I don't think this helps Knox as much as the faithful want to believe. They was already guard heavy with Carton, Adam's, and Martin. It's just taking shots and minutes from them. All 3 of them are better ball handlers and defensive players too. A dominant big guy is what would really set a team apart in the 13th this year. Everyone has been looking, and is nowhere to be found. Lol.

Knox had a nice addition and a big loss with Marsee graduating.
Corbin and Harlan County didn't lose anyone, and South still has a very good team back from a state semifinal appearance.
Liford also plays guard, so KC will have to move some people around in the backcourt.

I thought Knox was a point guard away from being the best team in the region last year. HCS your right losing Marsee was a big loss. As for the new addition its early, let's wait to the first week in Dec. to see who everybody has. There still alot of time left for in home recruiting visits.

Yep, their guards were inconsistent last year. They looked like a real good team at times, but then I saw them at Leslie last year and they were barely a top 10 team. Of course, everyone has bad games.
I don't know if a good point guard could have made the difference against South as well as they were playing late, but it couldn't have hurt.
It will be interesting to see how the rotation shapes up. I thought they tried to play too many early last year.
Knox has had some very good teams the last few years. I had them No. 1 when those guards were seniors a couple of years ago.

I'm sorry Knox had the best team in the region for several years and couldn't win anything. You could give them the 5 best players in the region and they would still somehow find a way to lose. The region is Harlan County's to lose.........especially if the region returns to Harlan and not The Arena.

I doubt you will find anybody that will disagree with you. Knox Central has probably wasted more talent than anybody else in the region. We are kinda like you guys in football we kinda hope they will get it right by accident if they hire enough coaches.

Who did Knox Central get as a transfer?
08-16-2016, 03:55 AM
Knox Central will probably win it. They went from 8th to 2nd in one summer, with the addition of one kid. Look out this Patterson can coach. Also with wins over some of our regions best coaches with talent last year with kids that never seen the varsity floor in the years past with the exception of Marsee.
08-16-2016, 03:57 AM
BUT if Harlan co. gets the region at Harlan Co. it could be interesting. Go bears.
08-16-2016, 03:59 AM
Knox Central will probably be ranked fifth in the preseason polls.
Marsee and Wells both started for KC two years ago. Liford started for Barbourville. They all saw the floor quite a bit.

There is no way Knox wins the region this year.....Harlan is the favorite...Corbin will be there just because Taylor is the best player in the region.....South will still be good and have a shot....and North has the talent to win it but you never know what you are going to get with North.
08-16-2016, 02:22 PM
I am going with South repeating as regional champ.
08-16-2016, 02:25 PM
A lot depends on who is playing well at the end, but I think five teams have a great shot at winning. There's no way to count out any of those five at this point, in my opinion.
08-16-2016, 08:51 PM
Each team has obstacles in front of them. North and Harlan's (what appears to be) terrible schedules may come back to bite them in the post season. (Not saw Corbins yet.) Corbin's biggest issue is playing a one man game. I don't think that will ever get you out of a region no matter how good the player is.
Knox has the talent as usual, but until they prove they can make a run, it's hard to bet on them. South will have to learn to play without a 6'9" post presence on defense, and have to rebound and limit teams to one shot. Unlike last year, this year really is up in the air. I believe everyone realized it was a 2 horse race last year, with several other good teams capable of a upset. I just wished we could bypass football and head straight into basketball. Lol.

None of Knox's kids played Varsity time together until they took the floor last year. I'm saying it again. Athletes + a great coach finally = wins. I hope I'm wrong because I love my bears.

:insane:
The other 3 or 4 teams with a real shot, also have athletes who have played a lot of varsity minutes and even more proven coaches. Tony may end up a great coach, but it's hard to label someone a great coach with 1 year of high school coaching and some grade school coaching experience. They definitely have the pieces for a region title contender, but you kinda have to wait and see with them.

LMAO. You got me. They had 2 kids that have played together before on the varsity level on the same floor at the same time. O and KC won that one. I sense a tad of hostility toward KC.

Not at all, just getting the fact straight after you indicated I didn't know what I was talking about.
I put the score at the top. Why would I have hostility toward KC. I picked KC to win the region three years ago.

I think Corbin has as good a shot as any.
The Taylor kid will drop 40 on more teams in the region.

Corbin may get browning back this year plus the other kid who was hurt most of last year. Those 2 would really help.

South will be very hungry to get back to state after letting that final four game slip away..

If you're referring to Trevor Browning, he graduated over a year ago. And the kid who got hurt and missed all of last year graduated also.

Hopkins & barnes are the names.

As far as I know, the KHSAA stopped allowing a fifth year for injury about 20 years ago. I remember several cases of that happening in the 1980s.
That would open it up for a lot of players, especially football, who are injured to get an extra year if that rule is changed.

You can apply for a 5th year to khsaa because of injury or illness that keeps a kid from receiving proper academics but it is seldom approved. It can not be just because he/she missed a season of basketball etc.
