Losing Caldwell is not a big blow to Raceland. Plenty of talent left for Rams.

Its not a major blow. But it does take away a player who was 100% ready to step in and take over the spot vacated by Messer at FS. Im curious as to who will fill the secondary spots. The corner and free safety positions are probably the hardest positions to play on HS football. Especially with the balance that alot of teams have in the run vs pass. Young and Dixon were great open field tacklers and really good pass defenders, Messers atheleticism allowed him to cover alot of ground to gaurd against the deep middle passes. I think those 3 will be missed more on the defensive side of the football than offensively. I think Carson Christian, John Cherry and Austin Howard will fill the holes at CB and SS. Im really curious to see who they put at FS now. Pass defense across the deep middle is my biggest concern. Seems if u have an accurate QB with even a little bit of an arm and a reciever who can get in a seem, its the hardest thing for a HS secondary to defend.

But, you are correct, he would have been a defensive starter and definitely a return guy. The spot he surrenders that hurts Raceland immediately is the holder on extra points. Jmo

Its goina be interesting to see who steps up.

Really surprised no one is mentioning Josh Clark. Very smart kid, very good hands and probably quickest player on team. He can also jump like a deer. Be real surprised if he doesn't see time in defensive backfield, especially with Caldwell leaving for Russell.

Josh has alot of potential. Kind of comes in under the radar. He did have 2 picks during mop up duty last season.
Here are some returning stats:
Our backfield returns over 2000 yds rushing and 27 tds
At WR/RB we return 740 yds and 5 TDs recieving
And an OL that didnt give up many sacks or tackles for loss.
Defensively will are fine upfront. Its goina boil down to the secondary and solidifying a QB spot.
In that regaurd with the backfield, OL, and front 7 we return, as long our secondary doesnt completely break and give up bombs and the QB makes good choices and the C to QB exchange is always nice and clean, we will be fine. Im interested to see if we adjust the play book a bit due to personel and go under center more.

With the schedule, i think we are looking at as good as a 9-1 or as "bad" as a 7-3 record. The only losses i see as likely is against Lucasville Valley. Ashland and Russell are toss up games, imo.
04-13-2015, 03:31 AM
The schedule, imo, could be a bit stronger. I would rather see us get rid of the East/West Carter games and replace them with someone like Rowan Co and either a Wheelersburg, OH, LCA, Hazard, or a top 5 AA or AAA school. But I know all the stars have to align. Beechwood wanted us to come up to their bowl game at the start of the year, but if I am not mistaken we would have had to lose the Ashland game, which is too good of a pay day for the school. Either way, with our district+Russell (2014 region champ)+Ashland (made an atleast respectable showing at Highlands)+Lucasville Valley, the only "weak" games are Sheldon Clark, West Carter, and East Carter. Lawrence County is another good rivalry game that provides fair gate sales for the schools. Alot more goes into scheduling than teams having open weeks that align.

Caldwell won't be a big loss , to tell you the truth I wouldn't have been surprised if he didn't play this year at raceland before he transferred , I do wish him the best and hope he does well at Russell . I do agree with Scotty that I would like to see Raceland stop scheduling east and west carter but I know they were having trouble finding games and you can't play really good teams every week but would like to see Little tougher than those two teams

Its still single A ball. So u have to be careful sometimes because losing a player or 2 can destroy a season. Ie: If Paintsville were to lose Kash, it would be pretty devestating. When you only field 40 kids each year, you probably only play 15-18 kids without much drop off in tallent. Then you look at a team like Beechwood or Mayfield (gone but not forgotten lol), who fields 80 kids, there is alot more room for error, so they can play a tougher non district schedule each season. But, their district schedule is weaker. It is what it is though and those "weaker" games just give coaches a chance to evaluate other kids or kids in different pisitions.
*disclaimer: "weak" is not meant to insult a program. Simply stating, I would prefer NO promised voctories on our schedule.

Mayfield has never had close to 80 to my knowledge. I just wanted to argue snotty blondewoman, so I can get to 1000 quicker.

Dillwilly u are correct. 80 was a slightly over the top number. BUT, both MF and BW (the two top dogs from the west in the previous alignment) listed around 60 players each accordig to KHSAA. While WB, Raceland, and Hazard in the east fielded 44-54 players. Raceland having the largest roster of the three. That extra 10-20 kids goes along way, more numbers to have a better shot of fielding better atheletes, more chances of 1 way players, more chances of fielding a deeper team at each position. So yea, 80 was high, but my point was still made. And i dont even know how many posts ive made...im onhere alot though lol

Rams are state runner's up's this year to Beechwood. Unless those seniors for the tigers decide to play baseball then raceland will win it.

I know a year makes a lot of difference in a team, Raceland looked small to me last year. So that tells me Raceland will be bigger this year for sure and the SHOCKING NEWS. I think Raceland has a shot going to Bowling Green this year. I want give up on Williamsburg until it's time. :worthy:

Scotty, assuming he plays, what kind of player are the Devils getting in Caldwell?
04-19-2015, 09:51 AM
Caldwell will have to be ruled eligible first, but he is a very smart football player. Very good vision when he is running with the ball, alao very hard to bring down (very ellusive) not blazing fast but fast enough to breakaway at times. Good leaper and a cery good pass defender.
04-19-2015, 02:45 PM
I expected him to be in the raceland qb race. He was a very good middle school qb.
04-19-2015, 11:57 PM
He could have seen time there, but i know they were looking at him as more of a utility man. Im not sure if he actually moved addresses though. If not, he will have to sit out his Jr season
04-20-2015, 04:59 AM
I would say his parents have a plan. I can only think of 1 kid in the last 10 years that actually sat out a season when transferring schools.

Hearing rumors that Sheldon Clark is trying to or already has bought out the contract to play Raceland the next two years , head it from someone who heard it from someone who heard it from someone else . Anyone know if this is true ?
04-28-2015, 06:54 PM
Sheldon Clark is out. Heard they were going to get the Greenbay Packers to make up for having East and West on the schedule.

Wouldnt suprise me. SC has been having some major issues within the program. Like to see Raceland reach out to a little more consistent and quality team for a game.
04-28-2015, 08:22 PM
If SC has bought out if I was Raceland I wouldn't worry about it because that would give them a week off during the season that they have no bye week.
04-28-2015, 09:29 PM
Personally, id like to see us pick up another game and a stronger one at that. Someone from NKY/Lex area would be a nice addition.

Anyone hear anything in regaurds to scheduling a 10th game? I know they want to play, and a few teams have the date open still. Hopefully they get all of this out of the way before the time school lets out for summer break.

Portsmouth West is confirmed. Idk the particulars on the SC deal. Just glad its over and done with.

I understand about not giving up many sacks Scotty_Bronson by looking at Raceland last 5 games. Why did Raceland stop passing the ball. :HitWall:
