7 new players at pikeville
#1
7 new players made pikevilles team this week, Justin Walker, Justin Priode, Nick Sands, Austin Isner, Taner Branham, Johnathan Neely, and Luke Huffman (Chase Huffmans Younger Bother).
#2
Are all of these kids 8th graders? What is the potential of this group? Good hitters and/or pitchers?? I know they are still young but how do they look compared to newcomers that have come up before tham?
#3
neely is samantha neelys younger brother right?
#4
Yes....

I Believe that these Rookies are all hard workers and after some good coaching by lawson and howel they will be good baseball players in the future.

I have played in senior league with them all and they all show potential.

sands will be an excellent base runner and outfeilder
neely, isner, and luke have excellent arms

walker, priode, and tannor brnaham are hard workers with a lot of potential.

Priode and branham i think will be good infeilder.

Walker shows potential to. If he works as hard as he does at football he good show a lot of talent.

heres all im going to say about these incoming rookies
nothing compared to those behind them
Luke Huffman is the only one i really see being a major player for the team in the next few years...kid has a great arm just like his brother
heres my breakdown for the rest
walker- lot of heart...not a baseball player but good football player
priode-tries harder than a lot just hasnt completly developed into what he could be yet...
sands-very quick...decent in the outfield but never veiwed him as a baseball player...does have a decent arm i think
isner-strong arm...weird throwing techniques...shows a lot of potential
tanner-havent seen him play much but from what ive heard plays decent defense
neeley-trys hard at everything he does...has a good young arm and can hit the ball very well
Luke-great arm for his age and size...should develop into a heck of a baseball player
I'm still not sure why 7 players were selected without the ppl playing baskebtall not even getting a chance to try out yet...some of those i think are better than the ones already on the team...
and to answer your question PHSFAN, they arent as good as the rookies chosen in the past IMO but with hard work they can develop into team surrounded by the others already on the team and the great coaching from Justice, Howell and Lawson
#8
Well, these players should be a good addition to a good team.

good luck to them. I know most of these kids. Luke is a dandy as ive heard.
#9
Is justin priode steve priode's son
#10
Yup...

And this rookie class comapres ZERO to classes of the past...just look at the seniors right now when the were rookies!
#11
good luck to all of them over there at pikeville
#12
This recruiting class isnt very good at all.

Priode- tries hard but he isnt the most athletic player but maybe could improve if he worked hard.
Isner- Decent arm, fairly fast
Sands- Fast and thats about it
Neeley-Good hitter and has a pretty good arm
Tanner- Pretty good defense
Walker- will try harder than anyone but he isnt a baseball player
Luke- Great arm (probably the most talented of the group)

Truthfully I think he should have taken the three eigth graders and not any of the ninth graders. But thats just me.
#13
i compltetly agree with you youknowwhoibe and Beef makes a very very good point
good post to the both of you...

This is not a recruiting class...it is kids that have come up through the Pikeville school system. You got to be careful when using the word recruiting when talking about high school sports.
#15
Haha I noticed that and thought it was kind of funny, but you can talk about whatever you want on here. Others may not always agree with it, but you have the right to say it.

Sorry about that. I meant the kids that those chose from Pikeville that tried out. Either way it was a weak group.
#17
yeap pretty weak group
i wonder if they will get to see any jv time this year...

I know that you can say your opinion on here and I also know what he meant. I was just pointing out to him to be careful with the recruiting word because some can take it the wrong way espically when Pikeville High is in the discussion
#19
Pikeville already has a 28 man roster more try outs to go
#20
yeap
when the b ball are done there will be some trying out...
#21
Is pikeville gonna have a 30 man roster???
#22
Are there any good hitters on this team? It seems the Panthers haven't had near the hitting the past few years compared to what the school usually produces.

Yea ithink that most of thee rookies will get some jv time this year bcause there are few sophmores and a lot of freshman.
#24
you are probably right indianajones
we will just have to wait and see
#25
yea i would like to see all of the rooks get some playing time.
#26
theres no chance all of them will get to play the field with the team having soo many players...when i say that i mean all in the field at the same time cuz they have some spohmores and freshman that will be in front of them, but they should get plently of swings in
#27
Here is what you will see out of the sophomores at PHS this year.

Robert Boyd-May see some JV time, and some varsity time
McKenzie Carter-May hit in the JV games...Also the #3 pitcher in the varsity rotation.
Griffin Hall-Will play JV
John Michael Mayo-Will see varsity action on the hill, and some JV hitting/catching.
#28
where will Boyd see action at in varsity...pinch runner?
is Carter really the #3 in the rotation this year?
#29
i didnt know carter would be so far up in the rotation considering they have
huffman
wade mccown
jut
miller
weston
#30
I didn't know Weston pitched. If Carter is #3 in the rotation that says a lot about this kids potential!
