Lawrence County vs Louisville Doss (3/17)
#1
Thoughts an prediction I'm going with the Dawgs in this one.
LC 72
Doss 66
#2
Don't know a lot about Doss other than they are a man team. Looking at the brackets LC got a good draw. The way that core 5 can score LC has a legit shot to get into Sat where anything can happen if you get the hot hand.
This is where I think you have to tip your cap to Coach York. Lawrence Co played a barrage of games over a 2.5 week span vs some big teams like Trinity, Christian Co (I think). That kind of scheduling prepares you better for what they're about to be a part of next week.

Doss easily wins this by 15 plus.

Going to ride the eastern,Kentucky bandwagon all the way. This should be a high scoring game. :Cheerlead

Lawrence County 84
Louisville Doss 81

I've watched LC play 3 times this year. They struggle defensively. Very lazy on that end of the court. The close games they won were do to just out scoring their opponent. A lot of bad teams put up a lot of points against them. Doss by 8.

Lawrence County.

I said early in the season that LC will be playing on Sweet 16 Saturday.

Lawrence county gets by doss they will win the whole thing. They seem to play up or down according to the talent they play. Not the perfect way but they are not the golden state warriors they are a high school team with as good a starting five as their is in the state. This team is as good as the paintsville, shelby valley or ashland teams that won it all. Remember I didnt say better but as effective. I played on the very first Lawrence co team and this team is by far the best. coach York has done a great job. This team reminds me of joe hall when he won his first title. It was either win it all or bust. I say enjoy every second ask God to help you play your best and by golly the dawgs could win it all. always remember buster douglas knocking out Mike tyson. No sure thing Gary clay I wrote it so i sign my real name. go dawgs

and I would just about bet that if those kids had any other jersey on besides Lawrence County you would probably feel differently. Probably wouldn't be picking Doss to beat them by 15 either. :eyeroll:

Shelby Valley and Paintsville were both top 5 teams for the majority of the year and had beaten multiple ranked teams on their route to a state title. Both had D1 players. If they had any other jersey on I would still be a rational human being and say that they don't compare to those teams. They don't compare to a majority of the best teams ever from the 15th. Ask anybody that is unbiased and they will agree. To say otherwise you make yourself look extremely ridiculous.

You could also ask anybody that is unbiased about the fact that any post you make that involves LC is always something negative. That is the only reason I said what I said previously. I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinions but you really make it a point to show your disdain for LC and I wonder if it is the fans, the county itself or the kids that really seem to get your panties twisted in a knot?

Lawrence County has a great starting 5, I'll give them that. But your right. If I'm correct Paintsville even had a Mr.Basketball back then too just like Valley. Justice signed with Louisville and I believe another signed with Translyvania. I believe it was Ashley Hatfield. The two new some kids had some D3 teams looking at them and Varney was considered a Top notch Pitcher. Idk if he went on to play in college but he was pursuing it. Plus they had a bench. Unlike Lawrence. I wasn't old enough during the Paintsville Era to really know for sure what their names was but had a few D1 kids. Lawrence is a great team. But don't put them higher then they need to be.

The 1996 Ashland JV team would beat this LC team by at least 25. The Paintsville team that won it all would dominate them by at least 40. No answer for Vanhoose. Not taking anything away from LC this season but that comparison is a little off don't ya think?

Vanhoose, Tackett, M. Ratliff, C. Ratliff, Adams, McKenzie.....

The '95/'96 Paintsville team (AS MUCH AS IT KILLS MY SOUL TO SAY THIS) is the best team in Kentucky high school basektball in history.

Well they do make themselves pretty hard to cheer for. It's pretty apparent I'm a JC fan but I didn't graduate from there. I've had bad experiences with LC players, fans, and even coaches my whole life. They're hard to like. Say what you will.

Because I don't praise everything about them or say that they are better than teams that they are obviously not better than doesn't mean I have something against them. My belief is that the region was the weakest it's been in years this year, that this team is nowhere near as good as most regional championship teams from the 15th, and yes the fans make it very difficult to support them in anyway. Saying things like they are just as good as 2010 SV or 1996 Paintsville is absurd. Sorry.

You'd be hard pressed to find a team better than the 1996 Paintsville Tigers -- especially in the mountains.

the 96 Paintsville team was good...they won the first two games by the skin of their teeth, then torn LexCath a new one on Saturday morning then beat a solid Ashland team Saturday night. This team had a 3000 point scorer with more than 2000 rebounds that was named the 1998 Mr. Basketball. Tackett scored over 2000 points, I believe Craig Ratliff was over or at least near 2000 points and McKenzie was a 1500 scorer. Matt Ratliff was the floor leader that did all the things that no one ever talks about. Adams was the sixth man and he could fill in for anyone, Mike Short also played and was a good ball handler and could score when needed.

Part of this group went on the finish 3rd in 97 and the runner-up in 98...plus they made a one and done showing in 95. I've watched LC play this year and they are good, but considering the competition the 96 PHS team played and their size LC wouldn't have a chance. The 15th region was down this year. LC was the best and they showed it, but in 96 I could name three or four teams that would have beat them...Magoffin County, Prestonsburg, Johnson Central, Pikeville and maybe another one or two. They all had something LC doesn't have...an inside game with players that could dominate.

Outside of LC, JCHS and Magoffin would be my top three. None of those three could hold the jocks of the 96, 97 and 98 PHS teams. I don't know if a lot of you remember the 96 team, but when they traveled and walked in a gym, the got ten points. They came dressed in shirts and ties, matching blazers and khaki pants, they looked good, played hard and won it all.

Oh one last thing...the seven guys I named, ALL SEVEN graduated from college.

Difficult to compare a regional winner to state tournament champions. I saw first hand Paintsville and Shelby Valley and have seen Lawrence County and many more play and they can't be compared. If Lawrence wins the tournament then a person might be able to draw comparisons however as of now it's not time. I have nothing against Lawrence County and congratulate them for being the best team in the 15th this year. I'll be for them at Rupp because they represent our region.

Funny how tuff the 15th region is until Lawrence County goes undefeated in the region. I remember at the 1st of the season how good JC, pikeville, Shelby valley, east ridge, and pike central were going to be.

Maybe at the start of the season some teams were over hyped, but it showed that the region was down compared to other years when play began. I like Lawrence county and anyone can go look at my posts and see that. I will be there cheering them on at state. Always root for the 15th. But as big as a fan of them I am they don't compare to the greatest teams of this regions history. The only way I could be convinced otherwise is if they win the whole thing. But still considering they had Mr.Basketballs, D1 guys, and other college players it's still hard to say that. Plus they had some more depth. When I think of a team It's from the best to the last man on the bench. Lawrence has no one on theirs. Which also makes it hard to say they are one of the greatest.

'89 McDowell, 88 Phelps, 90,91,92 Belfry, 90 Pikeville, 90 Feds Creek and 89 Prestonsburg teams were a ton better than this Lawrence Co squad...

Vanhoose would have a 40-30 game without a doubt

Definitely pulling hard for Lawrence County down at Rupp. I hope they represent the 15th well! I know nothing about this Louisville Doss team so I'll go with LC by 6. The key for the Bulldogs will be the have to stay out of foul trouble. If they pick up any cheap fouls early it will be a long day for LC.

I wish the Dawgs the Best of luck. I also think it was nice that a community finally get to experience the trip to the Seet 16. I Hope they have a good showing and would not mind to see a team from the 15th region win it all. However, to compare this Lawrence Co. team to the Paintsville teams of the 85-87 or 95-98, the Shelby Valley 2010 team is crazy! Be happy they are going to the State Tourney, enjoy it, don't add extra pressure to this team. They are a nice team. But not of this caliber.

I think this Lawrence Co. team IS more comparable to the 2000 Johnson Central team. Not a lot of size, but could SHOOT the rock! Played hard and had several players that could score and rebound. They were a GOOD team. And oh by the way they WON their 1st game at the State Tourney and lost to eventual State Champs Elizabethtown(who had a pretty good player Antoine Barbour).

Just because they won the 1st EVER region tournament does not put them in the category with the State Champion teams. They haven't even won a game at the State and you say they as good as these teams, REALLY???

I never said anything about them being as good or better than any other team. I am asking why you feel compelled to take a jab at LC and pretty much anyone that has anything good to say about them seemingly every chance you get. If someone wants to believe that LC has a great team this year then why not just let them think it without having to jump in and tell them how wrong and stupid they are. People are entitled to agree and disagree but I just think we can do it in other ways besides always trying to dis a team full of kids or the place they are from. This goes pretty much for the site as a whole and not just on you or me. Maybe I am taking your comments the wrong way and overreacting but it is tough to sit back on your thumbs and read a lot of negative things about your kids on here on a daily basis and not respond sometimes. All part of it I guess.
