Boyle Co makes a lot of teams look bad defensively.. We are not great defensively but have a great defensive coach in Coach Mills...

You make it up as you go along. They better get more than a defensive coach. maybe they will get Wayne Mills.

PCC only scored 6 on Letcher, can't see them scoring much more in this one. WC 28 PCC 12

former Whitley County running back Zach Mills leads the state of Indiana in rushing, and ranks 5th in the nation . The Colonels sure could use him Smile

^
To be in the program he is in, Hickey is doing well in Georgia too.

Say what you want and what you will, with those two in the backfield, this Whitley team is completely different.

HCS Wrote:When was it competitive? Thinking back, 2009 is the only year I recall since HCHS has been open.

2008 was all Whitley. Even though you weren't yet playing up.

2009 was very competitive. You barely beat a NL team that didn't make the playoffs, and beat a PCC team by 1. You did beat LCC by 5, but got killed by Whitley again. Still to this day believe Whitley should have been playing Highlands in the state semis again that year but off the field bull *#$# screwed them and they have still yet to recover.

2010
Everybody in the district sucked except Whitley and HC and HC won by two scores at home in a very close game.

2011
Was all HC, and you kind of blew it on that one. The set up was perfect for you. You still gave up some points to district competition but nobody could stop HC's run game.

2012
Was once again your year and probably the best and maybe the best for a long time that HC had. Blew everyone out and ill give you that one. Was a few snaps away from playing in a state title.

2013
District sucked once again and you plowed through it. No excuses here. HC benefited from a horrible district and it ended up showing out against MS.

2014
Worst year HC has had. One point away from finishing last in district and winning only one game. The complete melt down.

2015
Middle of the road. Playoffs for sure, but nothing special.

So REALLY, the only years it wasn't competitive was 2012 and 2013. I think you had to work for it in 2011 even though HC won handily in most of the games. Larkey was in the middle of building that really good team.
A lot of teams have pulled off a three year stretch of winning. Now that the new car smell of consolidation has worn off welcome to normal :welcome:

How had HC done in frosh and JV ball this year?

Like I've said before, consolidation doesn't mean automatic success. Mercer had one great year after consolidation. Who else in eastern Kentucky had the kind of success that HCHS did after merger?
The majority of teams aren't very strong after merger - Letcher, Shelby Valley, East Ridge, Pike Central, South Floyd...

HCHS didn't lose a district game in three years, so it wasn't very competitive after 2009. I agree that was a very competitive year. This year appears to be pretty competitive, but North looks like the best team by far.

Harlan County is below average in JV this year. They are starting seven or eight sophomores, so the sophomore class is good but the JV isn't that great without them playing. Harlan County has a real small senior class this year, so they should be better next year and potentially really good in 2017.
Their eighth grade class is stronger and 7th is stronger. New Harlan (one of 3 middle school teams) has won 7 straight since losing the opener to Whitley at Whitley.

Oh I agree consolidation doesn't guarantee success. In fact, it usually doesn't, as putting two crap teams together just gives you a bigger pile of crap in a bigger class.

However, I do think it was responsible for HC's success.
Harlan County had three high schools with a lot of tradition and seasoned football players that came together and made it work. Most schools that consolidate doesn't have that.

Now that you have been consolidated for an entire class to come threw and leave, you all have a lot of kids that aren't playing that other wise might be if they were still three separate teams. You may have a couple of kids in the hallway that are late bloomers that don't play football that may have been studs for those individual schools.

I don't think its North is that good as much as it is the other schools just being so down right now. I think HC almost beat Corbin in JV ball there a couple of weeks ago. If he is able to recruit those hallways and get good numbers, HC should be completely fine. Also, North should dominate everyone. They have 6A numbers but are able to stay in 5A because of other teams playing up that shouldn't be. There are almost 2000 kids in that school now which is much more than any of the other 4 in this district. Perry has 4A numbers but plays up, and I want to say Letcher is really close. Whitley and HC have pretty close to the same amount.

Whitley has had a ridiculous amount of success at the middle school level over the past 20 years but it had never made it to the high school field like Pulaski was able to finally do. I think HC will fall in line about like Whitley. A couple of decent years followed bad a few bad ones in a never ending cycle that's hard to break.

I think the WC/HC game will be another good one this year. HC now leads the all time series 5-3. Should be a fun one. I wish there was a live stream somewhere.

Don't get on here and spew lies and mislead people with your obvious hatred of North Laurel with false information.
I've read where you post this garbage about once a year with North and their numbers in enrollment. True they are second or third in top enrollment in 5A PRIOR to other school electing to play or getting put down. KHSAA isn't playing North down, North doesn't have close to 2,000 kids either.
Beginning of this year NL had 1,321 students total call and confirm Mr. Think You Know It All...
You make this board miserable for the common fan because of your biasedness toward teams or fan bases.
Troll elsewhere, no one cares about your lies.
It's pretty bad when you want to constantly degrade a school that was lucky to win 1-2 games a year about 7-8 years ago, now that the Administration is on board with new coach everything has been on the up and up and surrounding schools can't handle a little shared success.
#60
I dont know how many students they have or how many it takes to be 6A. They might not quite have 2,000 but I would bet North Laurel has more than 1,321 students and has at least 300 more than Whitley County does. South Laurel is slightly lower than North in enrollment I can definitely see them getting a new school in the not so distant future.
