I am a huge fan of preserving that which is no longer around. In the state of Ky we have seen many High Schools come and go over the years and slowly their existence on the football is eroding away. This thread is an effort to remember some of those teams. Please if you have any photos of schools/teams no longer with us please share here.

Feds Creek never had a football team,
Millard high school never had a football team,
Both are now part of East Ridge along with Elkorn City, Elkorn was the only one with football.

As former Hellier Hellcat I can tell you no football there.

Almost positive that Pine Knot never had a football team.

Wheelwright definitely had a team . I played against them when I played Football for Fairview. I have pictures somewhere my parents took when we played them at Wheelwright . My parents couldn't believe the football field wasn't completely flat where it sat on a hillside

Great info I got in a PM
Quote:The high schools that consolidated into what is now Pulaski Co and Southwestern were as follows:
Eubank
Woodstock
Science Hill
Shopville
Burnside
Ferguson
Nancy (which you asked about)
Pulaski
None of these schools fielded a Football Team. All of these schools consolidated into Pulaski County High in the early 80's. Somerset High fielded the only football team in the county up until the mid 80's when Pulaski started their program. In 93 Southwestern was built and started their football program. Southwestern is comprised of students that would have attended Burnside, Ferguson, and Nancy. - See more at: http://www.bluegrassrivals.com/forum/pri...oktmc.dpuf

I will ask my wife if Blaine had a team. She went to elementary school there, and her family goes a long way back in that area.

These schools consolidated in Laurel County in 1970.
Lily, Bush, Hazel Grenn, and London, I guess you could add Laurel County to this list as well cause it split to form North & South Laurel.

Mullins did field a team until about 1985ish. Not enough kids went out to field a team until the Pike Central consolidation.

Don't forget McKell High School in South Shore, Ky., and their bruiser of a back Don Gullett who went on to pitch for the Reds.
Irvine High School in Estill Co. also played FB. I used to have some pix but that was 20-30 years ago.

Wheelwright, wa ranked #1 in 1a at one time. Played the #1 team in #1a in W. Va. Named Crum, watched the game, took a bad whipping.

To the best of my feeble memory of Letcher High, they never fielded a football team. Only played winter and spring sports, Basketball and baseball.

Catlettsburg had a team until they Consolidated into Boyd Co. . South Shore was actually Mckell, which is where Don Gullett attended school, until 1973. From what I heard growing up, Mckell usually had a really good football program. Wurtland also had football from 1936-1973.
Greenup High had football until 1936 and had one more season in 1952. Greenup, Wurtland, and Mckell all consolidated to form Greenup Co.
