Franklin Simpson game was stopped at half. I think corbin will win out all the way to the semis. Unfortunately belfry is really good when they don't drop the ball 9 times.

I still think u kick the extra point and tie it...

Great win for the Bright-less Cards!

Uncharacteristic mistakes cost us a running clock.

I do think we wore down in the second half

Did the clock malfunction?

Sounds like it was everything it was billed for an more. Wish I could have been there to keep 64 from passing out a time or two.. congrats to hothouse teams.

64, your good buddy turned to me when they started the big comeback and wiped his brow like it's getting close. I told him no worry then. I knew the boys wouldn't let it go. It's just something in this bunch that wouldn't let it happen. If the hounds did get the two point conversion, you would have seen that offense respond. I kind of wish it had happened, so we could show that heart on display on the final game winning drive. I guess I will have to settle for it on that final defensive stand with the int and the way the o started driving to kill the clock.

W's and L's. This was a W. All teams get tired.

A 2 point conversion away from losing the lead with 3 min to go and you're still talking about a running clock. Lol.

This type of game will help both teams come November.

Spread, don't get your panties in a bunch. I think he was referring to the stupid mistakes we made. If we actually block someone on a punt, that's 6 points less for the red bone hounds. If we don't throw into triple coverage, that's 7 less points for the red bone hounds. If we don't snap the ball 10 feet over the punters head, that's 8 less points for the red bone hounds. Also if we don't try to run clock with 6 min left in the game and stay with the aggressive style offense we would have scored again. Besides that, if the red bone hounds had scored the 2 point conversion, it would have awakened the heart of the red birds and they would have seized the moment to win. That's just the way they play.
