New year, different teams. Until you see how a team is actually going to play when the score counts, you never know. Everybody counting Prestonsburg out in this one better be careful. It's on their home field and they have lost the last two in this series after having leads in both games. They will be ready to play. Pikeville does have a lot of Juniors and Seniors, but some new guys in key places. We'll have to see how they respond under the lights. Also, Frasure ran for over 100 on Pikeville last year. The defense has to show they have stiffened up from last year. I think this one is close until proven otherwise.

I think this will be the best game in EKY during week 0. Looking at the game blindly, I will guess Prestonsburg by 2+

Everybody getting all worked up about the Pburg and Letcher scrimmage. Last time I checked Letcher is a solid 5A school and Pburg is 2A. Therefore Letcher should beat Pburg and have much more depth. You can't take anything from that game. They would probably do the same thing to Pikeville if they played.

Pikeville and resting players in the second half

Pikeville and Letcher play in the Pike County Bowl. And I know one or two posters have brought up the scrimmage between Pburg and Letcher. I didn't, basing it on what I know returns on both sides. It will definitely be tough and I've said that several times. But I also think Pikeville has the edge, is all. Should be a dandy though.

TigerBlues Wrote:Pikeville and resting players in the second halfNo. Prestonsburg won't give up that easy not make it that easy. Even in their down years in the past, they've battled to the end usually. I don't think anyone really believes it will be that easy at all.

3 days away n counting

Just saw the Pikeville roster and saw that Brennan Goble is on the team. He was a very good player two years ago at P'burg and sat out last year. Also was told Jesse Sparks who moved in from Ashland (?) is a pure beast in the weight room and has a chance to be a great one.

I think Sparks is from Rowan County and also Tyler Collins a jr. OL/LB has moved in from Betsy Layne.

I heard that Goble was on the Panther roster but that he would miss the opener vs. Pburg.
I'll trust my source for now that he won't play but it wouldn't surprise me to see him on the field.

I apologize on the date. The game is the 21st Friday. That's what happens when I let my fingers do the talking. Sorry.....

Feeling good about Pikeville's team but the plane is still in the hangar undergoing repairs after that horrible crash last year so I am not making any predictions.

Two more days! The wait for high school football to kick off will be over.
no better way to start the season than the Pikeville vs Prestonsburg game! I can't hardly wait !!!!!

I see this game as a learning experience for my Blackcats. The team Pikeville returns along with the off season additions will expose our weaknesses early in the season. I do feel we will get better as the season goes along, but I don't feel this one will be close. I hope I'm wrong. I will gladly eat my crow.
Good luck to both on an injury free game.
Pikeville 35
Prestonsburg 13 (2 FG's by Green)

Pugh, Charles (both of them), Rhodes, Dials, Vanderbeck (been here since elementary school), Coleman, Lucas, etc all from Pikeville. Jarrell transferred, true. And so did Goble. Collins I believe is a returner, I think someone told me he went to school at Pikeville up til Junior high? Can anyone confirm for me? Most of out talent is homegrown and attended school here forever. I love how people always think one or two transfers always translates to "living on other schools talent to win". Keep right on reaching for the stars over there in Knott County. One of these days y'all will be relevant in football.

Truth is the truth. Never have won without players from their beginning program at a young age. Can't and never will win with players the bad from the beginning. It's more like "wow look who transferred in".
