Starting this purely for any updates this evening from the game. I will try my best to update, won't be a play by play, obviously. Fully expect the Panthers to go up big early and get the young'uns some good playing time.

Hearing Phelps is down to only 15 players? 19 on their roster. Anyone seen them play this year to confirm?

Running clock in the first or second quarter. Would love to see Phelps figure something out to get numbers up and become more competitive. Their kids always show so much heart and never quit, they just never have the numbers.
Pikeville by alot. I'll say:
Pville Starters score 35 unanswered points
Pville JV scores a handful of times
Pville Freshman finish it out
Coach Mac is a class act and wont run up the score, but the problem is, there is only so much you can do. Last year Raceland played JV and Frosh from midway through the 2nd quarter. The varsity went up 48-0 after 4 TD passes from Young, a rushing TD by Christian a pick 6 by Christian and 2 punt returns for a TD by messer. The JV came in and Damon Black through two TD passes and Ran for another. The freshman would have scored but ran out of time. Its a tough way to coach.
There is only so much a coach can do. You CAN NOT tell kids to slack off, play soft, or ease up. You can try different things, formations, hell, you can play kids out of position if you want. But when a team struggles like Phelps has in the last few years, it's hard to play them "fairly" with being insulting.
Its a tough situation. Imo, Phelps should do what Berea did a few years back and ease up the schedule and drop from district play and try to do something to build their numbers up.
Hope both squads come out injury free. Good luck to bith squads.

East Ridge took the same route, it appears to have worked some for them. Then again, they have a bigger enrollment to draw from so I'm not sure exactly how much it would help. Joplin is a class act too, I agree Mac won't purposely run the score up into the 80's. But like you said, there's only so much you can do. If you run the ball and a young kid sees daylight, he's gonna run for it and no one can blame him.

On a serious note..... why even play this game?
The KHSAA scoreboard only goes back to 1998..... Has Phelps EVER BEAT Pikeville?
Pikeville and Phelps have played every season from 1998 to present, and Phelps hasn't even been close in any of the games.
I realize this is a district game, but the KHSAA, Pike County School Board & the Pikeville School Board should have a meeting about getting this game removed from the schedule of both teams.
If the post about Phelps only having 15 players on their roster is true..... there is no reason this game should be played.

Pikeville is 27-0 with the results I have. The closest game was the 1984 contest, which was a margin of 23 points. Phelps played to a 28-0 loss in 2001 in what is probably the most competitive score in the series.

Phelps had an Undefeated Regular Season in the early '80s and beat Pikeville. Butch Joplin was the Coach.

Why run it up against a program that is trying? Joplin has been a class act and their players were too. Prayers up for the young man from Phelps who was injured.
Final was 53-0. 2nd qtr on was almost entirely JV.
