4,948 Jaime Walz (Highlands) 1991-96
4,385 Geri Grigsby (McDowell) 1975-77
4,360 Whitney Creech (Jenkins) 2008-2015
Is this correct? If so, she just need 26 to be 2nd all-time? Wow!! Pretty amazing.

Maybe $$ has something to do with them not playing more outside of the mountains. Looks to be over a 300 mile round trip from Jenkins to Lexington. Not sure what the budget is for Jenkins Girls Basketball but it wouldn't take but a few trips like that to strain it pretty severely I'm guessing.
They're playing in Montgomery Co's tourney starting Sunday btw.

PC Sports Wrote:4,948 Jaime Walz (Highlands) 1991-96Yes, very amazing. I also find it amazing that the 2nd leading scorer Grigsby scored that many without the 3 point line.

If u are Creech fans, she scores very few points outside the lane.
12-26-2015, 02:31 AM
This will be one of the last great players from the mountains small school system, the large schools r weeding them out!! My daughter has played against her since the 6th grade , I couldn't tell which one was her strong hand then, her talent was there then,it's been a joy to watch her play she brings back memories of a great player from a small school in Perry county, buckhorn the girls name was Peggy gay!!
12-27-2015, 12:35 AM
She has played against quality competition, not every single night but she has , she was the nations leader scorer last year and more then likely will be this year , no reason to be putting her down she can straight up ball ....
12-27-2015, 12:31 PM
Not putting her down at all, love to watch her play!!! Just referring to a previous post on how one of the top all time leading scores achieved her points before the 3 point shot, an I replied that creech also has scored most of her points on two pointers.
12-27-2015, 12:44 PM
When playing in much larger schools , there usually is larger group of girls to choose from for basketball, so very good players can put good numbers but due to the overall talent on a team an how a team is coached team ,that good player would usually get less shots an have do less to achieve there goals as a team, which would result in a player not having to score as much or rebound as much. This is not in anyway a shot a her ability, by no means!!! Put her on Leslie counties team last year , 25 to 30 point scorer , just because of the talent of the team an maybe with a little luck could won the state championship last year.still no disrespect to the Jenkins team an the coaching staff,
There my pick to win the region this year! Because when u step on the court in any game with creech ,you can beat anybody any day!

Crèech is fun to watch. I think she will have a nice career at WKU.
12-28-2015, 02:33 AM
Why score 18 feet away from the basket when you can score 2 feet from the basket? When Jenkins plays anyone Whitney is constantly being double teamed with an extra defender in the lane.... all this talking of saying whitney couldn't score that many for a bigger school I agree she would score 25 which isnt anything to hang your head about while shooting 75 percent.... she's a player
12-28-2015, 03:33 AM
She had 60 today in a 70-45 win over Montgomery Co ... She now sit @ 4,420 points
12-28-2015, 04:30 AM
Nice story in Lexington Herald about her. Like to see her get 5000

The very player that the "Mr. Basketball" award was made for Kelly Coleman..Also Jeri Grigsby now third on that list who scored all those points in only three years with no 3-point line, both from the mountains..In fact the same county..
this girl is doing something special, something we don't see every day..Enjoy it while you can..
12-28-2015, 05:30 AM
Yes sir King Kelly Coleman could play some round ball, he is from a holler in Wayland. Often compared to Jerry West , back in the day. Ervin Stepp could hoop a little bit also

That's the one of the reasons I don't care about posting, people take it way to far about what I was trying to say about the bigger schools, she wouldn't have to score 60! Doesn't that she couldn't!!! Just that she wouldn't have to bring a win to the team. If she's scores 25 a Jenkins every night , they don't win a game, but 25 at Leslie this season an they r undeafted. She has to score 50 for them to win, she not only a scorer but a great player period ! She would do what ever it takes to win! If getting 20 rebounds a game gave her a win an she didn't score a point, she would be happy!!
12-29-2015, 01:40 PM
^Which is a sign of a great player. Those kinds of players, like Whitney, will elevate the game for others on the team. Players will score more from Whitney's efforts, and may be inspired to play better defense.
I haven't seen her play, but sure going to try and catch at least one of her games.

And even more impressive is that Grigsby did it in only 3 seasons! Creech is in her 7th which is still a feat in itself.
12-29-2015, 02:12 PM
Charles Thomas from Harlan independent was also Kentuckys Mr. Basketball
12-29-2015, 08:32 PM
He was a great player right up til Tubby Smith got a hold of him.

41 points in the loss to Henry Clay puts her at 4505.

To be honest, along with several others, hasn't even heard of her until last year.
With AT LEAST 17 games left on the schedule, I think, barring injury of course, that sshe breaks the record. I don't see how she cant.
Any chances she drops WKU and goes to UK if they ask? I know shes signed her LOI, but theres ways to get around that. Hate to see any player that can score like that go somewhere that's not on a national level. Maci Morris is killing it right now in her first year at UK.

The school would have to let her out of her LOI. Not likely to happen, although I think she committed to WKU without a official visit which is strange. UK will not offer......
12-30-2015, 03:54 PM
At the very worst she would havery to sit out a year if she went to UK. In women's basketball there isn't no jumping after one year so that'd still give her a year.
I'd imagine if she's not happy at WKU she may leave. Has Mitchell shown any interest at all?

He invited her to two big blue madnesses. No offer was given due to one or two schalorships uk had. Then four players transferred and after she committed and sign with wku it was too late. He will have more five or six freshman spots next year.

She has been on a few visits to WKU

The fact that Mitchell has cleaned house opened up a spot that probably would have went to Creech. Ive never understood the point on signing LOI's. All they do is bind you to a school when they are unnecessary if your good enough that the school wont back out like in this case. Unless they favor you, the player, into making the school take you, there is no sense in signing one other than getting your picture taken. You can always sign a LOI on the very last day or not at all if you just want to sign a financial aid agreement.
Don't get me wrong, im happy shes going somewhere, id just much rather see her in blue and its possible now.

UK will not offer.....nor have they. Tons of kids get invited to BBM every year just like kids gets letters. Means zilch.
