Mayfield of course, Danville and LCA...but make sure you keep an eye on Prestonsburg...even-though there is drama in Tinseltown, the Blackcats have been having a pretty good offseason...

We did have 34 freshman come out for football this year. Pretty healthy number. Guys are working hard. A lot of size on this team again.
As far as the ranking go, I'll go with..
1. Mayfield (Champs until someone beats them)
2. CAL (Returns stud qb)
3. DeSales (Can be really good this year. But I like the underdog role)
4. NCC (Kings of the east, until someone can knock them off)
5-10 Doesn't matter.
Bout right but Danville and Owensboro Cath need to be mentioned.

I think Mayfield will be as fast or faster this year overall than any year in the past. 3 of our linebackers attended a camp recently. Their 40 times were 4.66, 4.68 & 4.73. The one that didn't go may be the fastest of all 4 linebackers. I know we have several running backs, recievers and db's that are faster but that is pretty impressive. CAL has a fast reciever and qb also.

I would love to watch CAL or DeSalrs beat Mayfield.

Well... The semis should run through Louisville this year. Whether it be at CAL, or DeSales.

Well, have we got a little hating going on? "I would love to see a private school beat the smaller public school." Sounds like someone's still butt hurt.

The game will be played in Louisville but the State Title runs through Mayfield.

I think CAL wins 2A this year they have a really good team.

CAL may be the favorite to take it all this year, should they get that Desales monkey off their backs.. While Mayfield should also be strong, especially defensively, they do have to travel from the 3rd round on this year and having the luxury of playing in your own backyard could prove to be the difference this year because I feel all 3 of these teams will be very similar talent wise..

Cal very well could win it all. They do have some good talent back. Can't wait to welcome them to DeSales on 10/7. We both have strong schedules leading up to that game. If I was CAL, I might re-think my approach to that game, and lose that regular season match-up

Mayfield is the favorite and should be since they return the most
I like CAL at 2, DeSales or Danville next

If CaL can win against de sales in the playoffs then I will give them the nod. Desales has there number when it matters... Then when u do that u get an even bigger monkey to a team that has made it to the state finals 7 years in a row..so 1 big hurdle to an even bigger one.....

I noticed NewCath has Drew Bravard on their roster he played for Highlands last year DL/LB he should help them alot.

I agree, Mayfield should be the favorite, but, I still say the talent level between the 3 will be pretty even.. Desales has such a bigger pool of players to choose from, I don't think what Mayfield returns will be head and shoulders over them and CAL, while they don't quite have as big a pool to choose from, returns enough to play toe to toe with either. OB Cath loses quite a bit, too, but, they always reload and won't be a pushover either.. The west will once again be loaded.. I think the west will have the Top 4 teams in 2a:
1) Mayfield
2) CAL
3) Desales
4) OB Catholic
5) LCA
6) Danville
7) NCC
8) Cov Holy Cross
9) Somerset
10) Butler Co

Your over looking Holy Cross and NewCath big time. NewCath has made it to the State Finals 4 years in a row and will probably make it again if they can beat Holy Cross.

With the way things are shaping up, this is what I see as top ten:
1) Mayfield
2) DeSales
3) CAL
4) NCC
5) LCA
6) Owensboro Cath
7) Danville
8) Butler County
9) Cov Holy Cross
10) Somerset
I know, I know, you are going to say I'm a homer. But, I'm telling you this could be a team as good or possibly even in the discussion to be better than the 2010 Cards. You cannot underestimate the value of the return of Hatchell to OC. The Cards have steadily seen their offensive output dwindle since his departure after the 2013 state championship. Remember, he led the offenses that scored 47, 55 & 42 in 3 of the state championships he coached in. Then you add in the fact that our defensive guru says this may be the best defense he has coached since he came back in 2009. The question mark is the kicking game. But, if you can't move the ball on the defense, it really won't matter if you start at your 20 or the 50.

NewCath and Holy Cross winner wins state!

UK, why don't you just come out and say "anyone but Mayfield wins state"? So far you have picked CAL, DeSales, Holy Cross and NCC. Sounds personal. I just simply state what I see, not being emotional about it.

He hates great programs. He constantly bashes highlands on here.

If NewCaths running back was 100% against Mayfield in the state game they would have beat Mayfield.

Don't underestimate NCC they have a very good team and they could very well win 2A this year

I looked at Mayfields roster on Maxpreps and they only 34 kids? Not a lot of size either I don't think they win it this year.

You obviously know very little about mayfield.

Mayfield was the smallest team I saw play last year and will probably be the smallest team I will see play this year and Mayfield will still win 2A :truestory: Speed,Speed and Speed.

LOL.. The score may have been respectable, but, never for a minute of that game did I think Mayfield was threatened or in jeopardy of losing. They played too many games throughout the year that very same way. Get up a score or 2 and turn it over to the defense to protect it and they would do it. Against lesser opponents there offense would get a bigger lead, but, against the better teams they played, their D is what won there games. They may give up a big play somewhere along the way, but, rarely did they give up more than that one. NCC made 1 long pass they scored on, other than that, they never picked up more than 1 or 2 1st downs in any drive or came close to scoring. Same thing against OB Cath, Desales, Corbin, Murray, Tilghman and Graves.

It always amazes me. The last 7 years in a title game. Mayfield has won 4 in a row and 5 of last 6. But, every year, after we win it, we here how no one was impressed. The idea is not to impress anyone. The idea is not to out gain anyone in yardage. The idea is to look up at that scoreboard when it 0:00 and see that you have more points than the opponent. That is what Mayfield does. Then everyone else can hang their hat on ifs. If we didn't have so many penalties. If we didn't have so many turnovers. If our back was at full strength. So, this year when it's all said and done this year as long as we have more points you all can have your ifs.

34 players surely we will dress more than that weve had close to 60 players each of the last 2 years weve been in AA have our numbers dwindled that much im worried if it has.

Maxpreps does have only 34 listed, but they don't have any of the incoming freshman listed, so those numbers may be fairly accurate for just the upper 3 grades. Besides I put little stock in a site that has mayfield playing McCracken county, and heath simultaneously on this year's and last year's schedule. How do you put a team as playing 2 teams at the same time on a schedule, especially when 1 of the teams hasn't existed in 4 year's.

The question I have is 2A the best class from top to bottom as far as quality teams?
