16th Region - Is Morgan #1?
#1
Doesn't look like there's many 16th region fans on this board, but some of you 15th regioin guys may want to take a stab at this. Is Morgan the team to beat in the 16th this year?
#2
Matt Perry does a good job at his school. No pressure there and if he wins great and if not he is fine. I personally have never been overly impressed with what he does. Full of stats and excuses when he loses and self serving when he wins. He likes the spotlight. Answering your question, Morgan should win the region.
#3
belfry took morgan co. easily earlier in the season... i watched them play and i wasnt very impressed either.
#4
Didn't the Belfry game go to overtime? From what I heard, Morgan got robbed by 15th region refs....no flame intended.
#5
Belfry won 61-60, Hows that easy?
Big 6-5 McCowan and alot of hustle, I agree Perry might not have the best personality, but he gets the most out if those kids and man, he works them to death.
But it's made them winners and paid off. I think they got a great shot, but I think Boyd and Russel do as well.

What would it take to impress you? Perry has taken a program that didn't have a winning record for decades to the Sweet 16 and now has them again #1 in the 16th region.

My point exactly. This program was headed upward with him or without him. They were bottom of the barrell. I applaud what he has done but don't think he's head and shoulders above any other coach like he thinks he is. This is what he wants you to do each time he's in your presence. :theman:

Right now it's neck and neck between Morgan,Boyd, and Fairview. Russell a little behind after Clark quit team.

You are totally clueless about Morgan Co basketball history. And just how were they headed up with or without him? Gotta laugh at that one......:insane:

belfry had morgan co. 10-12 pts. most of the game until the end when belfry let them come back some.. and i do mean LET, belfry wasnt playin much ball towards the end.

Where was it played at. It does make a difference. It's hard for teams out of the 15th region to get any calls on 15th region floors. I've seen it a couple times this year. Even had the Pikeville radio announcer apologize (for the refs we were getting)to us (Raceland) BEFORE our game at Pikeville. :omg:

Didn't Morgan's McCowan put in the winning shot at the buzzer during regulation only to have the basket waved off because another 15th region ref away from the play called a 'ficticious' foul on a Morgan player as he saw the ball going in the basket? Talk about home cooking! Morgan wins by 10+ on a neutral court with neutral officials......'nuff said.:wenumber1

As of now Morgan Co. is the team to beat in the 16th region.
#17
Morgan beat a very good Fairview team tonight. To me, this makes them the best. Morgan has beaten them twice now. Best, yes, but can be beaten on a given night.
#18
And Rose Hill beat Boyd Co last night.....
Morgan draws for the district toady at 11:00...will see who will go and who will stay home.

]:boo:one point and overtime does'nt sound easy in any language.

Some guy from around the p'burg area was'nt very impressed with Morgan after the Black Cats played them and lost to the Cougars in that same tourney that Belfry was in. Is Belfry the only team that can have an off night I would dare say Morgan was'nt at their best that night either. By the way p'burg got another chance to play Morgan. The second game was'nt as close as the first.:blabbermo

i think morgan is the best. but if they are to get knocked off that regional title, Fairview will the only team that will do it
#21
I think they're the best. Blake McCowan is tough inside, he doesn't miss, probably one of the best finishers I've seen. 90% from the field in 5 games, that's unheard of. Nathaniel Peyton can shoot the ball as good as anyone in the 16th. Coach Perry does an outstanding job with this team, they'll be in the race for the Region title.
#22
...Yea very impressive on the part of these senior guys ..Cougar coach Matthew Perry and crew know exactly how to get them far into the post-season.. should do well in the 16th, if they're careful not to overlook Elliot and Fairview...
#23
Like him or not, really dont matter. Perry has built a winner at Morgan!
Alot of people dont like Bobby Knight either but he's still a hell of a coach.
#24
For now Morgan County (22-3 overall, 15-1 within the region) would have to be the best team in the region. However, there are a lot of good teams in this region that are capable of knocking them off.
#25
Nike Man needs either an enema or a laxative. Is he a wannabe coach or ???????
#26
I've seen almost every team in the 16th region this year and I think that Fairview has the best overall game. They have two big men in Black and Bayless, and they have the guard play of Hutchinson and Barker. Morgan is right there with the Eagles. They can go about 7 deep if need be and they play great defense.
#27
Fairview is 0-2 vs. Morgan. Come on lil' Vikie......get a clue bud.
#28
Dude this region is so balanced this year that there really isn't a clear cut favorite. I believe last year that Morgan was favored to win the tournament this time last year and they got beat out of the first round by Russell who really came on strong.

But back to balance, Elliott beats Morgan, Morgan beats Fairview, Fairview beats Elliott, Rowan beats Elliott, Morgan beats Boyd, Boyd beat Ashland, Ashland beats Rowan, Greenup beats Russell, Ashland beats Russell, Rowan beats Fairview, Russell beats Rowan, Ashland beats Russell, Fleming beats Rowan, East Carter beats Russell, Rowan beats East Carter, Morgan beats Russell, Boyd beats Russell, West Carter beats Rowan, Boyd beats Elliott, Fairview beats Russell, Greenup beats Fairview, Fairview beats Ashland, Rose Hill beats Boyd................I could go on forever baby.....this is a balanced region with no clear cut favorite. :moon:

Dude....not making any excuses or taking anything away from a fine Russell team, but the Morgan team had just spent the entire evening of the Russell game as pallbearers at the funeral of their teammate who helped them win the regional tourney the year before. They left the graveside just in time to get to the game. Get a clue, dude. You're unbelieveable.
#30
Russell was a great team last year and they didn't have an answer for Van Hoose or Blair last year. Russell was the better team and they won. Maybe if the Cougars didn't blow that late 5 point lead against Rowan in the district championship they would of got an easier draw, but they didn't take care of busniess in the district and they paid for it with a first round loss.
