No doubt that Les Dixon was in charge of these awards.

No clue? Looks like whoever was voting on it went by the stats!

Funny how stats count this year, but when north was the worst team in the tri county area they always had a presence in these awards. Shoot, I'll agree they deserve some press, they're doing something special in north London. But every award but two is a little much. Everyone knows that Les is a die hard north laurel fan. That said, he is a good columnist. I enjoy his articles but he is far from unbiased.

Here's a stat for you North Laurel didn't win their region. Dalton Cook rushed for more yards and had more tackles than Cole McWhorter that won newcomer of the year. Cook was also only a Freshman. Most deserving of all candidates for this award.

Nelson and Jake McWhorter very deserving of their awards.

Who is Dalton Cook?

Nice number for a freshman for sure. :Cheerlead

Sizemore was the most valuable offensive player on a team that went to the state semis. He earned newcomer of the year.

Don't kill the messenger, Boyz...took that straight out of the paper on my desk when I got to work this morning. Sounds like you never saw Mcwhorter play to me. He was in every newspaper around here all season & had a hwck of a Sophomore season.

Not taking anything away from any of the kids who won. Sizemore did deserve the award. And all those kids from north are really good football players who could start on any other team in the tri-county area. What I'm saying is that these awards are full of hypocrisy. When north was terrible it was all about spreading the wealth around to every team when it came to awards. Now that les's favorite team is in the argument for "best" in the tri county (imho they're third) he forgets about everybody else and acts like north is more talented than male.

They beat a southwestern team that beat Corbin, I know you can't compare scores but I believe that's the only common opponent. That being said Corbin may have been better but who else would you put above NL in that area?

Knox central was better than both.
#15
Congrats to Luke Woods...

I've seen him many times. Will be one of the best in the tri county and possibly state next two years. I was refuting your claim these awards were won based on stats.

Southwest Pulaski also beat Knox central

Surely you jest: SW beat them I believe 57-0, NL beat SW!

I was looking @ stats on KHSAA I could find when I said that, and it appeared to be holding, with the winners was what I was going by. Yeah, some football scholars are saying Mcwhorter (young) has D-1 talents. We'll see!

I believe everyone was happy when they thought he was gone for good.

Nope. Still there for whatever reason.

Look, I cant really disagree or take anything away from these awards. I think each are very deserving. If you go by stats, Woods rushed for almost as much as Nelson did in 3 less games. Not to mention he THREW for the same amount. At the very least, he could have went co-player of the year on this one. That's what I would have done. But this is the reason people from Corbin hate there own paper. You cant take it seriously with somebody like Dixon running the show. I actually enjoy Parsons writing the majority of the time but its almost as if hes been forced, as sports editor, to only right about volleyball and stuff like that.
Ive also noticed since the Dixon comeback, that the Sentinel Echo and Times might as well be the same paper based out of London.

Kudos to these young men for winning these awards. I cant disagree with any of the rest of the awards.

That is almost like comparing apples & oranges, they play different positions. McWhorter had 16 rushing TD's to Cook's 14. According to KHSAA stats...Cook had 75 tackles to Mcwhorter's 58. You can compare those, McWhorter had QB stats Cook didn't have, another thing to compare: McWhorter's team record 11.2 - Cook"s 4-7.

Cook played for the worst team in Tribcount

Southwestern won 26-15. The week after Knox beat Louisville central. It's hard for high school kids to get up to that level two weeks in a row. When Corbin played southwestern, Corbin was banged up. When north played southwestern, southwestern was banged up. This isn't college, when someone is hurt talent level suffers. Again, I'm not saying the young men don't deserve the honors. I'm just saying that 5-10 years ago, "the worst team in the area" excuse wasn't enough to keep north kids off of the awards list.
#24
SW beat KC 26-15 it was one of the worst games KC played this season. I still think NL is a better team, but not that much better
#25
I was fortunate I got to watch a lot of these Tri-County teams play this season. I have been looking over the stats like some of the rest of you were doing and I have to say all of those kids are very deserving of the awards they received. I don't know with the season North has had how you could keep from doing it exactly like it was announced?! I think whoever was responsible for the selection was spot on!

Ok, I was looking at something else got that score mixed up. You think North is made out of steel and rubber and doesn't get banged up? You would be amazed at the level of pain all these kids play thru not just Corbin and Southwestern. Those North kids deserve these awards this year no one involved cares what happened 10 years ago!

Be interesting to see how the awards went last year when Corbin was clearly the best team in the area... I believe it was spread around..

Williamsburg was in the running last year as one of the top teams. I really don't know who was the best team Corbin or Williamsburg last year I spilt my time with both teams. I want to say Corbin. But Williamsburg put a running clock on Wayne County after the 1st qtr at Wayne.IT make you think sometime who was the best. I think North Laurel won one award last year best field goal kicker. I didn't notice that award this year. But I do think the Times got it right this year. :Cheerlead
#29
Agreed, I tried to edit my post after I thought about what I typed but I was past the time.... Williamsburg was a very good team last year, world of difference from 1A to 3A but I believe it would have been a very good game between the two.
#30
I don't think Corbin deserved any of the awards...I just think it could have been spread around a little more. Sizemore isn't a newcomer by my definition, not sure what they define a newcomer as though. I quit subscribing to that paper a looong time ago due to their bias.
