RUMOR---Johnny Martin Fired as Allen Central Head Coach??
#1
I'm not trying to start anything just trying to confirm it. But Rumers have circulated around the 15th region that Johnny Martin has been fired(will not be hired back) as coach at Allen Central.

I know Allen Central has won only 8 games in two seasons, and their last winning season was the 2002-2003 season. But I never expected this if it is true. He has been there a long time.

Can anyone who follows ACHS basketball confirm this.

Thanks.

not heard this 1

If he is fired it would almost be as bad as Indiana letting Bob Knight go or if Duke let Coach K go. You don't simply fire the man that is AC basketball. I hope it's not true, he's a class act and has just fell on hard times at AC with talent. I'm sure in time AC will be back towards the top in basketball.
#4
I'm pretty certain that is 100% true. I think Johnny Martin will end up entangled in an ultimatum, with the options being simple, retire or be fired. It's like Burger King, he gets to have it his way.
#5
I hear this every year. Usually though it's that Johnny is stepping down. But like jkwon said, it would be a horrible idea to fire him. It's not his fault the talent level has been subpar the past couple of years. He is still one of the best coaches in the 15th region imo.
#6
Watching AC play just wouldn't feel right without seeing Martin on the bench or floor.
#7
I've heard this as well several times, the Last winning season they had was when Mike Slone and Neil Allen were seniors I believe and thats been about 3 years ago but thay haven't had as much talent since then to compete and I'd hate to see him go like that. The 15th Region will not be the same without Coach Martin. I hope this is only rumers, but if not I'm sure he'll have plenty of oppertunities to coach again.

i hope this isnt true.....

Coach Johnny Martin should be able to leave when he says its time. Coach K, Bobby Night or anybody else could not have had a winning season in the last two years. He deserves to set his own time to depart

Good Post!

I hope this isn't true... he is a great coach and doesn't deserve this
#12
I've been told he's fired, and his replacement will be another coach within the 58th...

The only coach I see leaving their job to take another job in the 58th would be Brent Rose. Could it be?

Another Assistant or Head Coach.

Or what about Jack Pack(PHS Girls coach).
#15
I heard the Roadies Delivery Man (Donnie) was going to get the job. this may just be a rumor though
#16
Wow if he is fired it will be a huge suprise to me. He doesn't deserve this and it just wouldn't be right with him not coaching. He should determine when he wants to retire, he has earned that much.
#17
If there is no firm confirmation, I am tagging this as rumor.
And we really shouldn't further rumor when dealing with folks lives.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I will say this: Does the rumored firing have to do with the teams record over the last 2 years or does it relate to the Prestonsburg /Coach Martin incident discussed in another thread on here?

Also, Coach Ronnie Patton led the Rebels to a 15th region title. He was let go soon after.

I believe that it was Baseball that Ronnie Patton coached AC to 15th a Championship. Unfortunately, these local high schools change baseball coaches like I change shoes, about once a year. But, more importantly I hope this is not true. He deserves better treatment :Hammer3:  than this. (Johnny Martin)

IF so that is a stupid move, very good coach in Martin.

Good post. You would think that the administration and SBDM of Allen Central would treat Coach Martin with more respect than to let rumors run rampant and give vague answers to questions asked by the media.

When asked about the status of Johnny Martin before Allen Central's contest with Betsy Layne this week, the principal told me that, "his status will be evaluated at the end of the season." When asked if there was a closed door meeting concerning the status of Martin at Allen Central last week, she answered "yes" and wouldn't elaborate on the issue.

There are a ton of rumors swirling and it would be irresponsible to spread those around on the internet or anywhere else. But I would say this. The administration of Allen Central should have more respect for a man who has given 26 years of service to continue a winning tradition of basketball. He has been a consistent winner and is currently in a rebuilding mold.

However, as in anything else that goes on in Floyd County, there is a little group of people that want to be bosses and they are making the noise and those who support Johnny are just listening. If you don't like what's happening at Allen Central, call the administration and voice your opinion. Attend a SBDM meeting.

Don't let this situation be another example of "little Cuba", a dictator running the show with no say from anyone else.

I'm behind you Johnny. So are many others.

Yes- Ronnie Patton did coach the Baseball team to the 15th region title.

There was some speculation that Coach Martin's possible firing was due to the less than stellar seasons that AC has recently had. My point was- the same administration fired Ronnie Patton and he coached the baseball team to a 15th region title that year. So apparently a successful season does not assure you any job security.

I think Johnny Martin is AC baskebtall. It would be a shame to let him go.

I agree. This guy should step down when he's ready. Good luck coach.

Look at what all this man has done for the AC basketball team, the school, and the community. So what if they are down for 2 years, with his style of play and talent coming up there is no doubt in my mind that they will be contenders soon. Bear Bryant had his hat, Coach Knight has his sweater vest, and Coach Martin has his fleece pants, you don't end tradition of a coach by letting them go after so long. He's earned enough respect hopefully from the school and its members to stay how long he wants. If they do let him go, I hope he catches on at another 15th school and he comes back and shoves it in their face, this has to be the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. I think some people in the Beaver Creek area need to make a petition to keep this man there, not only for them but for all 15th basketball fans. You make one up and tell me where to sign, I'll gladly go first!!!

If anyone is sincerely interested in getting a petition started- I would suggest having it available at the 58th District Championship Games this week. Think of the number of people that would be present. The girls championship game tonight would be a good place to start.

Things need to be moving quickly before the hammer swings. Call the school. Call the SBDM. Make some action and get behind coach Martin.

Don't let a small group of little bosses dictate what happens at Allen Central.

Johnny Martin deserves a hell of a lot more respect than what he has been receiving these past few years. Allen Central obviously doesn't have the talent that they've had in years past, and that will happen from time to time at any school. I feel the administration at AC has been trying for a long time to try and make Martin do something that will get him in trouble, and he hasn't done a thing (maybe except for a few technicals every now and then, but for Johnny that's normal). I think they have just had enough of something that obviously no one else sees. We all see class, basketball genious, tradition, and flying jackets when we look at Johnny, and the "dictatorship" must see something else. They need to open their eyes and really see what they could possibly be letting go. We all love you Johnny, and are behind you 110%!!!!!!!

First let me say...from an outsiders point of veiw...I'm a big Coach Martin fan....it impossible to know everything surrounding the beginning of a rumor. Normally, where there's smoke there's fire though.

Also, coaching any sport at any school pays only a small part of the overall compensation package. Maybe 15%-20% at the very most.

It may be something totally unrelated to his coaching performance altogether...it might have more to do with his performance as a faculty member.
I don't have a clue what Coach Martin teaches.

I guess what I am trying to say is that people should not circulate rumors that could profoundly the livlihood of others. Especially, if the basis for the rumor is unsubstantiated in the first place.
