How the state championships played out this year.
#1
West Ky 3 titles

East Ky 2 titles

Cent Ky 1 title

No Ky no titles

I'm most shocked by Louisville area only getting 1.

I wonder how many years in the past 20 or so that Highlands, NewCath and Beechwood all failed to bring home a title.

Is this a significant change or do you think that Northern KY will be back with a vengeance?

It's hard to stay on top forever.

And do I also see public's 6 titles vs private's 0? So can we give a rest to all the talk about spitting the privates into their own class? The public's are very capable of beating the privates and there is no arguments which champion is better if public, privates separated.

I still like the 1 plus arrangement and think it is the most fair. We had to go through 3 private schools enroute to the championship this year.

Pikeville's private.

Ok, I will bite. How is Pikeville private?

Uh, nope-- try again!

Pikeville is Independent, as is Mayfield if I'm not mistaken. Meaning they are not county schools and have open enrollment as long as you pay tuition. I could be wrong if so please correct it.

Nope. With a handle like MountainSports, ya might want to actually KNOW about the schools in the mountains.
#12
In today's world of reciprocal agreements you might as well call independent schools public County Schools as well.
Hardly any schools will actually make you pay to attend anymore. In SEKY you can go to pretty much any school no matter where you live and in return the other school you should be going to takes in kids from the district you are now attending. There is really no difference.

Sorry I don't know EVERYTHING about every mountain school. You act like I'm the first person in this area to think Pikeville is private.

Not to be a butthole but I have never heard anyone say that my entire life

Uhhh, Pikeville INDEPENDENT Schools as a name should have been a tip. Cordia is private, Piarist is private. Pikeville is not. The only other time I've heard anyone say Pikeville was private was a guy from West Virginia.

Question about reciprocal agreements . Greenup co decided to stop all reciprocal agreements with Raceland and Russell for sure maybe with all schools bc they were loosing to many students is this something going on in a lot of areas or just around here
#17
Look at it this way. If your school is named after a town or county you are a public school. I don't know any that are not.

That can happen. Just because there is one doesn't mean a school can't stop it.
The whole premise of a reciprocal agreement is that in turn for you getting other schools student for free they in turn get some of yours for free. This works in a place like Whitley county where both kids from corbin city and Williamsburg city come to Whitley and vise versa because even though you live in one district the school from the other district may be closer. This isn't always the case and if a school is losing all its kids to the other they can end it to get there kids back, or should I say state funding back. It's all about the money and as long as you are giving as much as you are receiving everybody is happy.
It's just sometimes parents take advantage of this with there little Johnny footballs.
As was the case with Knox County wanting to end there's with Corbin even though kids going to Corbin, a top academic school in the state, would of had to change to Lynn Camp in Knox County, which is one of the worst.

The only exception would be if the word "Academy" then appears in your name.

This does not pertain to Kentucky... but I have heard of schools in other states that were private and named after the town, city, and county by being ___________ Academy

Actually watched my nephew play a basketball game this weekend at Athens Academy for example

There's no difference between a public school and an independent school. Both or public and have the same rules..

Thanks I was just wondering if it was a problem anywhere else , kind of a double edge sword can't blame greenup for being upset for loosing a lot of kids but at the same time you kind of wonder why they are leaving. I heard crazy number like they have 2000 kids going out of district

I love that that Northern Kentucky schools were shut out this year ...no offense. I'm glad that someone other than NCC and Highlands are winning Titles.

Mayfield certainly did their part in the final 3 weeks of the season they single handedly made the Pope curse by forcing Owensboro Catholic, DeSales and NCC to their knees

As I suspected, the best football was played in WKY

Independent schools no longer have the advantage that they had prior to changes in school funding in the late 80's. Actually the commissioner of education stated that he wanted 120 school systems in the state and has made an effort to shut independents. Save a nickle damn the child approach.

No way in Hades he will get Pikeville to close. While strides have been made at other schools in the county, Pikeville still offers the best academic opportunities in Pike County overall. Please, before anyone puts my head on a pike and tries to run me out on a rail, note I said strides have been made at the other schools. The gap is nowhere near as wide as it used to be. In fact, in certain subjects, some schools have caught or even passed Pikeville. But overall, Pikeville still offers the best in Pike County. The new commissioner sounds like someone who needs to get out and your before opening their mouth.

Keep an eye on the East. Schools represented took a liking to BG, or wherever it may be played.

I suspect a couple of coaching changes in NKy. I also suspect Highlands will revive next year.

Belfry has taken up a second residence in BG for the last 6 years in December. Maybe we should buy some land down there. haha j\k
