Ashland 26 - Boyd Co 6
#1
Final.

Ashland moves to 6-0 / 2-0 District. (@ East Carter next)
Boyd now at 2-4 / 0-2 District. (@ Rowan next)
#2
Congrats Tomcats

Don't read too much into the score. It was an absolute awful mess as far as rain/mud/wind goes. Boyd played with a lot of heart but I firmly believe if the conditions had been merely bad it would've been twice the margin.

Baker had the quietest 218 yard game I've ever seen. Thought Dicky had lost his mind first time he said Q was over 200.

Yeah Boy. Dickie lost his mind huh???.......And you think he ever had one to find?

BTW, Didn't Boyd have to play on the same muddy mess?

Sure is an impressive win against a team that the Ashland morons say needs overhauled...But isn't it typical Ashland arrogance to talk about someone else's program when their own baseball and basketball programs are now laughing stocks?
#6
Not a good game for Ashland. Maybe it was the mud, wind, and rain. They better start getting it together before Bob Seger's Golden Eagles come to town in 2 weeks.

As long as you don't think I'm the arrogant one. We'll see how Ashland football does A.Q., but I'll just enjoy this season in the meantime.

Ashland baseball had one down year and fired a 400-win coach only a couple years removed from back-to-back region titles. Still don't understand that.

Ashland basketball last season I have no explanation for, but even following last year's flameout I wouldn't look for any 20 game losing streaks in the near future.

I saw a sloppy 6-6 tie with multiple fumbles plus turnovers both ways the first quarter and a half. Conditions gradually improved the rest of the way, and Ashland outscored the Lions 20-0.

Could've been more on another day and if the slop had continued who knows what would've transpired. Hopefully some lessons are learned by the Tomcats.

lot of history between the two. throw out the the stats and records. like ohio state and michigan.

Baker still having numbers like this tells me that Ashland needs a more diverse offense and he can't do it all by himself.

IIRC Roberts had maybe 140 with 2 TDs. I totally agree, but for better or worse I don't think we'll see many wrinkles shown off before the JC game.
#13
Ashland will need to bring more than a few wrinkles to its game with JC to avoid another lopsided loss or two. Baker cannot beat Johnson Central by himself and it is hard to imagine Ashland passing more effectively against the Golden Eagles than Lexington Catholic did.
#14
Like most of us posting here, I can't help but look forward to the JC game. That's a luxury we have as fans. Let's hope the Tomcats don't shift focus away from the next challenge in East Carter.

Regardless of field conditions, weather, etc...it was good to see Ashland take control of the game in the second half and pull away.
#15
The only challenge against East Carter is making sure you don't sustain any injuries. I'm hoping both JC and Ashland come into the game healthy and ready to do battle in 3 weeks.
#16
Although the field conditions were awful last night I still feel the Tomcats played uninspired football. I know they're young kids but how can you not get up for your biggest rivals? Very disappointed with our effort last night.

Do Ashland's players still consider Boyd Co. to be a BIG rival? The current players were in the 1st or 2nd grade the last time this rivalry had any sizzle to it.
#18
It's good to get the win, think Boyd did a better job hanging on to the ball. Ashland had 3 fumbles going into this game. They fumbled 3 times in their first 4 possessions and had 10 in the game. Think they lost a little focus. It's a rivalry for Boyd just not sure how much it is for the Cats.
#19
I don't see this as a rivalry anymore, it's dead. Those of us 20+ years removed from high school still may see it as a rivalry. But how can those in school today see it that way. Ashland had only lost to Boyd County twice in their lifetime and that was long before they got to high school. I just look forward to watching local teams playing a good clean contest anymore. Just my personal opinion, but I'm sure I'm not alone. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

I would say that it's been so long since ASHland has beaten jC that these kids feel the same way, wouldn't you imagine TC? What rivaly, is probably what they say all the time. I would say they were in 1st or 2nd grade the last time that happened too. Whatcha think?

If this is true and JC says "what rival" then why has there been someone from JC staff at every Ashland game? Seems like a lot of scouting for a team there is no concern about.
