Cabell Midland, WV 49 Belfry 7

AtlPirateFan Wrote:What exactly does that have to do with anything?

It must kill you JC fans to know that it's a Belfry Pirate that gives you success. That every Friday night a man forged in the fires of Death Valley, that stood on the sidelines of Vipperman stadium leads your precious Eagles onto the field and without that Belfry Pirate blood that runs deep (maybe secretly these days) in his veins you would still be the 2nd best team in your county and mediocrity would still be the order of the day.

So, I think the words you are looking for is "Thank you Belfry for our football savior"
My only regret is that Matney did not arrive at Johnson Central a few years earlier. I don't know why it is so hard for some Belfry fans to accept the fact that thanks to a Belfry alumnus, the Pirates have assumed the role of the second best team in the Mountains recently. The score of last season's game was 35-0. If both teams had been at full strength, maybe the score would have been 21-0 or 28-0, but either way it would have been a Belfry loss.

We had Roddy before Haywood but yes I do thank PBurg and and I root for PBurg unless they play Belfry. I also like to see JC do well because a Belfry Pirate is at the helm. Does it suck to loose to him? Yes every loss does and while I may fain disdain for Matney or JC truth is he is a Pirate and him making JC successful is good for mtn football as a whole and when it all is stripped away all that matters is that the young men on the field in eastern KY deserve the exposure that being successful brings them. I would love to see Pikeville, JC, Belfry and all the other mtn teams continue to play at high levels it only means good things for the boys who suit up every week.

Springer's Final Thought here: I respect Belfry's program and what they've done. I expect this year's game at CAM to be a great one. Cabell Midland is a big school with a good football team. Belfry laid a large egg this game. I don't think anyone will argue with that. The turnovers and tackling issues were very uncharacteristic of Belfry football. I personally think Belfry has the horses to run with Midland if they execute. Midland is a good team that Belfry made look much better than they are, helped with home-field advantage. Belfry can't play like that against JC or Boyle County and expect to win. I don't expect Belfry to look the same by the end of this month, but it's a little late in the season to still make some of those mistakes, which is worrisome. Losing this game is by no means shameful; the only thing that hurts is how it happened. When you've got a bunch of high school kids, a couple things go wrong early against a pretty good team, things can snowball in a hurry and soon you have an avalanche. I personally hope we get Belfry's A-game when we come to visit, and I hope it's good preparation for the playoffs for both.

LMAO....Exactly, these JC fans don't think about that I don't believe. I graduated with coach Matney, he was a good football player and wrestler and if I am not mistaken he still holds the BHS school record for most interceptions in a high school career. And I may be wrong, but I believe if coach Haywood ever retires, Coach Matney will come home to Belfry......ONCE A PIRATE...ALWAYS A PIRATE!!!!!!!Confusednicker:

The way Belfry played last night, I believe Belfry Middle School could have beaten them, they are definitely gonna have to get it together next week !

But you can't come close to CM. and last year you pretty much beat out JV. We has 7 starters out and lost out back up
Hey dumb ass there's a reason why Cabell Midland knew exactly what Belfry was going to do. They've ran the same old boring offense for years and their head coach coached at Lawrence County before leaving for Midland. Just face it your team ran into a much better team. You and your fan base have the craziest excuses when ever you're defeated. Just suck it up and take your defeat like a man. I've never seen a fan base with more excuses after a loss than Belfry's.

Wake up call for Belfry players, coaches, but mostly the fans.

Lot of work to do if Belfry wants to compete for a title this year. Time to get better.

Belfry had Coach Dick Roddy before Haywood, and had it not been for unfortunate circumstance that Coach Roddy contracted leukemia, Coach Haywood would probably never came to Belfry. And Coach Roddy probably would have been the one to win Belfry's first state championship. And we did not STEAL Haywood from P'Burg, obviously he wanted to come to Belfry. Us Pirate fans love and respect Coach Haywood...the winningest coach in KY high school football history, and most of those wins have came at BELFRY!!!! :notworthy

Well, I have never realized the intensity of the rivalry between Belfry & Johnson Central! I am seriously considering blowing off the Harlan Co/Bell Co game on Halloween weekend, to watch these two battle it out!!

The JC @ Ashland game on Oct. 23 should be a better game. Two undefeated teams playing for home field advantage in the playoffs.

It might be a boring offense but it is USUALLY an effective offense.........but it sure didn't work last night .

No joke. They got hammered like a 16 penny nail, and act like they gave it away because of turnovers. They where that much better. The Pirates couldn't handle the way the West Virginians layed the wood, and couldn't hold the ball. Maybe the Haka dance scared them. any way you look at it Cabell Midland was in a different league. Stick to 3a Kentucky ball. Johnson Central will dust Belfry by 30+. It wont be as bad when Boyle whips yall. Yall will keep it within 20.TongueirateSho

You tell em TCP!! Sometimes they act just like that bunch of excuse making cry babies that plays over on Elm St. Don't they? I remember a guy named NotsoBADCAT that would even call the KHSAA and complain about an opponent's music being too loud when his team got beat.He sure was a sore looser, wasn't he? Good thing ASHland does't have fans like that, isn't it?

No excuses here......Belfry plain old got their butts kicked last night. Turnovers or no turnovers , they still woulda got beat. Sounds like Midland has a pretty darn good team and it won't surprise me a bit if they go on to win the state in their class.

AtlPirateFan Wrote:If Belfry was in the same class as Highlands then both schools would have comparatable enrollment numbers. You give me Highlands with 3A numbers or Belfry with 4A numbers the past few years and I will give Belfry a chance. BHS is 2-1 against Highlands since 1979 and on that fateful night in 1989 when Highlands won against Belfry the Pirates were the better team. Before you start spouting about the last 7 years of Highlands dominance remember in your scenario Highlands either has fewer players or Belfry has more regardless you have to adjust for enrollment numbers if you are going to make a statement like that.

Just a reminder to Belfry fans you guys have one of top coaches in KY f-ball history so
remember he scheduled this game for a reason & sure he is thinking of Nov not Oct.

Look for Pirates to be back in Bowling Green as usual-Dec

Why is it that certain people have to make the entire fan base look like a bunch of jackasses. I love the rivalry we have between Johnson Central and up till a few years ago we had their number for 27 years? HOWEVER, recent years they have dominated us no doubt , and until we beat them again or keep it close for that matter you won't hear me talking out the side of my neck. I would put CM fairly high in KY but probably not top 5. Thankfully we won't play anyone of that caliber on the road to BG

Diogenes Wrote:Trust me, if Highlands and Covington Catholic had been in their class, Belfry wouldn't have gotten any further than JC did. Judging by what happened on the field between the two teams in the late season the last few years, if JC had been in Belfry's region, Belfry wouldn't have made quite so many trips to Bowling Green either. You can say "playoffs are everything" all you want, but when you get to play teams like Pike Central and Lawrence County in the second and third rounds instead of (often nationally-ranked) Highlands and Covington Catholic, you're not playing in the same kind of playoff. Nobody's being a "blow hard"; these are simply facts. Belfry took advantage of the opportunities the KHSAA gave them in the last alignment round, so all the credit for that and they did very well with it, but you can't deny that Highlands would've been the end of the road for any team in the state in 4A or 3A (and probably 5A too) for the last 7 years with Mueller running the show. Now we'll see what JC can do with the new one, and we'll see how Belfry does in the new and improved 3A. Will be interesting for both sides.
