I took a couple of things away from this. Boyd has improved somewhat. and the dawgs have a lot to work on. the defense for the dawgs has a long way to go. offense not very smooth but able to put up points. a win is a win. plenty of teachable moments in the film room.

That was my thoughts were. I didnt see the game, but with the depth LC supposedly has, a 25 man roster from BC shouldnt be able to put that many points up. Offensively, last year they lived and died by the big play. Seems like thats how things went tonight. If Lawrence wants to beat Belfrey, they better find a way to get some consistency on offense. Can any one say if they stuck with a set package or did things bounce around alot? Ie: Jumbo/Vear one series, spread the next, then the triple O. Seems like they did that alot last year, never found a definite identity.

Lots of work for LC to do on both sides...Austin Ross had a great game though👍😁

I was glad to see Boyd Co, play with the heart they played with. They do seem to be improved. I know there has to be a ton of athletes walking the halls of a school that size, that could really help there program grow. LC played well, and there offense will jell as the year progresses. There Defense is going to be there Achilles heel this year. I saw a very small defensive package on the field most of the night. There D line needs some beef upfront. If that's what they go with then they will have a very hard time stopping a good rushing team. (Belfry)

Well....gonna say my piece on this and will try to make it as polite as I possibly can. This will be another season of LC being loaded with size and talent and severely underachieve due to coaching. This game showed me that it will be a replica of last year with a severe beat.down by Belfry. Every person that goes to these games can see the issues. Every single person see's the problems except the coaching. It frustrates me to no end when you watch your team's defense get the ball rammed down their throats all game long because your defensive line looks to maybe average 160-180 lbs. You have over a dozen or so massive kids on the sideline that could easily plug those gaps but instead they put kids in the trenches that should be defensive backs or wr's. Our d-line got blown off the ball most of the game and got dragged for 5 yards when they did make contact with BC runners. LC won this game because of the speed on offense and no other reason. I mean no offense to BC or the LC players that were on the d-line in this game because I know they did their best. I don't know which is more ridiculous to me, the fact that we started kids that small in the trenches when that should be our strongest and deepest positions this year or the fact that even after Boyd county pounded it down LC's throat the coaches refused to put anyone else in. It was 4 quarters of this miserable bs. They did put some of the bigs in on goal line after BC ran over the defense all the way down to the goal line. Little late for that when they have 1st and goal on the 1 to worry about it now. Even being up by 20 or so points with a minute or so left and you still refuse to get some different people in the game. Im sorry for the hostility in this post but I will not defend this staff anymore and more than likely I am done coming out and watching this pitiful bs. They always find a way to make everybody they play look good.

Exactly what you said and that beef you were talking about will be standing on the sideline watching. One thing you can always count on is that LC will always come up with a game plan that will allow opponents to stay in the game.

I will say one thing and I've said it before. I don't understand why a coach would keep his future kids on the sideline and play the varsity when a game is out of reach. I could see if it was the last game of the season letting the seniors play but not in the season opener. This game was 42-14 and LC coaching staff started playing the JV and Boyd had every starter in. As for the game very, very sloppy. This season is starting just like last season. The offense will be fine but the defensive problems continue. Way to many athletes on this defense to be playing like this IMO. At some point this program needs to find some defense and it's not the kids fault! I will post more about the game when I get a chance, had to go strait to work after the game lol!

Seems like there is alot of great individual atheletes on LCs roster, again. I just csnt get why they csnt ever seem to mesh about it. I dont wanna kick a dead horse, bc much like many of us Raceland fans, a win isnt enough for those who lie in the dogpound lol. You want to see stability, purpose, and identity within your team. Sounds like more of the same this year.

I can understand in games like this where you really shouldn't be challenged to try some different things like running a smaller D package ect but when it is painfully clear that it doesn't work and a team that you should beat by 50 is taking your ass to the woodshed then you need to go a different route. If BC had enough to make some stops on defense then this game may have ended up as a loss. Not to diss BC at all but this game should have been done at halftime with the jv playing the 2nd half. This is probably the weakest opponent LC has this year and Boyd County's o-line wore their asses out. What do ya'll think is gonna happen when an opponent isn't almost all freshman and actually brings a defense? I think most coaches in this area could take LC's bench players that never see the field and make a few great teams out of it. :HitWall:

Honestly Scotty, with the players that LC has had these last few years a chimpanzee could coach them to a winning record. LC wins on pure talent alone until they play a team that equals them in talent. When was the last time LC won a big time game where they wasn't favored by a ton? A winning record isn't enough and it never should be enough when the numbers and talent is there for so much more. I have never been one of these "homer" fans that think my team alone is the greatest but even people outside of LC can plainly see the mediocre bs. Frustrates me to no end.

Seeing the score and hearing the chit chat, sounds like BC did just sbout all they wanted to do on the line. This tells me that LCs game with Raceland will be a rough one for them, then Belfry even longer. Who knows, maybe they were indeed trying new things. Bc LCs line was big last year, atleast in their game w Raceland last year, they were just slow. I just really dont know whats going on in Louisa, smh. They win ball games, but its hard to believe they can beat any really good teams. Seems like since LC beat Raceland AT Ram Stadium a few years back, and both teams went in different directions, that LC has struggled to beat quality teams.

That is the thing, we have some huge lineman but they are all on the offensive line. Our offensive line is even bigger this year then last. I think the Oline has an average of about 6ft2 270 or 280 with a few guys even bigger then that. I think one of the problems is coach wants as many people going one way as he can but we don't have 70 or 80 man rosters to do that like some teams do. If this 2015 team is going to have a good year they are going to have to play more people both ways like it or not.

I don't know if this defensive scheme is the one LC is sticking with or just an experiment but the biggest players we had on D was our safeties it seemed. They brought in some of the bigger players for a play or 2 when BC got it down to the goal line a few times but the majority of the time we had kids on the d-line that looked between 160-180 at best with the sideline full of 230-300lbs kids standing around holding their helmets and watching the defense get ran over. One play the qb for BC had 3 guys hanging on him and he turned and casually pitched the ball out to a rb that was standing nearby because the defenders could not get him on the ground. It was quite sad. I honestly hope this was just a case of experimenting with pass defensive packages and to get looks at different things because if they legitimately done this to game plan for BC then they failed miserably. All in all, this was a win but in some ways it really wasn't. Some may disagree I guess.

i was at the game tonight, i'm not ready to panic yet, but this team acted like boyd co was a scrimmage game. not to disrespect any of the players, lc has so much talent but just bad coaching. I like cecil but his defense couldn't stop a paper bag. never has and never will.
08-22-2015, 07:36 AM
boyd county qb kept boyd alive all night long. he is the boyd co offense
08-22-2015, 08:04 AM
Ok here is my take on the game. Boyd county has a good little team and they are way better then last year so I don't want to take anything away from them. Our Oline was dominant but very sloppy. I will chalk some of that up to it being the first game. Our whole offense was a little jittery the first half of this game but they started to settle down in the 2nd half. We had a very good O lineman on the sideline who I hope will be back next week. The QB was throwing pretty wild the first half but he also settled down as the game went. This offense is loaded with speed and talent and they will just get better and better. Now for the defense................I have said again and again that I am a defensive guy and this stuff is driving me crazy. We have the size, speed and ability to have a very good defense. Just like last season we have people everywhere sitting back and waiting for the ball to come to them instead of going to the ball and attacking. If they would just be a little more aggressive and go to the ball and get the angle that would make a world of difference. I agree that the defensive line they put on the field last night will not work. Way too small and if the defensive line is collapsing then that makes the linebackers job harder and then that makes the defensive backfields job harder. I disagree about what some think about the linebackers. We have some good linebackers on this team but they can't do anything if the Dline is setting em up for failure. They will have no choice but to play some of the big guys both ways. If they bulk up that defensive line with a few people like say #77 and #56 and #61 then I think you would see a world of difference in this defense and then the linebackers and defensive backs can do what they do. For all I know coach knew Boyd was outmatched so maybe he was just trying a few things, but if that was what he was doing then I think he got his answer lol. This team is going to get better and better every game, but if the defensive shenanigans that have gone on the last few seasons continue then forget about Belfry because offenses like Fairview, Greenup County, and Raceland will eat us alive before we ever see Belfry. I don't understand how coach Cecil ain't going crazy with the fact that he is also a defensive guy. I don't even know who the defensive coordinator is on this team or who calls the defensive plays. I have asked this question the last three years and no one seems to know.......It's a mystery lol. After the last few years of defensive failure while the offense excels I wouldn't want anyone to know my identity either. I look for this offense to explode in the games to come but if some changes aren't made on defense then it wont matter when it matters. This is all my opinion and you can take it with a grain of salt but that's the way I see it.

In the pound Wrote:boyd county qb kept boyd alive all night long. he is the boyd co offense
This is very true, but the problem with that is the fact that they got game film of Boyd and they all watched it.........I hope lol. I watched it and in that scrimmage game the QB was the whole offense. I would say he ran the ball about 85% of the snaps. Then the game starts last night and I think the QB ran the very first play and the coaches looked shocked and scratching their heads. They knew what Boyd has and does yet they had no plan to stop it. Granted the kid is a pretty good athlete and has decent speed but he ain't no game changer kind of player. If your whole defense is falling apart because of one kid who is maybe a little above average running behind a mediocre at best line with no receivers then that speaks volumes. That says that you have a serious problem and not on the field but on the sideline. I don't care what you say, but with the size, speed and athletic ability we have on this team there is no excuse for poor defense other then poor coaching. I'm not even calling out coach Cecil on this because I don't know who controls the defense during the games or who does the bulk of the work with the defense during the year but it ultimately all comes back to him because he is the one who is supposed to be in control of this team. I know that the other coaches are probably his friends but at some point he needs to tell some people to step it up or we are going to find someone who will. I wish he would try to find a good D coordinator like coach Williams did with coach Ratliff God rest both of them.

Some people don't like some things I have to say from time to time, but I love Lawrence County football. I post on here more then any other LC person on BGR. I follow this team every year good or bad. I go to every game I can and have for about 21 years and I try to have an open mind but enough is enough. Not one person on here can look me in the eye and say that something ain't wrong with the defensive coaching of this team. And if someone has a good excuse or reason why we continue to struggle on the defensive side then I would love to hear it, but if you come at me with the "we just don't have the athletes" then save it because I'm not buying.

A light bulb just came on over my head with this one little comment of mine and this has me thinking! Thinking about where the coaching talent in this program really lies and the direction this program needs to go at some point in the future. I think he is still a little young but maybe that is the breath of fresh air this program is screaming for.

I would like to see how things would go if they would put some big 300 pounders in at DT to soak up some dbl teams and push the pile back in the qb's lap and let our linebackers have some free roam instead of trying to pick their way thru the traffic trying to get to the rb's. We have some good LB's in my opinion but there is a limit on how fast they can flow to the ball when they have offensive lineman to get around and their own lineman getting shoved backward in their laps. Go big in the A-gaps and use some speed rushers outside if ya want, just get some more size in the middle of that line. They have a herd of elephants over on the sideline.......use em.

I guess LC should have pitched a shutout, and should do so each game. I mean giving up 2 offensive TD's in 4 quarters of a varsity game, oh my! How horrible is that!!!!!! :lame:
Perhaps there are problems on the football team, or staff, or.....perhaps....a big problem lies in the STANDS?!?!?!?! I hear it every game while sitting in the bleachers....."coach should be doing this....coach should be doing that.....we need a real coach....." Hey, it's probably from you! I don't know who you are, but perhaps so.
Perhaps you should apply for the job? And employ Off-the-Chain as your defensive coordinator? nicker: Neither of you are ever happy with anything. You predicted a beatdown last year against Belfry in the regular season, and this team rose up to the occasion and had them on the ropes. You predict nothing but negatives once the year starts. Before the season, you are real jolly and full up compliments. So, perhaps, your expectations are the problem?
Now, I've had my rant. Either go and support the program or stay the **** home! :moon: This isn't college. These guys are getting paid $100's of thousands of dollars to spend time away from their families. They are doing it for the love of the game and love for their players.
