Who has the best upcoming talent at the middle school level for girls in The 14th?

The Caudill kid from Hazard and the 2 guards from Perry looked good this year.

Leslie has a couple young girls, Mullins and Meyers girl.. Thought Meyers could have got a little more PT but that's why I'm in the stands.

If Meyers is the lefty, the kid can shoot. I watched Mullins when she was in Knott. She is the best passer for her age that I've ever seen. If Leslie has any size in those underclassmen they could be good for awhile.

Very few kids improve in high school. Social life takes over for everyone but the select few. Those select few will improve.

I agree, Ive seen it at several different places in last couple yrs. Jackson County had a monster Middle school team couple yrs ago but like you said almost all were holdbacks and had really topped out. Saw same thing at Stinnett in Leslie few yrs ago which I think included the left handed girl for Leslie mentioned in an earlier post.

I may sound like a homer but none of Owsley's girls are holdbacks. 2 best players are still 12 yrs old and in 7th grade. You will hear about them in the next few yrs.

Well at least they had some Middle School success. Just because you don't stay back, doesn't mean you are gonna end up better than someone that did. They are always gonna be a year older and a year smarter than you. The problem with girls in this area is that most of them don't lift weights or do anything to get better. They get with High School coaches that don't push them to get any better. You have to get out and do things on your own and not depend on anyone else to push you. I know Larry Caudill and Steve Hall are gonna do every thing possible to make their girls continue to get better and better. If they top out early and quit growing, then they will find other ways for them to get better. Like you said, social life takes over. Love, peer pressure, and sometimes burn out. The Best that want it the most that work the hardest will be the most successful. Way its always been. And someone is jealous of you Dez. Keep on working hard girl!!!! You are a very impressive player.

I've see the group from Owsley boogie is referring to. Didn't know they didn't have any holdbacks. Watching them they play above their age, skill wise. They had a lefty point guard and a big girl inside that were very talented. Had a couple of nice wings. Don't remember them having a weak spot on floor. Very quick, handled ball well, and ran the floor well from what I've seen.

No disrespect to anyone , that was just an example , that I could think of at the time I posted, I bleed gold an blue too! It has just been one of the topics here for a while! To be honest I don't think there's very few girls I can pick out in a crowd, I go to watch the bull dogs an cheer for my granddaughter!

I agree and disagree with bulldog4ever. The kids that put in the work are typically the kids that succeed.Whitney Creech great example.Got better every year.I think the high school coaches job is to make the team better. As a player you have to own your development during the offseason. In the new age of AAU the high school coach is mostly taken out of the summer game.

That high school coaches don't push them to get better. Not sure the highschool coach has the time needed during the offseason due to all the AAU nowadays. You and I are probably both old school, were the high school coach worked you almost year round. Just not the case these days.

According to KHSAA, Hazard looks to have a good sophomore class and Perry has a deep freshman class.

Ur right my Bulldogs r looking good for the future! Now our arch rival has a ton of incoming freshmen , an with that many there is going to be Atleast 2 or 3 who will be very good.

I just feel like if you are going to have a really good team, you have to find ways to spend time with your players year around. Especially the ones that are not playing softball. I think if I was Perry Centrals coach, I would of got a guy like Larry Caudill to coached my girls during the off season and ran my AAU program with only Perry County kids. No way I'd let a guy like him go and take his kid to Hazard. And the same things goes for Harold at Hazard. I'd find me some person that is not an assistant coach to my high school program to run me and AAU program and only play Hazard kids. Times have changed. Kids are more specialized now. If you don't get with the times, its just hard to compete. Not disrespecting anyone so don't get the wrong idea about my posts. Just think both girls programs could be better. I think both teams have really good coaches. I think when you have won 1000 games, you are doing something right. I know this region has never been very strong either but winning is winning. Just feel like our girls in this area are just as good as anyone else's but they are going to have to put in more work and get more experience playing at higher levels. Maybe then, they can make some noise at the State Tournament where it matters the most.

U can have better talent! But we had better talent last year than Pcc an we still got beat. So is it a coaching issue or more a player issue ! Everyone's little girl can't be the star an if u have a bunch of those then ur lost before the season starts! All kids must have roles an if they take those roles an do them the best they can , then u can be sucessful, ask the Villanova Wildcats!!

Don't think you can compare the Villanova Wildcats to whatever team you are talking about Hillbilly Cat. Those are D1 athletes, not little high school kids.

Don't know what you mean by everyones little girl but I can say this, Caudills girl is the best player on the Hazard team. Watched them play several times. She may even be the best player at Perry Central if she went there.

All parents think there kids should be the start an should play! An the wildcats learned there roles on there team an became sucessful because of it , no mater what level of basketball u play there have be role players who can rebound play defense an make free throws if I don't have that u can't win in regional play an go to state period!

I had forgot about the Profitt kid, put her, Caudill and Hall together and they could compete with any region. From reading the other posts I guess the Caudill guy wasn't going to be part of the PCC coaching staff.

That's a pretty big statement. There are other guard combos in 14th that would be in that discussion. Owsley and Leslie would both have something to say about that.

A lot of players who live in leatherwood area go to hazard. So it's no surprise to me that we got that girl to play for us.
