Fight at Phelps vs. Belfry Game
#1
With all the Belfry folks on these message boards, I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up yet.

I must have missed the thread on this topic. I didn't see it on BGR anywhere.

Who were the two suck-ass refs that were involved? Everyone else has had their name thrown out there, so why haven't we had these 2? They were very much involved!

I would assume it was because the refs are allowed to be on the floor. The refs are also allowed to distribute technical fouls to coaches, which is what happened. Fans coming onto the court to get into the faces of opposing coaches and refs is not the brightest thing to do.

Doesn't make it okay to kick a 65 year old man in the face when he's not in a position to do you any real physical harm, since he's laying on the ground...

You mean the same 65 year old man who is one of the main causes of this even happening. Same 65 year old man that came out of the stands to get his 2 cents in to the refs. Same 65 year old man that was still on the ground where he lay after just dragging the ref to the ground that in return kicked him.

You have to take into reason what that 65 year old man done that lead to the kick. If he had stayed in the stands where he belonged his son would not have turned and seen him arguing with the refs, and probably would have kept on going to the locker room rather than coming back to push the ref which started the whole thing.

I'm not saying Mr. Varney SHOULD have approached the opposing team bench but people need to understand that since he has a decent relationship with Jason Sanson, he felt that he could walk down and have a conversation about what was happening at that moment. Not justifying it by any means. But everyone DOES need to understand that every person involved in this knows one another on a personal level. And it's my understanding that Tom Varney began the shoving because the official was mouthing at his father... and Mr. Varney was trying to separate them and fell, taking the official down with him. Kind of makes sense if you take that information then watch again.

Regardless, nothing justifies the kick. Ever heard the phrase "kicking a man while he's down"? It's not a good thing.

From what I saw, the old man started the whole mess. Should of stayed out of it. Got his son in trouble looks like. Kick was nothing. Cant blame the ref. Someone pulls me down, Im probably gonna drill them. Heat of the moment. Dont blame the coach for takin up for his dad even though his dad started the whole mess it seemed. Aint no wonder nobody wants to ref any more.

Fans are meant to stay in the stands. Anything more than that, it's on them. That's just my take on it. Fans have no business in the face of coaches, refs, or players at any point during a sporting event.

It doesn't matter when there are kids witnessing this ignorance. Need to meet up at the park and settle it like adults if that was the intention was to fight, not at a school function.
