Middlesboro 2016
NextGeneration Wrote:Thanks for the advice, what I am trying to do is teach him that their are consequences to actions. You might say the opposite of what is being taught here. How can I say half truths, I have not put anything on here about what happened.

Why do you think this school system has lost 12 or more teachers in 2years? Can not get any assistant coach to come in. Teachers are leaving in groves.

There is no discipline in school or team. That is FACT..

I can tell you that is NOT the case. Its funny to me everyone i ask is actually saying just the opposite. thats both players and coaches. And can't get any assistants haven't they hired 3 new ones over the last year?
Look at the jobs posted and that will tell you it IS the case.

I should have clarified, assistant from outside. The good ole boy assistants from here are the new ones. That do not teach school. For 6 months have had assistant job posted and not one hired from outside. Believe what you want, just look at the postings.

That is the truth at the County school as well. Nobody wants to work for these people that control the 2 school systems. That will all be reflected come election time.
When will you guys vote on these positions?
3 spots are up this next election. Several are very happy with a few of the announcements of the ones running.

How many school systems this size has 14 jobs posted? That is for this year. 3 Schools in the entire system.

WOW, you got a point, a school system that size and that many opening each year, something is not right. Happy people do not pack up and leave like that. Is it true that some teachers send their kids to Bell, JF White and Cumberland Gap schools? That is another sign of not being right.
I have to agree, that is a lot of jobs.
Jesus people. You all have got to get over this obsession you have with Middlesboro athletics. On and on and on about the same old things. Quite sad really. While I won't address the pages and pages of mudslinging, I will say that so many of you that are "positive" of the happenings, are obviously only aware of partial truths.

Those of you trying to bring the whole school down, take a look at how MHS has done on their accountability scores. Not bad for a school that is supposedly in shambles.

As far as the teachers leaving at MHS, do you all even have a clue about why they left? I mean truly.

Frazier (Health) - understandably left to accept coach/teaching position at Whitley.
Sowders (Science) - accepted Curriculum Specialist position at MMS.
Digby (Math) - husband graduated from LMU DCOM. Moved for residency.
Powell (Science) - was accepted the UK dental school.
Bleichechmidt (Science) - completed his 3 year term under Teach for America program.
Carter-Stone (Spanish) - completed her 3 year term under Teach for America program and returned to UK for PhD program.
Hoskins (Youth Career Connect Counselor) - accepted special education position at MMS.

A lot of departures but none are just fleeing the system.

As far as teachers sending their kids to other schools, that is also a situation none of you know about apparently. One teacher, recently divorced from wife, allowed their child to live with wife and attend school in Tennessee in order to receive the Hope scholarship. Other than that instance, I can't think of a single teacher in the middle school or high school that sends their kid elsewhere. Enrollment at MHS increased last year in the face of a declining population.

Finally, I know Frazier's ending was a bit abrupt and unexpected. I have always liked the man. Regardless, he is not the coach anymore and Coach Massengill is. You all can say whatever you want but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is doing things the right way. Anyone that has followed Middlesbork sports for the last 10 years could have told you that this year's graduating class was quite possibly the lightest group of athletes in decades. There will be a slight rebound this year and should be a great situation in two.

Just my two cents.

Fact? Interesting. Or perhaps its that those who do the disciplining in the school actually abide by the law and keep it to themselves rather than blabbering about it on social media/forum. I guess that standard for saying "that is a FACT" is much lower than it used be when it had to actually be backed up with some type of verifiable data and not just a grumpy ole bleacher pop's opinion.

I also laughed out loud when I saw the list of Bell County dads, former coaches, and sour MHS dads that liked your comment.
Back from retirement MHS parent. You sir, are full of half truths and misleading facts for years. Give us some baseball stats.

If you knew half of what you thought you knew about what goes on here, you would be believable. Sit back and watch everything unfold, elections are coming. I looked at why you left the site and it appears many were telling you what was going to happen and when it did you left. You will leave again

Being a diehard Jacket fan, perhaps I was more optimistic than realistic before last season. Perhaps I thought too much of the players we had and didn't realize just how empty our upper classes were. Even then, it wasn't about dodging any heat on here about my predictions, it was about staying away from negativity.

I know everything that you might possibly know surrounding this program. Period.
No you don't . Read PM
I just guessing here but if you have a position open and you fill it in house would not that mean someone left to begin with. Middlesboro is not creating positions,mI know that from talking to Super.
Teach America teachers can stay if they want to. So they are leaving? MHS parent the more you say you are proving their point.

That is usually how it works.

Highly unlikely that they ever stay. The only one that is truly leaving was from Minnesota. After his full 3 years, he and his wife didn't just leave Middlesboro, they moved to Boise, Idaho to be closer to friends. This whole state must be failing I suppose.
Keep making excuses. Election can not get here fast enough.

Some good points in the entire post. I said a few years back Middlesboro was in for some lean years with what I saw in middle school.
I think "great situation" in two years is a little strong, but they should be better, perhaps quite a bit better. Their freshmen in basketball were the best players on the team. There are some pretty good sophomores in football and baseball.

The Curriculum specialist position is brand new. The special education position at MMS that Hoskins accepted was left vacant by an 83 year old retiree.
I first posted 12 in two years so I wil;l safely say that with this 14 that there were 20 in two years. We can say 12 this year.
I thought this was about football?
Ray Ray is staying at Bell Co. Middlesboro will go 0-11 this season.
And Middlesboro has shut down a whole school and now the Middle School is 5th through 8th. Our school system is going to shambles. Most of them are going to Yellow Creek now then to Bell High. County is just flat out better.
Looks like they are back at it again, MHS Parent please tell everyone about the right way.
This may be the first time that I am truely embarrassed to say I am an alumni of MHS. What this administration is doing to people of our community and system is against everything I believe in. I have no reason to feel this way, but I would just like to say , Sorry on behalf of all that do not believe this is the way you treat people. This coach and principal is among the participating parties. Superintendent and board members have to go.
I will bite, what happened this time? MHS Parent tends to cover somethings up.
MHS Parent must be on a vacation. Last week a special called board meeting to combine a job and increase the pay of the AD. Passed , while they made comments of all the work and long hours put in as AD. Hours after it passed Steve Martin posts the job on the school postings. Not only did he not even speak with the AD , he never even told him that he was fired. Our AD did a wonderful job, helped all sports and he finds out that he is fired after seeing it in postings. He went from thinking he was getting a raise , to be fired without a word from any of the administration. Coach Spangler was a life long Jacket and worked hard at what he done. Others played a role and when the hire to replace him is made it will come to light. If this system is concerned with how the sports programs are doing look no further than Steve Martin. Time for him to be replaced. The principal should be next, has just sit back and done nothing for his employees. Soon, people will see who else played a role. Good people continue to get hurt at our school. The way this administration handles things is embarrassing for the alumni. I for one will do my part in the up coming elections. Coach Spangler , you are as good as they come, good luck and thanks.
I have always loved and respected Middlesboro. Even when they had lean years, the fans always would support the kids and do an excellent job.

If what NextGen says is even remotely close to the truth, then it's a real shame what's happening there.

Good luck Jackets! This Black Bear is rooting for you!!

Granny, I really do wish it was not true. I will send you the email by PM sent to everyone by Coach Spangler. He tells most of the story and after talking to him it is much worse than I put on here. This good ole boy buddy system is out of control here. The board has given the super a raise every year, the super turns around and hires his buddies and their sons for jobs. They are in this to get as much as they can for themselves. I have supported the principal until now. He is either scared or in bed with them. Either way he needs to be a man. One would have thought the military and pulpit would have helped in this manner. But he has not stood up for his employees, he has had several chances to do so. For me , what they have done to Coach Spangler is the last straw for him as well.
