I can't even get my thoughts into words right now. I am SO PROUD of this team!!! No giving up in these boys; defensive tenacity from everyone; Cameron Carmical.

When Cameron was giving his interview after the game, his brother hit a half court shot to win a Subway sandwich!

What was the tale of this game details please

Carmical and Spurlock came out early on and made a statement that they were there to compete and win tonight! This is a good sign they are maturing into players that must be taken very serious... 2nd half Carmical simply had a very special run that got his team back in it and eventually closed the deal. Very entertaining game for all mountain folks to watch! Hats off to the up and coming Black Bears.....HC is gonna need production out of some of the supporting cast tomorrow night in the championship game and I believe these kids are very capable and will play very well....

Congrats Bears. That pull-up jumper Carmichael hit late in the game to put Harlan up was a big time shot. Congratulations to all the Bears and their fans. You have reason to be proud Granny Bear. Peace be among us Brother Cecil.

He not only won a sandwich Granny he won $200.00 also. Harlan co is so quick. Great effort. I do think after South's win over Letcher that I said they were overrated? They have multitudes of talent and I'm putting their problems squarely on their coaches back.

I wanted to add that I'm in no way taking away from this Harlan co teams effort and win tonight. I love this team and they are a great example what heart is all about in sports.

South had an average game compared to some this year. And Carmichael was really solid. Awesome win bears! This Region is wide open. Probably 5 teams that can win it on a given night. Reminds me of when things were so competitive back in the 80s and 90s. I love high school ball.

Tremendous win tonight by HC. They hung around when south went up 10 in the third and refused to go away quietly. I believe that Carmical and Spurlock are as good a guard combo as you will find anywhere. They made big play after big play through the game. Spurlock hit some big shots and Carmical just went off. I also thought Turner and Burkhart did a great job defending Taylor all night. Nolan made a couple of big shots in the third to keep the Bears within striking distance. Simmons made a huge play late in the game forcing a turnover. It was a team effort.

Oh my, what will South do....

Well if this was an average game from South Laurel, I'm glad we played them when it happened!! It took everything we had to stay with them, and make the final run.
To answer your question Magic, it is all of what BlackBearCuz said plus a little bit. It truly was a team effort and I really didn't think my heart could take it in the last two minute of the game.
Simmons wasn't hitting his shot like he always does, but instead of getting frustrated, he made up for it with tenacious defense. He would double up on Taylor every single time he got an entry pass. Turner never left his position on Taylor and even Nolan came down a couple of times to help. That's right folks, these guys double and triple teamed Taylor all night long. If he got an entry pass, they were on him like bees on a hive. And still Taylor managed to score some.
I was just so impressed with that effort, and it NEVER LET UP. We had two subs that came in that I LOVE to watch play, but for the life of me I can't remember their names. I'll go look them up, and come back because they absolutely deserve to be mentioned. One of them always backs up Turner and dang he's a beast. The other one is Andrew.....aww can't remember. Anyway this kid reminds me of a Tasmanian devil. He is all over the place all of the time, and has a great 3 point shot.
And now the guards. I want to be careful here because I don't want anybody to misinterpret my comments. Like Simmons, Nolan didn't score as much as he usually does, but that only fueled his effort. He never stopped taking open shots, and that's smart!! You can't pass up open looks. He ended the game hitting those shots and throughout the contest, played great great defense. Some of his block outs and rebounds were amazing. Spurlock stroked the three to bring us out of the first slump, and made some defensive moves that were wonderful. He's very quick for his height and was able to cause some turn overs and steals from his play.
I don't even want to talk much about Carmical because anything I say won't be enough. Name something....defense, rebounds, heart, speed, effort, leadership, poise, scoring, etc etc etc The answer is YES, he did all those things, and did them very well.
First thing Carmical said in his post game interview (while the crowd was cheering in the background for his brother) is that he thanked God and his team mates.
I'm considering kidnapping this kid, and making him live with me and Pappy!!

I can't find a dang roster!! Somebody help me out here with the names of those two kids.

Great effort by the Bears. I thought they were done when they went down by 11 but there's no quit in 'em! Carmical was outstanding. Just my observation, but I didn't think South played badly. I think they made some bad decisions, some of those because of what Harlan County did, when they got up 11. I know they backed off the best player on the floor at least twice during this time and he burned them with 3's. I also thought they took a few quick shots. Fun game to watch and certainly two teams that will contend for the 13th region title.

South is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get. They will have a hard time getting through the region. Playing 3 good teams in a row may be their down fall. Bears are very good. If you sleep on them they will drag you into their cave and make a snack of you. Roast Cardinal last night.

South Laurel should be better than they are i dont know if it coaching or the kids dont listen but 0 and 25 should be able to take a game over and 44.....I still say by March they be in the hunt.

Andrew Creech is the guard.
Lamar Burkhart is the forward.
Both are sophomores.

What a game!! HC proved a lot of doubters wrong in this one. What a one-two punch they have in Carmichael and Spurlock! Also, a very underrated supporting cast. Very impressive!!

South coaching is terrible, grubb shoots way too many shots, griffth needs some of Grubbs shots.
