Bell County Coaching search
“There’s a lot of busy things going on in your mind when you’re head coach. It’s hard to just turn it off,” said McCreary. “You’d like a little more time. Football has gotten to where it’s year-round. It just felt like the right time to do it.”(on retiring)

A quote from the man who is going to lead our football program.....This is the guy who is going to put in the time necessary to be successful????

Wow. I am sure our committee did some research:lmao:

You are joking!!!! When was that? I hope not recent.

I had heard the second income was a big draw for him that makes sense cash in and don't worry about what happens.

This will sound blasphemous, but this is the reason you hear from MANY that get out of it...but, they can only say it after they resign/retire.

The summer months are wearing people down & I get it. It'd help if coaches were compensated for their time in June/July like they used to be (almost all coaches back in the day(s) used to get Extended Day pay--that's not the case anymore). I've heard a couple of 'old timers' that have retired after 30 or so years, state titles, etc say that they'd make sure extended days were given or else they'd tell the hiring committee's that their plan would then be to tell the boys on the last day of school 'see you boys August 1st'.

....and, there it is.

Back to some of my points. Confusednicker:

Cash flow talks.
Running Back Wrote:They offered our program to Pineville- Woolum) then to Middlesboro (Frazier who might have been a good hire as he was already an assistant) now giving it to Harlan co connection. I have to admit I have concerns. Concerns about all the older guys relating and coming in from Harlan co ties no offense intended to Harlan. Just concerned.

No offense taken. I understand your concerns!

Thats exactly what this is about for him and our committee has let this happen. We passed up on coach after coach trying to hit a home run and we end up with a guy who probably doesn't want to be here just cashing in. There is no way this guy or the staff mentioned are going to be able to relate to the kids. By the way that article was form November 21, 2015!!! this is an absolute embarrassment and this isn't doing anything but cheating out kids! he will be here 2-3 years while he cashes in and then he's out and we have wasted 2-3 years we could be building. Worst part is i thought we could have decent team this year!

The kids haven't been working how can they have a good season. They are so far behind. They can't catch up.

I was talking about some of the players we would have coming back. before all this mess happened with the hiring process. But now theres no way this is going to be good.

I wasn't disagreeing. You are correct in what you are sayin. I guess I was just adding to it.
Finis Wrote:So what I hear is that McCreary as Head coach, Saylor as OC (that i know for sure is going to happen), Freddie Hunter as DC and Freddie McCreary as asst? Is that correct?

I'd be very surprised if coach Saylor is involved. I think he's happy in retirement.
What is your source on being "sure?" he is coming to Bell?
Just keeps getting better. Cut bait and run!!
Can we expect an announcement soon?

What exactly does it mean to be able to relate to the kids? I'm 30, and I have no clue what kids are talking about now. If the kids trust a coach, that's really all anyone needs. Because then they're going to follow him, listen to him, respect him and most importantly they're going to give him everything they have.

I'm not going to defend or attack anybody with this job, because it's apparently been a train wreck of a hiring process. But, if the kids trust them, that's really all anyone would need. Regardless of age.
McCreary is a heck of a good coach. He has done very well in the Atlanta area where high school football is light years ahead of high school football in Kentucky. I expect he will do a great job if given a chance.

I thought earlier in this thread (20ish pages ago) that someone said the kids were all lifting on their own?
That is what the principal was telling people. It was totally BS.
Amos McCreary last 10 years, Georgia 6A
86-43
and 1 state runner up finish

“Beating Northside Warner Robins when they were ranked sixth in the nation, that was a big victory, but there were a lot of big games that we played here,” said McCreary. “That was the first time Starr’s Mill had been beaten in the county. To beat someone with Coach (Mike) Earwood’s caliber let our kids know they could play at that high level.”

Amos has really never known losing on a football field. In his whole career, from when he started playing at 6 years old through the end of this season, he’s only seen three losing seasons.

“That spans over 50 years. When you’ve only had three losing seasons, you’ve had a silver spoon in your mouth because it could very easily have gone the other way several times,” he said. “It’s just been a great career.”

As meaningful as the on-field wins are, there is another measure of success that makes McCreary beam.

“One of the most fun things for any coach is when you see a kid able to live their dream and go on to college,” said McCreary, who had more than 100 players sign scholarships during his head coaching days. “That’s 100 victories right there. That’s a lot of fun.” -Fayette News
Good article on McCreary. I can tell you from personal experience he a great guy and a hard nosed no nonsense coach.

Thanks. That is the same article that says he wants to quit bc it requires too much time.

If he is just coaching football at Bell and not teaching then there are magically 8 more hours in a day.

Oh please no one is saying he's not a capable coach but don't compare success in georgia to possible success here. Talent is everywhere in georgia its not like he was down there coaching our kids playing georgia talent. And in no way am i saying he's not a good guy i have no idea he probably is. What i am saying is its a terrible decision both examples of him in georiga are worthless comparisons he's no going to send a bunch of kids to college because A) we don't have that talent and B) 90% of our kids and surrounding areas never go anyway. and the success or i guess average success career in georgia in no way means the same here.

So he was teaching in GA? Drivers ed is real tough.
Worthless negativity. Find a new team to root for Bell doesn't need you.
From many of the comments above I can certainly see why no good proven high school coaches in Kentucky applied for the position.
I guess thats why were got stuck with what he have huh?.... has nothing to do with the way the hiring was handled.

Talent is everywhere in Georgia?
I think that is probably true.
So, that means the teams he was beating in Georgia has similar talent and he's winning against all those great teams with talent?

Yep thats exactly what i said. But anyway its getting tiring going back and forth about this. Time will tell but i for one this this is a terrible mistake and we will be doing this again in 2-3 years.
Wow, this thread is incredible. More than double the views of any other thread on the football forum in history.

It has been said by Bell fans that no matter the hire they would only be a 2-3 year fill in.
