Campbellsville must be fantastic then after beating them 59-50. That Faulkner d must be pretty stout!

Five MSC teams mentioned in latest in NAIA Football Top-25 Poll

Posted by Chris Wells - Mon, Oct. 5, 2015
NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Three Mid-South Conference teams are ranked and two more are knocking on the door in the latest NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll, NAIA officials announced on Monday.
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) held on to the top spot for a second straight week following its 42-17 win at Union (Ky.). The Blue Raiders (4-0) received 339 voting points and 13 of the 15 first-place votes from the national raters. Up next for Lindsey Wilson, is a home date with Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday.
Faulkner (Ala.) dropped seven spots to No. 10 this week following its 59-50 home loss to Campbellsville (Ky.). The Eagles (3-1) picked up 217 voting points from the raters after suffering its first loss of the season.
Reinhardt (Ga.) climbed one place to No. 13 after beating Bluefield (Va.) 80-14 last week. The Eagles (5-0) garnered 182 voting points in this week's poll.
Lindsey Wilson and Reinhardt are two of seven teams in the NAIA that are unbeaten this season.
Reinhardt hosts Faulkner on Saturday in Waleska, Georgia.
Campbellsville and Cumberlands earned a mention in the poll after their wins last week.
Cumberlands (4-1) is the first team outside the top 25 with eight voting points while Campbellsville (3-2) is two spots behind the Patriots with five voting points. Cumberlands defeated Bethel (Tenn.) 59-7 while the Tigers upset Faulkner.
Southern Oregon is No. 2 in the poll with 321 voting points and one first-place vote while Morningside (Iowa) is No. 3 with 314 voting points and the final first-place vote.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents.
The next regular season poll is scheduled to be released on Monday, Oct. 12.

I attended the game last weekend in Columbia and Faulkner did not beat LW by 5 TD's in a walk. In fact, Faulkner did not beat LW by 5 TD's, or 4 TD's, or any TD's.

LWC won 24-19 and remains ranked 1st in NAIA for the 4th straight week. Big game at Reinhardt (Ga) ranked # 8 nationally.

What separates LWC from many other NAIA teams is their red zone defense, which is likely one of the best in NAIA.

Go Blue Raiders!

I've seen Reinhardt play and I can assure they are a very good team. And that's on both sides of the ball BTW. Haven't seen LWC yet but, taking it from the coaches I've spoken with they're in a class by themselves. If they have a better defense than Reinhardt I'd be shocked, and impressed LOL.

Faulkner is always good because they draw from such a talent rich player pool. But, NAIA football in Kentucky has probably become much better than a lot of people realize, so the day of Faulkner just showing up and recording the win is pretty much over. I did not realize how many good, though no-name college level coaches there are out there to be had. I think the only thing separating Kentucky NAIA football from the best, is the team in question's journey to finding a suitable coach and freeing up enough money to pay him.

Since I ran my mouth before I checked, thought I'd better see who won between Reinhardt and LWC yesterday! It was Reinhardt 42-24. Reinhardt is a force.

New rankings should post later today. It will be interesting to see how far LWC drops.

And to second TRTs above points NAIA schools in the state of Kentucky have done a very good job retaining good athletes whether Cumberlands, Georgetown, LWC ( add Campbellsville to the mix this year as well )....their success seems to be cyclic at this time.

I've seen LWC coaches at Div1 combines in Cincinnati where they are having success against G-town building inroads in NKY & SW Ohio. Going to be a fun battle to watch how the remaining Mid-South games play out with G-town and Cumberlands undefeated in conference play in the East and Reinhardt and Campbellsville in the West division.

The Mid South plays some very good football. The first game I ever saw was Campbellsville vs UVA- Wise back in 2011 and I don't mind admitting that I walked out a little wide-eyed from Finley Stadium. I had no idea NAIA football was that good or that the players would have been so talented. I will continue to be a fan unless the cyclic ebb and flow you spoke of (assuming you were speaking in terms of a conference wide cycle) results in a serious drop off.

I agree with your assessment of conference standings completely. The schools associated with this discussion must have undergone an attitude adjustment at some point in the recent past as to the benefits which are extended to schools with successful football programs. They've all spent the money to upgrade their facilities, but there are a couple schools in the conference who still seem to be reluctant to retain adequate coaching owing to finances. All I can say is to repeat the old adage, "you got to spend money to make money."

I was at the LWC/Reinhardt game and I will tell you that the better team did win. However I only think that they are maybe a 7-10 pt. better team. It was literally 14-0 4 and a half minutes into the game. I was more impressed with Reinhardts Offense than their Defense and their Defense was very good. That offense is a machine when it gets rolling. Lindsey spotted them 14 before a couple of adjustments slowed that train down a little. Also LWC was in the red zone on two different occasions that yielded no points. Reinhardt deserves some of the credit for that obviously but some of the credit goes elsewhere. Talking to players after the game they were impressed and respectful of Reinhardt but not afraid. I think they would like to play them again. BIG game this week against Campbellsville. A playoff berth may actually ride on this game for both teams. No time to lick their wounds.

Also as a side note. If you are a praying person please say a prayer for Reinhardt Olineman #75. His leg from the knee down was pointing in a direction it ought not point. Carted off. Young man could use a couple prayers.

LWC fell to #8 btw. I think Reinhardt went to #5

Cumberlands and Campbellsville are going to need to win out and have some teams in front of them lose in the last 2 weeks if they hope to make the playoffs. Rhymer has done a good job getting the ship righted at UC. LWC will make a run in the playoffs as will Reinhardt, both are very good football teams.

Wont happen IMHO.

With few exception Gtown has just owned UC. No if and or butts about it.
Is it next year Gtown moves up?

Agree with the bolded and I didn't know they were moving up, are they going to D2?
#26
^
From what ive heard, they are going D2.
#27
It's my understanding that if you win your conference (and somehow NAIA treats mid south as two different conferences) and you are ranked in the top 20 that you get an automatic bid. If Cumberland had beaten GU they would have won the east and were already ranked #20. So it's my understanding they were in. Since GU won and are not ranked in top 20 I doubt they get in given their record and the fact LWC would prob get the third bid for the MSC. LWC college is ranked #14 and still may not get an at large so I don't see how GU gets in. But the NAIA can be a little confusing this time of year so who knows.
#28
^
I know the UC radio guys said all UC had to do was win and they were a lock but if Gtown won or lost, it would take a miracle for them to get in and wasn't going to happen.
#29
Yeah if they had beaten GU they way I understand it would have been automatic bid. Just don't see how any team from the east gets in now but I've been wrong before.
