Corbin 63 Whitley Co. 49
#1
Corbin gets a big district win on the road tonight.
#2
Whitley hands down has the worse coach in the 13th region. They have a 6'8" player on the bench the mojority of the game against a Corbin team who's center is about 6'1" in high heels. Kid had three blocks, clogged the lane in the first half. (Don't get the ball inside ever, what ever happened to inside out??) 2nd half didn't play him when the game was close and could still play zone, but.....this is great....he puts him in the game late 4th quarter when Corbin has a lead....so they can't play zone with Corbin's 7 guard offense. This was the apitimy of good v/s bad. As in the best coach in the region v/s the worse.

I was very surprised how little Rice played. He played well when he was in the game. Also curious why Woods didn't start. Corbin's Andrew Taylor is something special, had a huge game.

Someone told me Luke been practicing for the border bowl football game. I guessed some school punished kids when you play more than one sports. Rice would start on my team period with his god giving height period, period, period.and besides he's a pretty good ball player the future is now for this kid. I need to shut up. Confusederiously:

Just another year of Whitley basketball and a bad coach. Nothing new to see here...

If indeed (because im not sure) Woods was sit because of him participating in what could be a game that gets him a scholarship he wants, then that's the biggest disgrace ive ever witnessed.
Some coaches just don't get it. Ive continually seen players sit for missing one practice while out sick or something and its just stupid. Its the entire reason kids don't even want to play anymore. They put up with it for years and now its just not worth it.

NO EXCUSE for that.

It happens on every team, just look at South Laurel, They keep starting that Miller kid, when he would be lucky to start for Redbird, they should be starting the young RAMEY boy, that kid can play and should be starting. and I agree RICE should start, he should have came over to Clay we would have started him.

If Luke missed two practice for the border bowl, he might have been fine with not starting the game. So he didn't get to play at all?
Bailey is a fine young man, there are time he plays like he's 5'8, but not all coaches can't coach a post player.

Rice should shine in this offense that Whitley runs, they play a slow half-court offense and have some good shooters and a couple slashers. The problem is without Rice they have no release pass at the top of the lane and no one to throw over the defense, they end up passing the ball around the top all night with no cuts and relying on the shooters to create their own shots which is difficult against an aggressive defense such as Corbin’s. Coach Davis at South Laurel does a good job with his big guy Taylor and runs his offense around him and they are successful. Rice has too much potential to shelf him and his body language showed me last night that his confidence may be gone. Bailey Rice is a good kid and I hate to see him no reach his full potential, not many 6’8” kids sitting the bench in this area.

Woods played, and played well. But he didn't start the game.

Its a shame Rice didn't stay at Corbin. He doesn't live in the Corbin school district, but he is only 10 minutes from the high school. In the long run, it probably would have been better for him, and it would have made Corbin a better team.

I'm sure Woods played well and is a gamer!!!
Bailey should have stayed at Corbin were he would have been pushed to his potential.

Amen...
Was told by Luke's dad that Luke sat because he had to miss two practices because of his participation in the Border Bowl...It is a honor to be selected for this game and no player who playing both sports should be penalized for this...Shame on Coach Overbay or any coach who holds this over their kids heads...

Congrats the the Redhounds...

Coach P is rounding Corbin into a dangerous team come district time. They have improved a bunch
#15
Look at Knox Central. Got the Allen boy on the bench. He's about 6"7 and can play. Don't know what the deal is over there. Anyone know?
#16
Got em rocking at the right time

They have Marsee and Liford starting. Is he better than them?
I think the deal is he went to a place that already had a pretty deep team.
#18
Two coaches in the region that can coach post players: Lewis Morris, Tony Petrioski
#19
I'd start all 3 and let the Wells boy come off the bench. When Patterson learns how to coach,KC will be very hard to handle

Wells averaged 8.6 points and 6 rebounds for a good team last year. I can't him getting benched.
#21
Knox central needs some guards , to feed tge bigs the ball, mot more bigs. There guard play is among the worst ive seen this year
#22
Defenantly better than Pattersons cousin. Wells
#23
You know what they say about blood.... And, Tony is smart enough not to base his team on players who change schools every year.
#24
That's what I would do. Play blood and lose or play the best and win. You're an idiot

One of my favorite coaches (Billy Hicks) has a rule that if you don't practice you don't play. Period, no exceptions. It doesn't matter if it is because of injury, illness or whatever. Is it possible Overbay has the same rule?
#26
^
That's a tired and tried rule that only pisses this generation off.
I don't know a coach that doesn't have that rule. At least ive never met one and its an absurd rule. So the day before the game, your best player is throwing up, next day feels completely fine and you sit him because he missed?

Its the dumbest damn thing ive watched coach after coach after coach do. If a kid just skips practice, I could see it. Injury, illness, or something like this bowl game? Stupid move.

The coach has the right to play who he chooses. It's not up to parents and fans. It's up to the head coach, period. BTW, it's worked pretty well for Hicks. I saw him set his best player for a district game because his leg was too sore to practice but fine on the day of the game. His team played great and won that night.

Rice has been to three diff schools with three diff coaches. Same thing has happened at each school and with each coach. U think its time to stop blaming the coaches? There is a reason why he keeps sitting on bench everywhere
#29
I think its 4 schools. I think he left Bell County in Middle School went to Corbin Middle, North Laurel High and then Whitley County.
#30
I meant 3 high schools coaches. Played high only at Corbin as 8th. Played at north as freshman. Whitley as a soph. I hope he figures it out and gets playing like he capable. He has all potential anybody could ask for.
