too much Baker the touchdown maker. Russell off their game a little tonight. Ashland too quick too strong Russell poor tackling
#33
Ashland D very good. Ashland OL DL manhandled the Devils. Baker is the best back in the state. Good win, the evils won't lose many more. GW the team Ashland beat last week won 87-8 last night. Let's get ready for Ironton.

Can't catch Baker
#35
I will say this for he Tomkittens. Their offense has gotten much more diverse since last year and even since week one. Russell outside of the one long run did a decent job on Baker. But the attention Bakerdraws opens up the play action and the bootlegs. That offense didn't go without him.

D line did not get manhandled. Baker was held to 100 yards below his average, and out of his 146 yards about 70 came on one play. The QB breaking containment hurt more than anything on defense. Not much was gained between the tackles. McKee not playing hurt a lot on offense. Not saying the outcome would have been different, but he would have keep the offense on the field longer I believe. But overall just too many mistakes by the Devils. Its one game, it happens. They will move on and get better.

Don't know what game you were watching but Ashland o-line and d-line dominated.
#38
Russell o line very weak and linebackers needs a lot of work

Ashland to fast for Russell overall team speed
#40
A game where Ashland as a team only had 30 more total yards than what Baker himself averages. Outside of Bakers one long run and the QB breaking containment on two or three runs, Ashland onyl had about 100 yards rushing. I wouldn't call that dominating.
#41
Groundskeeper at Russell just called the coach and told him to open the gate so Baker could leave. Said nobody had tackled him yet.
#42
Overall Russell does not have the athletes to run this offensive scheme. If you cannot pass the ball then the spread will not work at all. Russell cannot keep the defense honest so everyone just plays cover 0 and stacks the box. I have said it a 1,000 times no tight ends = no consistent running attack. One day Maynard might realize that if you ran the wing T they would move the ball on a regular basis. The Devils right now have no offensive identity and due to this they will never beat a Belfry in the playoffs or an Ashland team. These kids are in good shape but the play calling is terrible, Devils need new scheme and play caller or it will be an early exit in the playoffs for the Devils.
Kudos to Ashland and good luck in the rest of your season most physical Ashland team I've seen in 10 years since the days of Ian Holbrook and company.

Baker-1 carry 67 yds 16 carries-79 yds

The coaching staff constantly is yelling and berating these kids on the sidelines for every little mistake. When you are getting beat by 5 touchdowns and the scheme is consistently failing at some point the coaches have to step up and be adults and take responsibility for the lack of success. Not to mention how unprofessional and the poor representation it gives to the school. Ivan MCGLONE never behaved like that and was always the first to accept responsibilty when things went wrong.

95 yards to the house kickoff return!

Ashland coaches are little better then people give them credit for. Definitely a great change from last year. Agree on Russell's scheme on Offense. Need to adjust to personal. Ashland D held Conley to 57 yards on 22 carries. Russell only had 140 or so yards in the game. That's pretty dominate. Baker with only 17 carries.

I agree that Russells offense was shut down. It has been all year. They have to find a way to move the ball and score.

Not taking anything away from that. Great run by a very fast player.

What little success they had last night think was out of the pistol. The spread and not being able to throw is a disaster. After 3 games and little to no offense you would think they would change to something that suits their personal.

Guarantee that's not done to belittle the players. It's an attention getter, a motivation tool. TJ coached both of my son's at Raceland and he nor any a of his coaches never done anything that hurt the players feelings at all. If you can't handle a little yelling and criticism, a football field is not the place to be. And I guarantee you at the end of the game, TJ will accept full responsibility for the loss and won't blame it on Coach----- for his actions or little Johnny that didn't make the tackle or little Jimmy that didn't block correctly.
Russell has a great coach and are lucky to have him. Don't think the Devils would have a 2014 Regional Championship Trophy without him. Not knocking Mr. McGlone at all, but your administration decided it was a time for a change and Russell ended up with the best possible replacement they ever could have.
TJ is a stand up coach and will take full responsibility for anything that some people would perceive as being negative, whether it be on the field or sidelines.

Pulling kids off the field , meeting them on the way off and yelling without instruction is not coaching. In last nights game it was player after player taken out for the same treatment. At some point the Head coach needs to look at himself. It's not like the asistants followup this treatment with coaching. They are intimated as well.
This coach and staff need to clue in that you cannot run a spread offense if you cannot spread the ball around the field. Adapt your schemes to enable success , that is coaching.

Get another one, he won't have any trouble finding a job. Don't really know that he was looking too hard when he ended up with that one.

The running clock for most of the second half might have had something to do with holding their offensive numbers in check.

Goodness. A coach yelled at a player. I'm stunned. I have never heard of such outrageous acts before.

Congrats Ashland.

samson81 Wrote:I desperately need a silver lining to this game. The young Devils looked good once they got in the game. Austin Braden ripped the ball right out of the hands of the Tomcat fullback and sprinted 70 yards for a TD. Russell's youngsters also looked good, running and throwing, on the last drive of the game. I really like the look of Ryan Stump and Jaeden Layne. It would be nice to see them incorporated into the offense a little more on Friday nights.

The Braden kid showed some speed.Move him to fullback, Brewer to tight end and lets move the ball down the field.

Agree on silver lining , lot of football left to play.
This team has alot of players.
They are in good conditioned and disciplined.
Just need to find themselves some bread and butter ...

Look, no one can argue Bakers talent level. We all know hes the best back in the state. My only point was on 16 carries you would think he would have more than 76 yards if Russells line was being dominated like t-cat was saying. If I were to ask anyone who has seen Baker play and ask how many yards he would have on 17 carries behind a line that would be dominating I bet most would say far more than 146 esp if he had 70 on one of those carries. Put Baker on Raceland or Russell and the scores are reversed.
