Sheldon Clark Football

Will anyone even apply for this opening?

I know that Chester McCoy was taken to the field and showed around. Heard he was trying to get a package deal in place for him and his some Scotty, who is the HC at Magoffin County.

That would be a good hire.

If Chester and Scotty were to take that job those young men would be very blessed. Regardless of what they do in the Win/Loss columns. Chester is one of the best men/friends I know.

Chester and Scottie are good people. Not sure that would be great hires as football coaches. Never really accomplished much in Magoffin County in terms of win/loss. Don't think they are gonna have any better support or athletes in Martin County.

Its sad to see so little interest in this job. But with the shape of things I am not surprised, however.

what a mess. wasn't that long ago that the locker room backed up with sewage after a rain. I feel for the kids of that area. nothing to do and football at the high school level is dismal

Sheldon Clark has had the worst three/four years of any team or school in the Commonwealth.

- Their school building was falling apart and had to be relocated in to a middle school.
- They have to play their basketball games across the county in a middle school gym.
- Their football locker room has a terrible sewage issue.
- People are moving out of Martin County left and right because of the decline of the coal industry.
- From what everybody says, interest in all sports SC offers are declining season by season.

I really hope that SC makes a good hire and gets their program turned around.

Chester sure didn't last long at Prestonsburg! Wonder what happened there?

He owns a home in Florida and both him and his wife got fairly nice gigs in that area. They have since decided that Florida is better off for vacationing instead of permanent residency so they are trying to get back in the area to be near their grandchildren.

the HC at Magoffin county don't plan on leaving there anytime soon, he is going to carry on his dads legacy as long as they let him
#11
Can't blame him if it's true. Can't imagine the situation at SC is any better than Magiffin County.
#12
what happened to Turner?
#13
He resigned after the season. He came to Marrin County under the assumption that his wife was going to be hired in the school system. The superintendent that made those promises resigned before the school system ever got started and his wife did not receive a job. He has moved on to a assistant job at Boyd County.

The situation at SC has went from bad to worse. What was once a proud program is on the cusp of folding. This next coaching hire could either revive a once very competitive program or send it deeper into obscurity. There needs to be a HC in place right now!! These kids have already fallen behind from and they still aren't working out. The powers that be in the school system continue to drag their feet. It is a sad situation coming from a former player who is saddened by the decisions being made/not made.

I personally don't believe bargaining for multiple jobs should be a thing but I am aware it happens everywhere.

You take the job because you like it, the pay is acceptable, and it's what you want to be doing. me and mine have worked and coached at separate schools for several years because I'd rather let my own talents open doors for me.

Are you all in the same district?

Are you both from the area(s)?

I have no problem with it. You and your family are making the commitment to them, more times than not living and buying a house in the community. Nothing wrong with asking for a commitment on their end.

There isn't much enticing about the coaching world right now. Often times unrealistic expectations, with little resources for absolute crap pay....if your wife is a teacher, and one that is a good one at that, I have zero issues with it.

I have a bigger issue with coaches who wouldn't ask that of the administration, yet move their wives and kids clear across the state to an area they have absolutely zero ties to and then expect them to drive another 30 miles into ANOTHER district where they have even less ties & say, "Here you go".

My wife and I both are in different districts and have been doing so for 8 years (all of her teaching years), but IF I was ever to get back into the coaching profession, I'd be asking what they could do for her; because if not, we can stay right here where we are and her have to drive to a different district..60 mile round trip everyday (not to mention the hassle of having to sell your house & all of that headache).

I have zero issues with it for what my 2 cents (if that) is worth.

Hope to see Sheldon Clark do a Paintsville turn around. Paintsville was being left for dead 5 years ago. They proved what can happen when a community gets behind a bunch of kids.

Looks like it's almost a done deal. Hard to believe that Chester McCoy will not be the HC at Sheldon Clark at this point. Just a matter of if Scotty comes with him. That still seems to be the word in he street.

Just heard its official, Chester McCoy HC at Sheldon Clark.

what are the facilities like at sheldon clark?

Well let's just say Hager was temporarily fired at one point because he stood up for his kids because raw sewage was in the locker room.

Nice turf field....everything else is really, really bad

As for McCoy...

Always thought he was a solid coach who did a good job working with what he had in front of him.

I think SC will improve and those 1-9 and 0-10 years will be old news...but at the same time he seemed to reach a ceiling. I think his SC teams will resemble his Magoffin teams from the days when the Hornets competed in essentially the same District.

Mostly years hovering around the .500 range... occasional surge where they win 7 games and compete for the 2nd Seed and maybe win a playoff game. Don't see SC flirting with the days when Matney was there or Hager's early years though.

A lot has to do with what kind of scheduling that goes on. The kids at SC had no chance against the schedule they had to play this past season.

There has been a lot of talk about dropping out of district play. Personally, I think that would be a huge mistake. SC can compete with PCC and a LC team that just graduated 19 kids. Your takeyour butt kicking from Belfry for a few years. But that is the only district game they can't compete in. Plus, the playoffs are a pretty good payday for a program that doesn't have a booster club.

Anyway, best of luck to Coach McCoy and SC going forward.

good hire for the cardinals
#24
What is Coach McCoy's coaching history? Has his whole career been at Magoffin Co?
#25
I'm thinking that is the the only Head Coaching experience he has. But he has been in a lot of good staffs. He has been at Boyd County, SC, JC, MC, and I think he was on Prestonsburg's staff this past season. I would say there are a couple of stops in his career I'm not familiar with.
#26
I put Boyd County... I think that is wrong. He was at Greenup County
#27
The most recently built weight/locker facility at SC is not in that bad of a condition, however, it is not well taken care of by those who are paid to do so. Mostly needs a good cleaning and a few minor plumbing repairs.
